  1. the cubs are good. they just aren't playing well. I fear this will be said a few months from now, too. They wouldn't be the first very talented team that underachieved greatly would they?
  2. Cubs have 4 runs on 9 hits through 23 innings this series
  3. Getting close to my annual Fire Mallee rant which causes the offense to wake up and do awesome again
  4. Yeesh. I know the opponents get a bit easier but after this series the Cubs play 17 of their next 20 on the road where they are 3-13 in their last 16 games. This following a stretch where they played 19 of 25 at home and are only 12-11 so far.
  5. Put Zobrist and Russell on the DL, move Happ to 2nd, start Jay or Almora everyday.
  6. Welp 4 runs and 8 hits the first 2 games of this series. What the horsefeathers guys.
  7. 12 free base runners given to the Cubs today (9 walks, 2 HBP, 1 catchers interference)
  8. I would estimate that Contreras catches only 63% of pitches thrown to him
  9. I think that was a home run. Nice break for the Cubs until this dude serves up another meatball in 2.3 seconds.
  10. Man this guy gives up majestic bombs. He fits right in with this squad.
  11. I don't have the sound on....is there any specific reason why he was bunting as the cleanup hitter with runners on 1st and 3rd and 0 outs? I'm really confused.
  12. I've already been there. Pretty sure this is a mediocre team that doesn't have good enough pitching and has an offense that has slumped too much. That said, the smart people on the board seem to think we will be fine, so that offers me hope. I don't know if there is any thing that smart people know other than "most of these players won a championship last year and are playing the worst division in baseball right now so are only 1 game out of 1st place." I would have expected the starting pitching to come around by now. I think last year at this time, every starter had an ERA in the 2's. This year if you combine Butler/Anderson everyone has an ERA over 4. Is that fatigue from extra innings? Is the regression that severe? I feel like every time I think one of them is coming around (Lester had his ERA around 3.10 after his CG, Hendricks had a run of solid starts, Lackey had the 8 IP game vs. the Cardinals, Arrieta has been pretty decent lately), they fall back down.
  13. It's pretty much mid-june...I'm not saying we are there yet, but at what point do we just say 'we are a mediocre team this year'? I'll give them until the deadline. .500 teams can still make a run in a crappy division with some deadline additions. I really dont see any of the other teams in this division getting more than 5-6 games above .500 at any point so we will always be in it if we tread water.
  14. He's thrown a max of 52 pitches in an outing this year and he's on 3 days rest, so it's tough to expect more today. It sounds like the plan is to basically do a piggyback with Frankoff so they're probably not anticipating needing a 3rd pitcher until the 7th/8th. Then why is Frankoff in now? And who in the horsefeathers is Frankoff No seriously who is this dude pitching on my defending world champion baseball team?
  15. feel like the Cubs have hit into 30 double plays this series already
  16. thats press conference worthy? attention whores.
  17. That first one to Rizzo was a pretty bad framing job but still should have been called a strike.
