  1. I hope this lasts as long as the last time he was moved to the rotation. TT pretty much summed up my thoughts.
  2. Illinois hadn't had a winning season since before I went to school there.
  3. How have the Cubs thrown Prior under a bus? If anything, they've protected him more than he's probably deserved. They've kept everyone in the dark about his various injuries for years and been patient with his various recoveries. Any talk of Prior being soft or faking injuries has come from outside the organization, not from Hendry, Baker, Piniella, or any of the players. Baker pretty much called him a headcase in the media. There's been insinuations for the past few years be it directly, or via "anonymous team officials" calling Prior soft implying that he wasn't willing to pitch through discomfort like a real man would.
  4. This is why the big names that are under suspicion will never be exonerated. Nobody will accept that steroid testing is legit until their own white whale is taken down.
  5. They'd risk losing him to Rule 5, and I'm guessing as part of Harben's agreement to re-sign with the team he had to be added to the 40 man.(He was a minor league fa right?)
  6. Why not just accept the option, then when you decide if you don't want to come back, you retire?
  7. People acting irrationally in a rant forum should definitely be banned.
  8. I'd be shocked if the NCAA doesn't amp up the sanctions on Sampson. You can't let a coach violate the terms of his previous punishment and let him off with anything but fiercer punishment.
  9. So how does +/- not rate a player based on his current situation with the club?
  10. I was wondering how long it'd take you to show up! :D BTW, the Illinois-Indiana banter is already annoying. Just wait til the sanctions drop =P~ =P~
  11. I hope he means it, I want him at U of I for a long time, but its going to be hard to pass up more prestigious jobs sooner or later. I really don't know about that based on both sides of the coin. The big name programs(looking in your direction Nebraska) have seen how things worked out for Zook at a big name school. Meyer won with Zook's team last year, but if you look at it superficially just at the records, I'm guessing Zook at UF doesn't come out much better than Callahan at Nebraska. Also, Zook saw how things worked out at a big name school, constantly under the microscope, BCS or you're fired. I think it works best for both sides(The big schools and Zook) that he stays put.
  12. I think we hang with OSU throughout much of the game, then they pull away late. So basically SOP for the Buckeyes. I'm really happy that we're looking at an 8-4(5-3) season in all likelihood, but it is frustrating knowing that all 3 of our losses thus far were winnable games. That and ya just know Mendenhall is gone after this season which sucks.
  13. This should be fun/probably embarrassing. (18) Auburn at (10) Georgia -- Auburn by 11 (12) USC at (24) California -- USC by 14 Illinois at (1) Ohio State -- Ohio State by 10 (5) Kansas at Oklahoma State -- Kansas by 20 Louisville at (6) West Virginia -- West Virginia by 24 Florida State at (11) Virginia Tech -- Virginia Tech by 14 (13) Michigan at Wisconsin -- Michigan by 7 Texas Tech at (15) Texas -- Texas by 12 (16) Connecticut at Cincinnati -- UConn by 2 (17) Florida at South Carolina -- Florida by 6 Wake Forest at (20) Clemson -- Clemson by 1 Arkansas at (22) Tennessee -- Tennessee by 8 (23) Virginia at Miami -- Virginia by 5 Top 25 mismatches ------------------ Louisiana Tech at (2) LSU -- LSU by 34 Baylor at (4) Oklahoma -- Oklahoma by 23 Texas A&M at (7) Missouri -- Missouri by 14 (8) Boston College at Maryland -- Maryland by 7 (9) Arizona State at UCLA -- UCLA by 3 Fresno State at (14) Hawaii -- Hawaii by 20 (19) Boise State at Utah State -- Boise State by 31 (25) Kentucky at Vanderbilt -- Kentucky by 14
  14. And Eric Gordon got a tooth knocked out!
  15. What's the cutoff? What makes a metric like W-L and Batting Average okay? Do those stats not measure things in a vacuum? Are team wins and losses the only thing we should talk about and thusly, everyone on winning team = good, everyone on losing team = bad?
  16. My guesses for wrong ranking: Louisville/WV is a blowout, BC/MD is close
  17. Not sure if that's true. IF KU and OSU win out, I think they'll play for the title. I think an undefeated KU would leapfrog Oregon and LSU in the polls. Not saying they're a better team, but I think it would happen. KU almost definitely won't win out though if they don't get their D back in order. You might be right, but rarely (not never, but rarely) does a team drop in the polls unless they lose. I think the computers combined with the polls will keep LSU in the second spot if they win out. If LSU wins out, they will add a win over Arkansas as well as whoever they beat in the SEC championship. I think that will be enough. KU will have added 2 wins better than that in that timeframe.
  18. at this point I'll be rooting for OSU to beat Illinois, if only to solidify PSU at 3rd place Well we'd still have the head to head tiebreaker against you if we beat NU, not that I think that matters for anything besides the outright title. But still, it's nice to know we'd have to choke to not have a 3rd place finish.
  19. Their bye week? They were more impressive this week than the week before losing to Miss. St.
  20. So you realize this makes no sense right? These NERDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! metrics are baseball statistics. But, no they weren't on the back of your baseball cards as a kid so they're made by people who've never played the game and just like doing quadratic equations on their Friday nights.
  21. It was already touched on earlier, albeit briefly, but if KU and OSU go undefeated they'll have to beat the 2nd and 3rd place teams in their respective conferences to do it. (Illinois, Michigan) (Mizzou, Oklahoma) If they run the table, I think they'll both deserve it. That said, I think both lose one and it winds up OU vs. OU after LSU chokes it in the SEC title game to a not great SEC East team. The SEC gauntlet complaining will be heard for miles.
  22. When's the last time an SEC team was playing on a neutral field for a bowl game?
  23. I have never heard Mike Lowell called the spirit of the Marlins team. It was always Pierre, Beckett, and to a lesser extent Castillo. That whole team leader Pierre thing didn't work out too well for us. Why didn't those same team leaders win the series for Boston in '05 and '06. Who was the leader for the White Sox in '05? Can we acquire him too?
  24. Probably wouldn't be too professional for a GM to say, "man what a terrible mistake on my part. That guy sucked out loud."
