  1. Does it really matter which Ortiz it is? It could be David Ortiz for all I care. He doesn't deserve to have his name remembered. PS, which Ortiz was the one that pitched against the Cubs in the 2003 NLDS? I think it was Russ right? Ramon Ortiz Mike Hampton Aging Greg Maddux Were the 3 pitchers they threw at us in that series. No wonder we somehow won. Well, it's not like any of those guys were bad that year, and the Braves had like the best offense in baseball. ETA: I don't remember Karros hitting 2 HRs in a game at all that series. Yeah they had an awesome offense indeed. Look at their normal starting 8 by OPS+ 169 - Javy Lopez (1.065) 165 - Gary Sheffield (1.023) 137 - Chipper Jones (.920) 136 - Marcus Giles (.917) 117 - Andruw Jones (.851) 105 - Rafael Furcal (.794) 97 - Vinny Castilla (.771) 95 - Robert Fick (.753) The pitching though reminds me of the 07-08 Cubs in that, while they didn't have an ace quality pitcher, they had a lot of above average starters, 4 of them hovering between 3.75-4.00 ERA. They could be gotten to and they were to an extent. Love that 1B was their worst offensive position. Their rotation that year was the reason it was so stupid to pitch Ortiz and Hampton on short rest in 4 and 5 rather than throwing Ramirez in game 4.

  3. It's evil because he's Japanese isn't it.
  4. We hope Matt Szczur turns into a worse version of Juan Pierre?
  5. I still suck at reading Twitter copy-pastes Callis is responding to a tweet by saying the reason we're not hearing about Cubs signings is that they're so much over slot. I know, it just took me a few extra seconds. Thanks though. I know how you struggle sometimes.

  7. Was this before or after LaRussa said they were throwing at him and Braun should've ducked?
  8. As if this year wasn't bad enough. I'd be stunned if they plan on going into next year with a Soriano/Jackson/Colvin OF, so it really shouldn't matter who they slot into RF, it'll be Jackson/Byrd/new acquisition's soon enough.
  9. Just a #3-4 pitcher IMO. Never should've traded Sam Fuld for him.
  10. The Vino will take care of that soon enough.
  11. You think other school's coaches wouldn't have access to these games without the Longhorn Network?
  12. Nobody in the AL Central has a pythagorean record above 500
  13. I could see both the Angels and Blue Jays giving him that type of contract potentially. Both have tons of money to spend and nothing set in stone at first base (Trumbo for Anaheim and Lind for Toronto). I think the Angels will put that money towards giving Vernon Wells a raise.
  14. I think the hometown discount left town with their insulting offer last offseason.
  15. Well that's not a good thing to say.
  16. Well then somebody needs to show him the next year's episode where he gets all his money back. STOP SAFARING AND GETYOURSELF SOME DVDS MR RICKETTS
  17. STAT 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005 16.5 % of baserunners driven in 18.2 17.3 19.7 18.9 20.0 18.4 .342 runs per baserunner 0.353 0.345 0.381 0.364 0.370 0.365 Funny to see that the team was at its clutchiest during that awful '06 season.
  18. What is the point of this? It was an idle thought. Sadly, it wasn't a shining moment. It was more of a mutter, or an under the breath whispering. I fear I have let myself down today. Today I will make it a point to achieve for higher standards. I will reach for the top. I will climb tall buildings. I will put up the toilet seat. Today I will strive to find this point. Aren't you supposed to put down the toilet seat? NOT OFF TO A GREAT START WITH THESE STANDARDS
  19. My first guess would be changes in measurement/classification. Beat me to it. A huge jump like that league-wide, and sustained over 2 seasons couldn't be an adjustment to approach.
  20. I have to imagine the Cubs 5th starters have been sub-replacement level.
  21. Someone who's cleared, or is claimed by the opposing team. Yep
  22. Let's also ignore the drastic difference between this year's run environment versus the run environment throughout Pujols's career.
  23. I'm guessing somebody found a flaw. ERA around 5.70, K/BB around 1.2 with the Cubs peaking at A ball. Spends a year in the indy league, comes back with the Padres dominates high A, goes to AA, winds up with a K/BB of 5, and an ERA under 1.
