Isn't Theo's reasoning for not starting a guy in the majors on Opening Day to avoid the pressure of Opening Day or some such nonsense? How would somebody being from a different country as a rookie help to bring less pressure? Theo is the one who stated he has never brought up a rookie on opening day. Not Pedroia, not Ellsbury, not Youkilis, etc... He has started a foreign player on opening day, maybe Dice-K? I really don't know how that relates to his "pressure situations" argument, but I would agree that a foreign player has way more pressure than a minor leaguer getting his first major league start. Theo can argue that the major league contract pretty much ensures they have to start them at the big league level. A major league contract does nothing of the sort. Matsuzaka and Okajima both made Opening Day rosters, though only Okajima pitched in his first game on Opening Day
