  1. You mean his .335 OBP and sub .800 OPS? For only 12M/Year
  2. Picking up Rios was a good move because they planned to play him in center. Where he was you know he could be a mediocre hitter but as long as he fielded the position well a good centerfielder with power potential isn't cheap anymore. Picking up Juan Pierre and Mark Teahen those were bad moves. The defensive metrics had Rios as a below average defensive RF last year, and even with plus defense in CF, he wasn't hitting at an acceptable rate for his (long-term) contract. (Not to mention his horrendous showing at the plate the year before.) Rios is playing at or below the level of Marlon Byrd this year for twice the salary, and good news, the White Sox get to pay for this for 4 more seasons.
  3. I think it was just the one wrist injury, but he never took time off to get it healed properly, so it did bother him a bit.
  4. Can we imprison everyone that has anything to do with Kansas athletics for their scam?
  5. So claiming Rios was a good move because it turned out well for the White Sox, in spite of the fact that the Sox were picking up a big contract for a guy who sucked. Trading for Peavy was also a good move, because in spite of the fact that it turned out to be a total [expletive] disaster, you thought it was a good move at the time.
  6. BTN just said Illinois is 1-16 in their last 17 Big Ten openers. That doesn't seem possible.
  7. Pujols didn't even realize he'd be receiving a medal because he's too focused on baseball.
  8. Like Adrian Gonzalez and Adam Dunn.
  9. Fuentes is going to be a setup man for Capps
  10. We tried that, but the rooftop backed out on us saying they were holding out for a bigger group package, so we're going through Durkin's
  11. Much better purple to orange ratio than Welsh-Ryan. I'm interested to see what the divide will be like with the game being at Wrigley. I know there are some serious limitations in place to keep these tickets in-house for NU, but Illinois fans have their ways. If we can put out a half-way decent team leading up to this game, I'd expect a sizable contingent of orange.
  12. Oooh another Saturday afternoon game for me to be an obnoxious state schooler on the road? Can't wait.
  13. Or a world where AA stats are less important than major league stats. English.
  14. Cot's says he has 7+ years of service time after 2009, so probably due to service time. 2008 was the 6th season he pitched in, and 9th season after his debut. Well, either way the soonest Strasburg would become a free agent is after the 2015 season. But wasn't that part of the reason they delayed his callup this year, to not give him a full year of service time? It's not a matter how many seasons you pitched in, it's full major league service time. Ohman had maybe a month of active major league service time before '05. The rest of his service time was accrued while sitting on the DL in '03 and '04
  15. Free agency service time? Yes, again I use Ohman as an example, he was granted free agency after the '08 season. It says he signed a minor league contract in March of 2009. Was he granted free agency due to service time or because Atlanta didn't tender him a contract? When a player is non-tendered, baseballreference lists it as a release in the transaction history. Ohman was granted free agency due to service time following the '08 season.
  16. Are they going to have enough material for a full statue, or do they have to stop at his nose.
  17. Free agency service time? Yes, again I use Ohman as an example, he was granted free agency after the '08 season.
  18. Hahaha what?
  19. It's not the end of the world. TJS usually isn't a huge deal and a lot of pitchers actually comes back stronger after having it and fully recovering. Yeah, this means they won't see him next year, but next year was going to be another step in their rebuilding process anyway. This actually has a good chance of prolonging his career (and thus the money that the Nats can make off of him) and hopefully will line up nicely with when it's time to unleash Harper. this must be covered by insurance, right? so the Nationals aren't losing all of the money they're paying him for next year. Though, if you're the Nationals, while you don't want to wear him down to nothing, are you really concerned about his career when he's 30+ more than the next several years? What are the chances that he's pitching for the Nationals after this contract runs out? If he's anywhere near as good as advertised, very small, so this is pretty much the worst thing for the Nationals. It's not like a normal rookie where it's a cheap year. And if he never really comes back to 100% (or doesn't for 3-5 years), they can't even trade him for before he's a FA for nearly as much as they thought they could. I don't think there's a silver lining here for the Nats at all. He doesn't accrue service time next season right? This would extend the age at which they will lose control over him. And since they are more likely to be contenders later than next year specifically, it's not all bad. Pretty sure you accrue service time while on the 60 day DL. It's how Will Ohman wound up arb-eligible after 1 season of pitching.
  20. I don't want to live in a world where Starlin Castro is considered less valuable than Scott Podsednik
  21. Reminded me of my high school gym
  22. I can hear sulley laughing maniacally from here.
  23. It would look a lot better with Fukudome in there instead of Colvin. For the first couple of months of the season atleast. Yeah Kosuke's been [expletive] terrible this month. Whoops, misspelled Colvin.
