  1. Gameday had Rivero hitting 96 MPH a couple times against Kouzmanoff.
  2. Boo, that strike 3 to Javy was inside. I think I saw Almora in the dugout; hopefully he gets an AB.
  3. Haha. That was a terrible pitch, but that swing...my goodness.
  4. Hopefully with Vizcaino and/or Fujikawa in the pen and a McDonald DFA not too far behind.
  5. With what he showed last year, I think Grimm could be a top relief pitcher. I love this bullpen. I am a little surprised they're giving up on starting him though with Arrieta out.
  6. Your LF starter is one of the more obvious cuts. Disagree there. Off the top of my head, Jackson, Cabrera, and Watkins are all guys I'd rather cut instead of Vitters. There's still some potential for him to become a masher of lefties.
  7. Hopefully nobody bought a Welington Castillo jersey after his good season. Looks like he changed his number to 5.
  8. Haha. We need this so damn badly. ABTY, Marlin, and Stark all seem to be hearing similar things. My hopes are sky high at the moment.
  9. I'm going with Almora. My decision came down to Almora vs Edwards, not Soler. For a power prospect with a MLB-ready body, I can't help but want to see more game power from Soler. Admittedly, maybe the ridiculous showings by Baez and Bryant have clouded my judgement a bit in that department. Almora has shown great contact ability and by all accounts has been as-advertised on defense. I'm hoping him getting bigger and stronger will naturally lead to more HR's.
  10. I'm sure he'd love to do that right now.
  11. Definitely Baez. What he did in Double-A was spectacular. I love Bryant, but he's got contact issues himself. On another note, when is mlb.com going to update their lists? It bugs the [expletive] out of me when the MLB Network uses them and shows Bryant and Olt as #4 and #5 on the Cubs' list.
  12. I have no confidence Tanaka would pick us if the money is similar as other teams are offering. I mean there are a few positives we could offer, such as shorter travel to away games since we're in the midwest and having the potential to be the biggest star on the team. However, those are more than outweighed by shitty facilities and a shitty roster. The little hope I have comes from thinking how desperate the FO has to feel right now. I'm thinking something like a few extremely player-friendly player options at the tail end of the deal so he feels protected against injury (very possible, especially with his workload) or busting (less likely, as long as he's on the field). Do the expected 5-6 yrs for 100-120 MM and throw in a couple 15 MM player options. That would suck if his shoulder breaks, but we kinda need this signing. Despite what I've read a few times from people in the media, the Yankees aren't the most desperate team involved; they strike me as much more likely to just say "[expletive] it" and sign one of the big 3 FA pitchers left - Santana/Ubaldo/Garza than, say, the Cubs. The Cubs backup plan is most likely Hammel or Baker.
  13. I don't, seeing as how we've seen them do it several times now. Volstad and Lillibridge off the top of my head. Lillibridge starting had more to do with an injury than spring performance.
  14. Not that I'm counting on getting him, but I'd say my expectations are a little higher now than they were before. The Yanks and Dodgers (LA hasn't been talked about much lately though) have always been linked to him, so that's nothing new. But I do like the amount of people who have listed the Cubs as serious players.
  15. The couple times McLeod has publicly spoken about Javy's position, he's made it sound like they're leaning towards 2B. It will depend on how those positions are performing like David said (my guess is they like Valbuena at 3B more than Barney at 2B) and how confident they are Bryant will stick at 3B.
  16. It's almost as if trying to compete matters. And/or having money. That helps too.
  17. Holy smokes. So the Mariners have to be the heavy favorites to sign him, right? It's not like he has to worry about another contract if/when the change in parks (and of course, age, but that would've happened in NY as well) hurts his numbers.
  18. No Rosscup? I don't think Rosscup is any good. I just do not trust his control. Raley, on the other hand, I think can be a darn good LOOGY. I don't know about Rusin as a reliever; might be better off keeping him as a 7th-8th starter in Iowa and I'm not sure his stuff is suited to strike out lefties well. I'm intrigued, what makes you say Rosscup isn't any good? 14.65K/9 6.35H/9 give the impression otherwise unless you think he's getting by completely on a gimmicky deception type style like Jon Gaub used to. The walks are definitely high, but even so with his otherworldly K/9 it's not a death sentence. For me, it's the walks. He's nearing 6BB/9 in his career between Double-A, Triple-A, and the MLB. I can see him being above average at striking guys out based on his minor league numbers and deception, but his stuff isn't amazing, so I'll believe he'll have an otherworldly K/9 in the majors when I see it. Compare that to Raley, who, in admittedly a small sample in the bigs last year (25 lefties faced in 2013), had a 32% K rate and a 8% BB rate vs LHH. He had success with the slider which is a good pitch against a batter with the same handedness. Wright will obviously be on the roster, and Russell will be if he's not traded, though I think most expect him to be moved. If we're going with a 2nd lefty, I'd put Raley in over Rosscup.

  20. Why was he non-tendered to begin with? He's a good reliever.
  21. Hopefully Tanaka was also a big Sosa fan growing up.
  22. If they're treating it as new info, it could be Choo signing for more than the Ellsbury deal. Or Taijuan Walker traded for something not very good.
  23. I don't know about the Sox or Marlins, but I'd be very surprised if the Astros didn't bid the max in that scenario.
  24. Yeah I agree with this. Not sure why Hoyer and Theo are saying different things though - maybe Theo is more comfortable with calling out his boss more so than Jed who is trying to be politically correct.
  25. Buxton/Sano or Almora/Bryant? You have to choose a pair. Wait, why add a prospect who isn't as good (Almora) in there when everyone would take Buxton/Sano over Baez/Bryant?
