    Here is the Peter King article. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/peter_king/10/04/week4/1.html#ixzz11OkgN1CK The flaw in his argument is that you can't compare the two QBs by only showing their stats. The trade is better for Denver if Kyle Orton is a better QB with his surrounding parts on Denver than Jay would have been better with those parts. That is going to take some imagination and simply laying out the Cutler v. Orton stats doesn't do much for me.

    But even the commentators who don't like the Bears now still think they can go 7-1 at the half. I don't think anyone thought they would get 7 wins by the half. Maybe 7 by season's end. I still can't figure them out. I would not be surprised if the line plays much better and the Bears blow out Carolina. The defense has been pretty solid though. I am pretty confident that they will bend and not break all season. Sure, but you luck into three straight wins (sort of, in different ways) and your record at the half has to be screwy. I don't buy it that the Bears lucked into three straight wins. They outplayed Dallas and Green Bay.

    Yep. Cutler has more mobility and a better arm. I think Orton has better leadership abilities and might be a little bit better of a decision maker. Cutler is the better QB, but I don't know by how much. If Cutler had Denver's line, he would be lighting things up. The Bears aren't 3-1 with this team and Kyle Orton. I am pretty sure Orton will fizzle down the stretch, but he is still playing better than I thought.

    Peter King now thinks that the Broncos got the better of the Cutler/Orton trade. Denver was so confident in it that they used a first round draft pick on another QB the year after.

    Yep...it was in David Haugh's column this morning. He's the only one that apparently noticed though. Others are saying that his teammates on the sideline noticed he wasn't acting like himself in the second quarter. They thought something was up. I'm just criticising to criticise at this point, but if teammates noticed him acting strange on the sidelines, he walked to the wrong sideline for a play, and on several plays he was for some reason unable to get the ball out of his hands while staring at an open target, why did it take until halftime to put 2+2 together and get him out of the game? Not that having Collins in earlier would have done anything but still. Maybe they thought he was just seeing stars after a hit and would get over it. Maybe they thought he was just missing the underneath routes as QBs sometimes do. The game was so crazy with so many weird things happening maybe no one bothered to say anything. David Haugh, according to what I heard, was the only guy who saw Cutler supposedly walking to the wrong sideline.

    Collins got into the mix what..halfway through training camp? And Martz gives the backups no time with the first team at all during the week. They only run the scout team. And he didn't know he as going to be starting the second half until he was on the sideline. I really can't blame the guy.

    He wasn't so much pouting as he was taking himself out of the game so that he wasn't absolutely killed in the second half which could have endangered his entire season. :D OK I admit Cutler was concussed. I think.

    670 in Chicago was saying that from the research they did, almost all injuries of the fifth metacarpal occur due to punching something.

    You think sitting down and not even trying to fight a guy trying to bring you down is playing well or not? It is perfectly clear to me that Cutler got flustered by the pressure and pretty much gave up. When the guys are wrapping him up and there are more than 1 doing it, fighting them is not going to do much. He was flustered, and for all we know, his head was seeing stars, but to think he gave up is absurd. The plays I am talking about was when there was only one guy trying to wrap him up. Oh, so he only had one 300 lb monster dragging him to the turf. There are plays when you have no chance to break free so you try to soften the blow that is coming. There are other plays when you have a chance of breaking free. I've seen Jay break free from guys that this year. Those are the types I am taking about. After he had been sacked a few times I think he didn't really try to get away from a few situations where there was only one guy going for him.

You think he quit, gave up, whatever and you arent going to change your mind and Im not going to change my mind that its a completely ignorant position to take regarding Cutler so. You just say "whatever"? I said "a guy" in my original post, not two or three. You assume two or three when I said one. Don't blame me buddy.

    I don't think anyone said that. I said he wasn't trying to win. He was just trying to make it out alive. And playing like that sends a message. Laurence Holmes is raising the point that Cutler could have had a concussion earlier in the game which really screwed with his abilit to make decision in the pocket.

    Laurence Holmes said Cutler or the docs aren't saying if the concussion was on one play or the cumulative effect of getting hit so many times.

    Doesn't make sense for these reasons: 1) By all accounts Cutler is a fierce competitor who wants to win above all else. I doubt he purposely plays bad in a completely winnable game 2) Cutler is smart enough to know that the O-line is not going to get better in season barring a miraculous trade for a quality guy. There's really no point to prove that can be fixed this season. He just has to roll with it I guess. 3) It's very possible that he was concussed earlier in the half and tried to play through it. I'm thinking the concussion was somewhat minor because if it was a decent concussion, he's not staying in the game. 1. Look at 2-3 times Cutler was close to getting sacked and ended up getting sacked. He pretty much gave up. He just sat down. Maybe he did that because he wanted to soften any injury he could have received, but there were 2-3 times where he didn't even try to escape. I don't think he purposely played bad, he just didn't try to play good. He was just trying to make it out alive. 2. Your point is rational, but by possibly giving up, he is telling someone that what happened was not acceptable. It is not going to change anything most likely, but he is sending a message. I am not sure that when a person is sacked 10 times you try to act as rational as possible. You are just flat out mad. 3. Agreed.

    I guess Jim Miller said Cutler got the concussion on the first play of the second half. What exactly happened on that play?

    Well I think giving up 10 sacks is just one of those games. They won't play that bad again. But the line is still probably the worst in football and you just can't gloss over that. But remember the stat NBC showed early in the game. Martz will bring more offense to a team. But his offenses, at least in their first year, always lead the league in sacks due to Martz's play calling. And that was with a good to decent line in St Louis wasn't it? Sacks are something you have to live with, just not 10 of them. Don't forget that the Bears have two of the most unintelligent receivers in the league (Bennett and Hester). I am not sure that they can find the hot reads and exploit them to get the underneath stuff.

    I blame this on Jerry. Tommie got hurt, demanded a new contract before the old was one completed, and Jerry capitulated. If Jerry allows that final year to play out, we all would have known that when your hamstring totally breaks off the bone you aren't going to have the speed you used to have. When was the last time Jerry played hardball with any player who wanted to redo their contract before it ended? It really is amazing that Jerry still has a job.

    The Packers and Cowboys have to be beside themselves as to how they could have lost to the Bears.

    Yep. Jay didn't bother to check down the entire first half. It doesn't appear like Martz believes in checking down. I rarely see a check down option and I know SpongeWorthy has pointed this out a few times. It's why his offenses have always taken an incredible amount of sacks, especially away from the super-talented Rams team. Lots of 7 step drops with lots of deep routes that take a long time to develop. He doesn't use the TE's traditionally and if you have to keep your RB in to help protect, there aren't going to be many check downs at all. Maybe so. But there was at least one time where Cutler missed Bennett who was 7 yards down the field running across and wide open.

    OB on 670 is saying that the Bears had max protect with two TEs for much of the game. If you only throw to two guys, aren't they both going to get double covered? So the line is going to break down and no one is going to be open.
