before last season's flukey shoulder injury, ramirez had accumulated 500 or more ABs in 7 of the last 8 seasons. except for 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 Actually, his career OPS in May is .747, which is quite a bit less than is .859 career OPS in his 2nd worth month, August. I think it's fair to say that he starts out slow. Considering his March/April OPS is 6 points off of his career total, I'd say it's pretty strange to say he starts slow.

He also said that Nebraska and Colorado were wise to get out when they could. We'll see what kind of rules are put in place to prevent other schools from bolting, but I agree with him. Man...those schools were truly terrified of life after the Big 12. can't say i blame them. if the reported deal is true, baylor and iowa st stand to make $15 million in tv revenue. nobody cares about those schools and nobody is tuning in to watch them on tv. if not for the coattails of the real teams in that conference, they'd make about 15 dollars in tv revenue. Is that with or without the MyBaylorTV revenues?

seems to me he's bounced back since last year and thus not trending in the wrong direction. Let's wait until this year is over before we make that distinction. According to WAR, Soriano was exactly replacement level last year. He's already at 1.7 this year. What's your projection for him the rest of the season? 130/200/175 with 84 errors?

They wouldn't want to pay anything. The question is would they take him period if they had to pay only the league minimum? I'm sure some teams would, but only one that (a) an American league team and (b) had zero better options now or for the forseable future. Every team in baseball would take free Soriano for 4 years. And the Cubs would be the laughingstock of baseball (har har) for making such a stupid trade.

B/c he's less than replacement level value right now or close to it. Last year he was replacement level at a 0.0 WAR but this year he's already been worth 1.7 WAR, so quite a bit above replacement level. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=847&position=2B/OF#value I'm betting by the end of this year he'll be in negative territory. Based on what? You think his performance the rest of this season is going to be far worse than his performance on 1 leg last year?

I'm not completely against calling up a lesser prospect since the team isn't going anywhere and you can save someone from starting their MLB clock. Cashner's already on the major league team. And starting Thomas Diamond's clock is not a concern to me. -
