  1. Any manager looking at the Cubs opening sure as [expletive] is going to be thinking a lot about minor league talent. I'd be thinking mostly about getting my money paid upfront #PoorTomRicketts
  2. Yeah, pretty heroic of them to keep Colorado State and Georgia State out of the end zone.

  4. I honestly can't choose between the Dodgers and Red Sox. I'll pull for the A's or Tigers in the ALCS and despise the Cardinals, but fair weather LA band wagoneers versus Boston fans...guh. Tough call. LA for me and it's not even close. My hatred for Boston rivals that of STL, not quite there though Red Sox all the way because Coletti is a drooling buffoon
  5. I blame Washington's ridiculous handling of Strasburg last year for that more than I blame STL. They were just the lucky bastards that got to play them. You think they would've brought in Strasburg to close game 5?
  6. Pitcher signed past this season for Arizona are Heath Bell, JJ Putz (7M for a setup man with an 86M payroll!!), Trevor Cahill and Brandon McCarthy. I can't imagine he'd be dumb enough to complain that his closer wasn't hitting guys on purpose, and Putz kept going on the DL, so he'd probably bitch about him being a [expletive] instead. McCarthy has 1Y/10.25M left Cahill has 2Y/20.4M left (with a couple club options after) I'd be all over McCarthy, who judging by his personality on Twitter is probably reviled by Towers, and had numbers worse than his peripherals, so Towers may underrate him.
  7. Man it is impossible to find anything about that online. I recall Ron gardenhire
  8. I'm taking a Longview here
  9. Some guy uk has mentioned for every opening in the system for the last 8 years I keep it consistent. I still think Dierker over Baker was the right move. I think terry bevington over dusty was the right move
  10. Dying on the field would be considered the worst game ever right?
  11. Some guy uk has mentioned for every opening in the system for the last 8 years
  12. Between 1st ballot bias, DH bias, and steroid era bias, I doubt he makes it this year
  13. Stop it. You are going to make Robbie Hummel cry and when Robbie Hummel cries, Da Bum eats more chili and from that point you are just asking for trouble from a butterfly effect of bad gas. Can we stop having DaBum as the representative Purdue fan? Nobody liked him, including other Purdue fans, and he's been gone for what... 3 years now? You have a plethora of other Purdue fans that currently post here to pick from. Smack hasn't exactly draped himself in glory the past couple seasons
  14. thats one way of putting it Loose definition of the words "Lot" "interesting", "big", "league", "ready", "3B", "depth" and "between" make that sentence potentially true. When was the last time Gamel actually played 3rd base? I could be way off but I thought that ship sailed 3 years ago. It wouldn't shock me if Junior Lake was ahead of Gamel and Vitters on the 3rd base depth chart. Villanueva most likely is as well
  15. Yeah Frank is a tough one. He'll get in eventually but maybe not on the first ballot. I believe if he got in he'd be the first member who played more games at DH. That may hurt him with the meatheads more than him being a large guy in the roid era. I don't think there has ever been much speculation about him and roids. He was a hulk of a man back when he played at Auburn. I really don't give a [expletive] about who did steroids, but the argument that a guy couldn't have been juiced because he was big when he played college football always makes me laugh.
  16. I'll bet a bajillion dollars less than 6 people get in.
  17. But (as I said before) there are more than 10 guys worthy. Jeff Kent could easily be knocked off the ballot after 1 year which would be ludicrous ETA: Hell, Sosa could easily slip below 5% this year.

  19. If the Rays win, Price could go on normal rest for game 5, so it's not really a huge risk. All he's really losing for game 5 is Matt Moore, and even he could probably go an inning then.
  20. Im at the office and can only see bits and pieces of the game (with no sound,) so I have no idea what reasoning he's got for this crazy all star game approach, but I think it's [expletive] awesome that it's happening in the playoffs in an elimination game and is working so well. just turned the game on. plz explain Constant pitching changes. Hellickson loaded em up with no outs in the 2nd, brought in Jamey Wright who got out of it. Moore for 2 innings, Torres for 2 innings, I'd imagine he'll use 3 more to try to close it out
  21. No, it isn't projecting a HOF bat for Javy. It's saying if he hits his insane ceiling he'll have a HOF bat. You know what I meant. Point is, I can't see taking any minor leaguer and saying, "if he hits his ceiling, he's a Hall of Famer". That's what you're saying by "Sheffield is too low". Well that's just silly. In any given year there are minor leaguers whose ceiling is that of a hall of famer. Otherwise nobody would ever be a hall of famer. No. There are minor leaguers whose ceiling is an elite player. Longevity is what makes them HoF. Nobody can project a minor leauger to be elite for upwards of 12-15 years. Projection is not = ceiling.
  22. I guess I misinterpreted that it was simply Sheffield's bat they were looking at.
  23. Gary Sheffield the career infielder is basically A-Rod/Chipper territory. But...he wasn't a career infielder
