  1. The Daytona Cubs twitter feed described it as a "MOONSHOT" for what that's worth. I didn't know a bunt could be a moonshot.
  2. I can't imagine a scenario where LaHair hits 280 in the majors for more than 60 ABs.
  3. Yeah, especially DePaul.
  4. Not really that interesting at all. It's rare to go back to back and there's a few other teams that are worthy selections alongside them. Then explain to me why I've heard the word "dynasty" all week. Been talking to Erik a lot?
  5. Wayyyy too much time. It's giving me time to cycle through the teams to figure out where these guys might have gone to school. And I still couldn't figure out BC '98

  7. Wells.
  8. This implies that Colorado is also a good school. Boulder's pretty good, especially for a public school. #86 on US News & World Reports, Oklahoma's not far behind though at #111 so I guess I was mistaken. Okie State - 136, Texas Tech 159.
  9. Probably shouldn't have joined a conference with Arizona, Arizona State and Washington State if you were that interested in academics. I get his point, but I don't know exactly -- what is a "cinch" or "gut" course? A class offered at The University of Kansas.
  10. I was gonna bring up Hoffman's 1999 or some of Mariano's best years. Or heck even the insane numbers Kimbrel has posted this year. But damn, I don't think anything tops that. I tried looking, couldn't find anything. I think the best I found to compete with it was Jose Mesa's 1995: 64IP 1.13ERA 46SV 58K 8ER 17BB 1.03WHIP 418ERA+ Omar Vizquel disagrees.
  11. What kind of nonsensical jackass statement is this and in what way does it come close to responding to what I wrote? No less nonsensical or jackassy than "this is a weird way to think." Good thing that made up maybe a quarter of my post...Why so hostile? Cockiness can be good, sure. Tweeting about how you worked hard and therefore should have been called up isn't what most would call cockiness. He'll see the majors, and it will be with the Cubs (unless he's involved in a trade for an obvious upgrade somewhere else on the roster). Don't forget another difference: The mentality that it's fine to do something like that in a public domain because people say and do stupid [expletive] through that medium all the time. It's not, and he shouldn't have. Yep, professional athletes are known for their reasoned well-thought out responses to disappointment.
  12. Garcon. Bennett vs Atlanta shouldn't even be on your radar.
  13. It's a great thing to have cockiness in your own mind. It's not a great thing to tweet it to the detriment of your organization. Also, it helps when your performance backs it up. In Carpenter's case, he hasn't done that. The only difference between Carpenter and some guy that was pissed about not getting a call-up 20 years ago is that Carpenter has the means to instantly express his feelings to the public.
  14. It's not like the Ivy League was ready to offer the invite. Also, is Oklahoma really on par with CU academically?
  15. Cockiness is good. Thinking you belong in the majors is a good thing. A good coach will channel this energy into proving it on the field. A bad coach will call him a baby for whining and put him the doghouse until he's claimed by another team.
  16. Yeah, but where does The Sporting News have our fans ranked? 11th in the Big 12.
  17. Well that's what you get for being the mopey Mizzou guy. I'm being partly facetious because there's really no scenarios that have Mizzou in a non-BCS conference at this point. But still, aside from "they have really good football teams and money", the SEC is a horrible landing spot. They are widely considered at the bottom of BCS conferences when it comes to academics, basketball, lunatic fanbases, ethics/corruption, obnoxious conference hivemind, etc. Every conference has things like that to an extent, though. Florida, Kentucky, Vandy, Mizzou, A&M isn't a bad top-five for a basketball conference. I don't buy that football would be a bottomfeeder in that league at all (they'd struggle at first, I'm sure, and they probably won't compete for conference titles in football, but it wouldn't be much different than it is now), and they could do big things to their facilities and to the athletic department as a whole with that type of money coming in. That's a bad top 5 for a basketball conference. Probably the worst of the 5 big time conferences.
  18. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but having Delaney say quality over quantity would mean ND and a school out east (should push come to shove). And then hopefully no reason to go from 14 to 16 schools. ND's obviously the big prize for the Big Ten as long as Texas holds on to the LHN. I imagine the 14th would come down to Syracuse, Maryland, or Missouri. Missouri keeps the conference more centralized, and has a better in-state population for BTN subscriptions than Maryland.
  19. After 27 years, I think it's too late to change UMFan.
  20. Speculating about Chuck LaMar coming on board is not what I would call fun.
  21. And I cry and cry and cry. I knew it at 18-6 same here. as soon as i saw 18-6, my heart dropped all right, i feel i need to redeem myself now what would you say, if i told you the 3rd-best K/9 season from a SP in the history of the game was posted by a 21 year old? GFY
  22. [expletive], I just realized we might wind up stuck with Mizzou in the Big 10. What a nightmare.
  23. I can see your point on defense, but a kicker is a kicker is a kicker. EDIT: I see now those aren't starting spots, just roster spots. Still, with Cutler as your QB, I'd make sure to get one of the best backups before worrying about the difference between Nate Kaeding and Neil Rackers.
  24. Now you've really done it.
