  1. I doubt the plan is to start Javy at Iowa next year if he's called up Sep 1, so I think you might as well call him up now if you're going to at all. Getting him more big league exposure is more important than draft positioning. It's been said before, but I don't think Javy's first few hundred MLB plate appearances will positively affect the win total anyway, but if he does somehow hit well after a promotion, Jaxon can continue to lead the tanking.
  2. #20. A nice round number to end his AAA career.
  3. Iowa plays a DH starting in just a couple hours. Should be interesting to see that lineup.
  4. Mendy is sporting a 10.8% walk rate and a 23% K rate. .359 wOBA, good defense up the middle. Good player.
  5. I kind of forgot how little velocity Parker has.
  6. I think Nate will be DFA'd as soon as Bonifacio gets traded. I'm of the belief Javy will be called up, and if Nate isn't cut, the bench would be Baker and 3 outfielders, with the backup infielder being the starting CFer (Alcantara). There also would be no backup third baseman (Coghlan maybe could?). I think we see Watkins or Valaika brought up with Javy.
  7. The new gameday really sucks; I always find myself opting for the classic one. Generic video game graphics don't make up for the fact that you need to click to see the box score and field view. The old one shows everything perfectly.
  8. Almora double followed by a Russell single
  9. And to think, they could've gotten Arrieta for him.
  10. The Cubs go to Coors the second series after the deadline. Wouldn't mind seeing Javy hit in that place.
  11. Zero walks and a bunch of ground balls. I like it.
  12. I think we sign 2 pitchers to add to Arrieta, Hendricks, and one of Jaxon/Wood
  13. Please don't turn into a Hendrix, Hendricks.
  14. One of these years, like the first 15 picks will all be position players.
  15. And here I was, making a condescending post about Friedman turning down Russell for Price. Didn't realize how well they've been doing lately.
  16. Nice. It's funny that since joining the Cubs he's turned into Javy 2.0 - 6 homers, 14 K's, 3 BB's in 17 games.
  17. Thank you Andrew Friedman for not taking Addison Russell.
  18. If Castillo is signed, my guess is they'd go with an OF of Soler, Castillo, Bryant and an infield of Russell, Castro, Baez, Rizzo when everyone is ready. Alcantara can fill in every position and be injury insurance for Soler. Almora, McKinney, and Schwarber aren't worth caring about as far as projecting into lineups yet.
  19. Nah, they wouldn't screw with someone who has a future with the team like that. I'm worried he's injured. Didn't they hold Rizzo down for months when he was more than ready at AAA? That's different than sending someone down after dominating in the majors. Surly the FO would like another top 5 pick, but they aren't going to do that at the expense of toying with the good young players already on the roster. He either is just tired or, I worry, more injured than they are letting on.
  20. Nah, they wouldn't screw with someone who has a future with the team like that. I'm worried he's injured.
  21. That wasn't a strike anyway, but that wasn't even received all that well either.
  22. Does Mark Wegner ever umpire games in which one of the Chicago teams isn't involved?
  23. bunt that was chopped high off the plate. So kind of, I guess.
  24. Jackson hasn't been this bad, but he's been bad before. The argument was made by people smarter than me that Wood's previous success was him overperforming. That either will bounce back, much less both, is nowhere near a sure thing. And I'm not giving up on Hendricks, but ultimately I think he'll settle in as a back of the rotation guy if he sticks as a starter. He was overperforming when he put up a 3.10 ERA, yeah. But I don't think anyone thought he'd turn into this or this is who he is from now on. I don't even like Wood, so I'm going to stop defending him after this post.
