Holy hell Schwarber Fan can't even do a game thread winning streak right. Perhaps he saw the Jay strike out to start the game and assumed a loss? Or maybe there is 5% chance of rain in the forecast and he figured a rainout was inevitable. Anyways, Cubs lineup is out and Javy is not in the lineup due to banging up his knee (Freeman is starting at SS :shock: ). -
And yet Louisville seems to be the one most screwed. Looks like the investigators intercepted a call where someone affiliated with Louisville offered 100k for Brian Bowen to commit, then 2 days later he did, which I believe came out of the blue as he wasn't heavily linked there previously. The more I read about this story, the bigger it gets...

With the Nationals win last night, the Cubs can officially not get the 2 seed and are locked into the 3 seed once they clinch the division. The Dodgers magic number to clinch the top seed and lock the Nationals/Cubs matchup in place is 2.

Touchback. The Bears player fumbling makes him liable for the impetus that caused the ball to go into the end zone. Iirc, if it goes out of the end zone without being intentionally batted it becomes a touchback too. Well definitely not as boneheaded as what Cooper did, but nice blunder by the Steelers holder. I guess you could argue in the heat of the moment he did what he did to avoid the TD but I don't think any Bears besides a stunned Cooper were anywhere near the ball.

I was thinking about that. If the Cubs win today, tomorrow's Brewers game starts at 6:40 and the Cubs at 7:15 so that would suck if the Brewers lost before we could win. But if we split the next 2 games and the Brewers win tomorrow, the Cubs game on Wednesday starts before the Brewers game. Why not just win tonight and tomorrow and celebrate? Doesn't matter what the Brewers do then. Well that's what they'd do, and no one would really care that the Brewers lost 20 minutes earlier and officially clinched it for the Cubs.

A win guarantees baseball beyond Sunday. Obviously it's inevitable at his point but nice to officially get that out of the way.

You are right that was probably a 5 or 6 PM start. I just remember it being miserably hot outside.

It's crazy, I can only think of 3 Cubs playoff games out of the...47 that have happened since 1989 that have been weekday afternoonish. 1998 Game 1 against the Braves was early afternoon, 2008 Game 1 against the Dodgers I believe was very late afternoon, something like a 4 or 5 PM start, and then 2015 Game 4 against the Cardinals started sometime around 3:30 PM. We've been quite fortunate in that regard. And maybe game 2 in the 2003 NLDS against the Braves? Pretty sure that was a night game. I remember because I was anxious waiting for the game to start so I signed up for some crappy north side Cubs board and made my first post there. Game 4 was a day game but was on a Saturday

I just don't see him fitting. He's sure as hell not gonna start, and with his first inning woes he's not cut out for the bullpen either. At some point you have to seriously consider that Lackey is a better option than Lester as a postseason starter this year. I think Lester still gives you a higher upside that makes it worth giving him a start in the NLDS. If it's a must win situation, you have Monty right there to back him up. Or that might be a reason to include an extra pitcher on the roster and include Lackey. If Lester struggled early you bring Lackey on right away to face a lineup that has likely been optimized to face a LHP.

Thinking about the playoff schedule and games times for Round 1. While the Cubs are still popular picks for night games, I am guessing that we will be seeing much of the 1st round in early-late afternoon time slots. Lets assume the current playoff spots hold and the WC1 teams both win. We'd be looking at: Astros-Red Sox Indians-Yankees Nationals-Cubs Dodgers-Diamondbacks This is 4 ET teams, 2 CT teams, and 2 PT teams (both playing each other). Each series has one of the premiere MLB teams playing in it, and the Indians-Yankees series as the the longest drought team playing the Yankees.

Question about the end of the half play...if the Steelers player had fallen on the ball instead of batting it out of the end zone, would that have been a safety or a touchback?

FWIW La Stella has reverse splits for his career, although his experience vs. LHP is limited to 107 PA (but .815 OPS in those 107 PA vs. .700 OPS in 631 PA against righties) and his BABIP is 75 points higher against lefties. I'm gussing the wide disparity in PAs is more because he's been primarily used as a PH or situational starter rather than him being awful against LHP.

They're not starting Mitch on a short week heading to Green Bay. Week 5 is the earliest we'll see him. As has been pointed out: GB defense kind of sucks so might actually benefit him to start vs GB instead of a better defense in Minnesota. Also, preparing for Trubisky on a short week with only preseason game film is just as difficult as preparing your QB for first start on a short week. But honestly how big of a deal is that anyways? If the Bears haven't been preparing him as if he were the starter every week, they are doing him and his development an injustice as well as the team an injustice because he is the backup QB and Glennon is a stiff whose injury is inevitable it seems.

I didn't like him either but he's nowhere near my least favorite Bull. There were a lot of negatives but I was impressed at how he was able to come back from that fractured elbow quite a bit earlier than expected for the stretch run/playoffs. If the Bulls would have kept Jimmy I might have actually liked him because one of the more important things he did was cement Jimmy in the circle of NBA elite. He was headed that way after the Olympics but being bros with Wade doesn't hurt either.
