  1. They are both boobs, but Matheny has made the playoffs in each of his 4 seasons and has won a pennant. Last year's team won 100 games despite injuries galore. This year despite an uneven start, they have scored the most runs in the NL (2nd most in baseball) and have the 3rd best run differential in the NL (4th best in baseball) and are 1 game out of the 2nd Wild Card spot. Even if his contribution to those teams is minimal or even negative, it would be really hard for the Cardinals to fire him this season with that track record. The White Sox on the other hand just got through a stretch where they finished over .500 9 of the previous 12 years when they hired Ventura. In his first year, the White Sox were in first place from May through late September when they collapsed with a 4-9 finish to miss out on the playoffs. Since then, his team has finished with 3 of the 4 worst records for the White Sox since 1990. This year after a hot start they've managed to completely collapse and go 6-20 to fall under .500 and several games out of a playoff spot. I mean based on track record alone, it has to be Ventura right?
  2. How many more times do we play the Reds this year? All it takes is one of their starters unable to throw the ball over the plate, a quick hook and then destroy the terrible pen.
  3. So is that 16 ER in his last 4.2 IP
  4. Nice start in a Sox uni for Shields. 32 pitches and 4 ER in the first inning
  5. Guys I'm fine really, I am probably enjoying the team more than both of you combined
  6. Because I recall events that happened 3 weeks ago? I mean if I said "here is a list of the only 3 things I remember about the current Cubs season" you might have something. Otherwise it just sounds like youre letting out repressed anger out randomly.
  7. Would you have preferred a list of favorite airlines to fly?
  8. In that you don't agree or that I made a list? The discussion was worst losses or something like that.
  9. The team that would currently be first in line to pass them into the playoffs would be the Dodgers, who would have to go 62-40 (99 win pace) to pass a 93-69 Cubs team outright, and that's if they don't pass the Giants first.
  10. I guessed it right
  11. How many Cubs shutouts have been ruined in the 9th inning? Seems like more than there should be.
  12. 6 straight batters have reached off richard over 3 appearances
  13. yes come on bryzzo, i hated seeing 0 cubs in that "MLB Home Run Leaders" graphic shown earlier
  14. No doubt. I no longer see Heyward come up and think "please keep your SLG above .300, pleeeeaaaase"
  15. It's more that he's having bad ABs up until the point that he gets a hit. Some bad swings early in counts. It seems like every at bat goes like this: 1st pitch down the middle, taken for a strike. 2nd pitch, swing wildly at something out of the zone. Then the at bat starts. Earlier this year it was: Take for a ball, check swing take at a pitch down and well off the plate, then swing as hard as possible no matter watch pitch comes next (usually offspeed)
  16. Cubs after losing last night and struggling in the early innings:
  17. Terrible swings aside, Javy is now worth exactly 1 win this year after that last AB
  18. Yay, quirky first hit but I'm sure he will take it!
  19. Dex has missed some good chances to drive runs home the last 2 games. To be fair he did succeed yesterday in getting the run home on the sac fly.
  20. I'm not glad Jorge is hurt, but with Javy hitting better I'm glad this won't potentially steal PT away from a slumping Addison.
  21. He's continuing to get results despite ABs that mostly look ugly. I will take it.
  22. Worst loss and the 2 runners up: 2nd runner up: May 11th vs. San Diego. Cubs had a 4-2 lead into the 7th, Cubs were cruising toward their 8th straight win. In the 7th, Hendricks gets the first 2 outs easily, then an innocent little bunt single sends Hendricks to the showers and then the Cubs implode giving up 4 runs and losing 7-4 1st runner up: May 3rd vs. Atlanta. Cubs are somehow stymied by the hapless Braves until the 8th when they score 2 runs to trail by 1. The Cubs come all the way back in the 9th off a Russell single, but then Rondon comes in and loses the game in the 10th. Winner: May 24th @ St. Louis. No need to elaborate on this one.
