You know all these Theo related screen names are going to be hard to differentiate when it comes time to committing to memory what to make fun of people for.
Tom's title is still owner. The fact that Theo would answer to one owner rather than the family of owners is irrelevant to the promotion question. The fact the would answer to one owner rather than one crazyface who reports to the owner(s) certainly is. relevant.
So the Cubs are considering hiring Hoyer, who may stay in SD, but if he goes, Byrnes will be the SD GM, unless the Cubs hire Byrnes, who is also being considered, in which case presumably Hoyer will remain SD GM. Confirmed. Until something changes.
You think compensation would be equal for a lateral move compared to a promotion? Nobody's arguing there should be no compensation involved. Correct. The whole reason for compensation is that the Red Sox are losing Epstein's services. It doesn't really matter to them what role he's taking with the Cubs. If Cherington left to become assistant GM of the Cubs, you think it would be the same as leaving to become GM? The Red Sox would not grant permission to the Cubs to interview Cherington for an assistant GM position. This isn't that tricky to grasp. Divorce the permission issue from the compensation issue, and you're home free. Well, you're wrong as usual if you think a generic team views a guy leaving one job for the same job the same as leaving one job for a promotion.

Did the Red Sox minors take that huge a leap forward that they have the high-ground to mock the Cubs system incessantly? Prior to the Garza trade, the Cubs system was ranked 16th. The Red Sox were ranked 17th.
The Red Sox are going to let $6.5 million burn, and that's certainly worth more than the entirety of Australia. laugh now; when you're enslaved by australia in 5 years we'll see who's laughing. Ewwww, these pouches aren't like in cartoons.
Come on now. Two prospects in the 6-10 range is more than fair compensation for Epstein. That's less than the Guillen-Florida deal, for a more important role. The 6-10 range in one system is not equal to the 6-10 range in another system. The White Sox return on the Guillen trade sucked. AND WE DIDN'T [expletive] TAMPER WITH EPSTEIN AND THEO'S GETTING A PROMOTION AND THEY'VE ALREADY HIRED HIS REPLACEMENT AND THEY'D OWE HIM 6.5M IF THEY KEEP HIM JUST TO BE DICKS
In all the pictures I've seen of immigrants coming to Ellis Island on boats, who ever saw a picture of a pony?? Why would anyone leave a land filled with ponies to come to those where ponies are scarce??
There are certainly more than 10 guys in the Cubs organization (majors and minors) who I'm not ok with giving up for Theo. My list probably differs wildly from WSR's (Take Rafael Dolis, please), but to say there aren't 10 guys that are property of the Cubs that you'd have issues giving up(when not necessary) is kangaroo-stab-worthy
I doubt that's going to work, considering the Cubs might not have more than 10 players in the organization that the Red Sox would want. Castro Garza Soto Marshall Anyone else from the ML roster? Then a handful of intriguing prospects: Jackson McNutt Sczrzr That's 7. Pick your favorite next three (not including 2011 draftees), and the cupboard is pretty bare after that. You can only think of 3 prospects another team might want? The pessimistic whining of some fans makes me want to stab kittens. Sure in a vacuum, there are other guys that another team would want. But as compensation for Epstein, it sure feels like the Sox are shooting higher than the mid-tier stuff that's left. How about we give them any 2 outside the top 10 and a pony.

The Sox also have a contractual obligation to Epstein--he is their GM. If they tried to make him the "co-GM" or demote him to scout or even "promote" him to Special Assistant to the President in Charge of Pencil Sharpening (or whatever) THEN he would have a contractual beef (and win in any court). The specific language of the contract may or may not permit the Red Sox to reassign Epstein. We don't know. But clearly that's not the situation we're in. The Sox have made no effort to get out of their contractual obligation to Epstein, so I'm not sure where you're going with this. They've made no effort to reassign him because they're banking on him being the Cubs GM. It would be pretty dumb for crazyface Lucchino to put Epstein in charge of ticket sales in the middle of his dumbass negotiations.
That's only because a trip to Australia would take away from the 70% of income he puts in savings. The Red Sox taught me that making empty threats around here convinces some people to give in. I can't believe Truffle's going to let all of Australia burn just because he wants the Cubs to trade Trey McNutt!! He'll be the laughingstock of the national weather service!
If they lose someone like McNutt because they weren't willing to take someone like Hahn or Coppolella, I may have to burn down Australia. Now I know you don't really mean that. That's only because a trip to Australia would take away from the 70% of income he puts in savings.
