  1. I liked Houston the couple of times I've been there, never been to Oakland, just know its status as white trashville.
  2. Isn't Theo's reasoning for not starting a guy in the majors on Opening Day to avoid the pressure of Opening Day or some such nonsense? How would somebody being from a different country as a rookie help to bring less pressure? Theo is the one who stated he has never brought up a rookie on opening day. Not Pedroia, not Ellsbury, not Youkilis, etc... He has started a foreign player on opening day, maybe Dice-K? I really don't know how that relates to his "pressure situations" argument, but I would agree that a foreign player has way more pressure than a minor leaguer getting his first major league start. Theo can argue that the major league contract pretty much ensures they have to start them at the big league level. A major league contract does nothing of the sort. Matsuzaka and Okajima both made Opening Day rosters, though only Okajima pitched in his first game on Opening Day
  3. I can't believe Rickey never did that. ETA: 1 BB shy in '85. Other close ones: Bonds was 7 BBs shy in '90 Cobb was 3 XBH shy in '15
  4. On the scale of things to have to watch repeatedly with your children, I'd imagine Disney movies are somewhere around the best.
  5. So I guess the logical conclusion is that they think it's higher than 0.001%. It's not nearly as clear-cut as some fans want to believe. That is only the logical conclusion if the Cubs actually do wait beyond the point where they no longer technically "have to" wait. To see some people's misguided interpretations of the CBA, they shouldn't have to do anything, they could say "we're keeping him down to gain an extra year of service, so stick it."

  7. Granted we're dealing with small sample sizes all over the place, but I really doubt being 10th lowest in IF Pops would negate the 6th lowest LD%
  8. Oh, did you know him in college?
  9. That has happened pretty much every time I've gone to the bathroom there. It's better for you because you can walk to the end while people wait 10 deep for a spot in the first trough.
  10. City that happens to contain a baseball team.
  11. Eh, I softened on it after I went there for the MVC Tournament/Bachelor party. It's bad, but Cincinnati, blech.
  12. It is a little strange for him to have one appearance in 5 games, but I guess they'll be keeping him on roughly starters rest and pitch him for 2-3 innings per appearance? Seems strange to not just have him start those games and throw that. I dunno, I stopped expecting him to be a starter a while ago, so it doesn't bother me.
  13. Probably about as good as we can hope.
  14. I've assumed all along it'd be next Friday, but the injuries may force him up for the Pirates series.
  15. Milwaukee has to be in the running there. The people are the difference. Wisconsinites share more similarities to Chicagoans on the surface, they are more relatable even though we are born to hate them. People from Cincinnati are a weird mutant combination of the north, the south and appalachia. Yep, it's the Appalachia that gets me. Milwaukee people are fat idiot slobs, but at least they're not basically Kentuckians.
  16. Milwaukee has to be in the running there. Beertown may be shocked to hear this, but I'm not sure it's worse than Cincy. I would think Cincy, Milwaukee, Cleveland, and Oakland have to be the only ones in the running right? I know a lot of people hate Houston, but it's not close for me. ETA: And Detroit
  17. Is Cincinnati the worst major league city to visit?
  18. Wait, are we not excited about the start? I don't get it?
  19. What a weird time for a "you guys hate everything" rant As the entire board is euphoric over the 4-2 start. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. SAY BAEZ WILL BE AWESOME TOO OR GTFO It's ok GR, Theo didn't draft Baez, so you can still keep your enlightened fan card if you don't like that he Ks twice an AB.
  20. That grand slam in the meaningless game vs. the Mets. Weren't even trying in that game and we destroyed them.
  21. He was bad in 2010 before injuring his knee. Then it took him 3 more bad years before he was over a torn meniscus?
  22. LET'S GET SOME...HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT BRUCE FROEMMING LATELY!!!
  23. Earl Weaver for me.
