  1. I'm not exactly sure which thread you think this would fit well in. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=45076
  2. I'm guessing the PTBNL hinges on Minnesota's ability to actually sign Monroe. Similar to the PTBNL tomfoolery when we got Barrett.
  3. Maybe if Baltimore wasn't such a ****hole he could find a woman to take back.
  4. Well no, I don't expect him to say that either. That would be a little extreme. I didn't think lowering fan expectations is a good thing. Are you saying it's good for Hendry to head off the booing because we're sure to suck? Why are we apparently not considering real improvements at the position? Maybe Jim should just come clean and tell us he can't get any money for improvements right now, so he'll do the best he can but don't expect too much in '08. That's the underlying message I'm getting, wouldn't you agree that's the way it's shaping up? Maybe Jim should be creative and when making a salary dump actually DUMP THE GD SALARY. If Hendry is forced to go into next year with the same payroll or only a minor bump, he coudl still improve the team by dumping off some salary, restructuring a couple contracts and trading for Tejada. But no, we're fine with Omar Infante, and the comfort in knowing that we made Jacque Jones happy.
  5. Yeah bad/good defense in LF is definitely the same as the difference between great/epicly bad defense at SS/3B. I don't trust defensive metrics that much, which is why I regress those numbers more than the offensive #s, but even with taking the offensive #s at a greater weight because of this, it's still a wash. It's insane to just toss out Tulowitzki's home numbers because he plays in Coors. I don't know how many times I can re-post the same thing, but every time the topic of a Colorado player or pick your player playing in a hitter's park, people seem to want to just take his road #s and say, there's his true hitting level. Beyond the Coors hangover effect that has been studied, there's the fact that hitters hit better at home period. There was a 24 point difference in OPS between home/road games for the NL this year. (Braun was 80 points better at home) Let's also add in the fact that Tulowitzki doesn't get to play any road games at Coors field. Again, I don't think it's a slam dunk for Tulo, but I would've voted for him.
  6. That other winter Ronny was to learn how to play 2nd in winter ball. I remember that...day.
  7. awesome.
  8. Sounds like fun, make up a room for me, I'll be in round 10 AM
  9. If you don't re-sign Wood with Dempster already going to the rotation makes the bullpen a little thin in quality arms. Suddenly you have a bullpen of Marmol, Howry, Wuertz, Eyre, Hart, Ohman?, and then still 1 more guy. That's a lot of question marks at the back of the bullpen. At the same time, 5 mil for Wood is awfully steep. Spending legit money beyond the top 3 guys in the pen is a waste. It's hard enough to get value when spending money on any bullpen guy. Spending big money to upgrade the 6th inning guy is like spending big money on a bench guy.
  10. Apropos of nothing I talked to Brandon Hassel of Penn St. for a half hour outside of the McDonald's in Penn St. at about 3 AM. Pretty cool guy.
  11. Yes, those THREE blown saves he had last year were horrible. Especially in comparison to his TWENTY EIGHT converted saves. Dempster isn't that bad. How many of those 28 did he come in with a 2 or more run lead and then give up a run (or two)? 5, 1 of those being a sole unearned run. As evidenced by Todd Jones, closers cost way too much to be wasting money on fixing a problem that isn't that glaring. If Lou maximizes his bullpen leverage using the best pitchers in the more important spots, I have no problem bringing in Dempster to get 3 outs in the 9th with nobody on base. (I'd probably prefer to dump his salary to make room for Tejada while filling the closer spot internally)
  12. Tulo rates out as one of the best fielders in baseball. Braun rates out as worse than present day Ron Santo.
  13. And Kyle Hudson. So frustrating that we should be pretty much locked into a BCS right now.
  14. I think it shoulda been Tulo, but either one is defensible.
  15. Maybe they have already agreed to a deal and are waiting until Wednesday (the first day he can be signed) to announce it? Actually teams cannot discuss money with free agents other than their own until tomorrow. I don't think that's true with free agents who didn't end the year with a major league team.
  16. And count me as somebody who would non-tender Infante. I know it's not realistic, but it's what I'd do. Ronny Cedeno is now in Matt Murton territory. Just trade the poor kid.
  17. LOL! $50,000 on the under on that one, please. Thames hit 18 in less than half a season last year. Jones will probably not hit only 5 HRs again next year.
  18. There has to be a reference to the World Champion Red Sox. I.e., "..he gives us speed, like Ellsbury.." Or, "he's versatile, like Youkilis.." Dont forget: "He drove in runs while striking out over 100 times!" "He was an great player in 2004!" "We felt it was time to move Jacque some place where he will be happy. We like Jacque as a person, we just felt it was the right time to part ways." Way too few "obviously"s in there.
  19. The problem is how little salary relief we wind up with. Somebody would take Jones for 1/5.5 Instead at bare minimum we're saving 3.5M, and with the report we're chipping in money, I bet they split the difference and we save less than 2M. When Miguel Tejada isn't wearing Cub pinstripes on opening day, this(along with other stupid signgings/trades to come) will be the reason we couldn't afford him. It's like he's learned nothing in the past 5 years.
  20. Madness. Do you really hate Ronny Cedeno that much that you had to make a horrible trade to get rid of him? This trade is all about Hendry's middle infield fetish and his not bein comfortable with Ronny filling a role of playing in 40 games a year. Hendry must go.
  21. The reason A-rod was offering to forfeit money to go to Boston or New York a few years ago: Cause he's in it for the money.
