  1. Kind of crazy..I don't know if it's because it's Halloween or because I've been watching the Bears and Bulls but for some reason today it felt like the baseball season is over. I have to keep reminding myself that I watched the Cubs win a World Series game less than 24 hours ago and will see them play again tomorrow. The season has changed, I'm making my thanksgiving plans for 4 weeks from now, and this just feels so unusual that we're still playing. I kind of like it.
  2. The only scary thing is holding base runners in a 1 run game. I don't worry about that in a start but when manufacturing runs is critical it can be a concern.
  3. Maddon says Contreras will start at C tomorrow and Lester will be available out of the pen.
  4. Seriously though, I really hope that if we were to lose its in Game 7 not Game 6. I want to feel that nervous energy all day knowing that my team can win a championship that evening. Plus I've never been able to watch a Cubs game on my birthday before. Just get it to game 7 please please please.
  5. How awesome would that be if the Cubs just dominated the last 2 games and made them relatively stress free? Everyone else that's not a Cub fan would hate it, but I'd like a 10-1 and 8-2 game 6 and 7 or something like what we did in Games 4 and 5 in LA.
  6. Would you say that the Indians are uniquely qualified to shut down the offense, given the reasons you mention above, the fact that the staff is mostly righty except one of the best 2-3 LHRPs in baseball and the fact that Francona is willing to give over 50% of his innings to elite pitchers who can execute? Or would you say that the Cubs that have been chasing are just in a typical slump as players seem to cycle through over the course of a season? Or just SSS? Or a combo?
  7. It's a good sentiment too. No one wants to celebrate wins in a series you lose, but its a good feeling to know that this is different than last year or 2003 or the NLDS 3 and outs. We didn't just roll over and die, we've fought back to at least play another day. And when this series is over, even if we somehow lose, I will be able to go back and watch WS highlights over the winter. Last year I don't think I ever went back and watched a single moment of the 2015 NLCS all over again. While it would be ultimately disappointing to lose, it leaves a better taste in your mouth than pretty much every other playoff season the Cubs have had in our lifetime. But screw that sentimental loser talk; we're winning this.
  8. I wonder if there is any research into how pitchers perform when going on 3 days rest of the second consecutive game. I can't even think of too many examples. I know Schilling did this in 2001 and was able to throw 7.1 IP, 2 ER on 103 pitches. And I know the Brewers rode Sabathia like a rented mule down the stretch in 2008 and he actually pitched really well through 3 consecutive starts on 3 days rest before falling apart in his playoff start, also on 3 days rest. But I would think that eventually the work load would catch up to a pitcher and every start on short rest multiples the chances that it happens.
  9. I believe that wind can effect batted balls there more than most parks (except Wrigley). I read that somewhere the other day.
  10. Even more: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-cubs-continuing-curveball-crisis/
  11. This 'Cubs can't hit breaking pitches' thing won't go away: http://deadspin.com/the-cubs-cant-touch-clevelands-breaking-stuff-1788401084
  12. Am I the only one that checked his girl for a baby bump?
  13. Also, I hope Ross plays in Game 6 or 7, but if this was his last appearance in the bigs - His last PA drove in the game winning run His last moment in the field was throwing out the tying run trying to steal 2B There are worse ways you can go out.
  14. That's actually kind of hilarious. Wish I should fully embrace him.
  15. I keep reading people saying that Joe stuck with Chapman because he's lost faith in Rondon and Strop. I get Rondon, but I don't see any reason why Maddon should have lost any faith in Strop. He's pitched well when he's been in, other than that garbage time inning against the Dodgers, although he's only pitched 5 innings in the entire playoffs. I think Joe stuck with Chapman because he's our best relief pitcher and he was going to ride or die with him in this game.
  16. I think I need to ramp back my sports intensity for awhile so I think its a good thing. The Bulls look like they might be at least interesting to watch this year, same with the Hawks, but I do not need to have that feverish daily obsession over a team like I have had with the Cubs over the last 7 months. Plus for me UM football is looking pretty damn good so I have that to get excited about provided they don't trip up before OSU
  17. Any truth to the rumor that Javy forgot his own name?
  18. Another thing about this win: Our long Kyle driven nightmare is over! The Cubs will not lose 3 straight games to be eliminated from the playoffs this year.
  19. http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2016/10/29/theo-epstein-not-finished-building-his-legacy/C9QexC8dCxUkneYpT4XveK/story.html Haha. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy that has any interest in being in politics. I could see him being a Fortune 500 CEO as some have suggested but not a politician.
  20. WS odds only went up to 24% after this according to fivethirtyeight. They have the Cubs as 52-48 favorites in Game 6 and 45-55 dogs in Game 7
  21. I wonder how the pitch count will effect chapman. 1 days rest after throwing 42 pitches all in high stress situation. That's like half a start, but some someone not stretched out for that many pitches fatigue probably has more of an affect on him after that outing
  22. I want the Cubs to grind out the AB's and force high pitch counts - just like they did all year. Make Tomlin work. They've been way too aggressive and a ton of strikeouts (13 tonight I think) The problem is that Tomlin is a strike thrower. He's not going to walk anyone so eventually we are going to have to hit him. I think Miller and Allen can go 4 innings or possibly more I game 6 if they have to. They will treat Tuesday like a game 7
  23. I mean you can see the path to victory. Tomlin shut us down but on short rest. Even if Jake isn't at his best I still feel pretty good about chances of winning that one. Then we get our 3rd look at Kluber, with his 3rd start in 9 days against a well rested ERA leader in Hendricks.
