  1. I actually find that kind of depressing. me and you both. I always liked Barrett, he seemed like a cool guy and I think he was really proud to be a part of the cubs. That said, I'm so much happier with Soto behind the plate. Yeah, I really liked Barrett. I'm ecstatic Soto's become GEOVANY SOTO, but it's sad that things didn't work out for Barrett.
  2. No, in fact this seems to be the only reason so many people hate him.
  3. I hate Jerry Reinsdorf because he's a bad human being, not cause he's cheap.
  4. Seems like a fit for the Tigers.
  5. ugh, i hate this line of reasoning. it's innings that matter, not days. Well there is the leverage factor, but very few managers leverage their best reliever properly to maximize his value. That and there's only so much leverage to go around, so even at peak usage(which would never happen), you'd be stretching it to get 2 of your relievers worth that of 2 starters.
  6. Next year every NHL team will play every other NHL team. This year wasn't the case (and many, many people complained about it). Even in the NBA, though, the schedules are hardly balanced. Even funnier than the schedule argument is Selig's argument of "Well, it's nice to know ahead of time where to reserve hotels and such for the World Series, and that's why we can't just let whichever team that has the best record get HFA" that he tried to pull a couple years ago. That excuse was just mind-numbing. It was even worse that several media idiots ran with it as true. It takes about 3 seconds of thinking to realize how wrong he is on that.
  7. I'm not arguing in favor of THIS TIME IT COUNTS, just saying that there is some sort of basis behind it unlike NHL and NBA where every team plays every other team(A guess on NHL) Sure it's unbalanced, but at least there's some competition. Personally, I think if they're not going to do it by overall record, that league interleague record might be a better call.
  8. It was somewhat explainable for the world series cause the teams played a different set of opponents all year.
  9. No wonder they make no sense when they can't understand the basics. Non-Save Appearances--11 Saves-16 Blown Saves -4 Save %-75% That's an 80% rate.
  10. As I mentioned earlier the West had HFA in '85 as well.
  11. Wow. He's worked 3 consecutive days at least twice. He has just 1 save in a 3+ run lead. And he has more IP than any closer in the league (exception for Torres, who became a closer less than 2 weeks ago). Lou is actually working him in non-save situations much more than necessary, given how many save situations we have. You just pull this stuff out of your ass, don't you? Do everyone a favor..watch the language. I know you think it's funny to be real brave to and say things like that, but it's not. I'm by no means a prude, but children read this and we need to be grown-ups. Out of Wood's 16 saves and 4 blown saves-11 are 1-2 run lead and 5 are 3+run leads. Those games are: April 3 Save #1 May 6-Save #5 May 15-Save #8 May 16-Save #9 June 3-Save #16 Now that we've settled that..please kerry on. That only added up to 16. It's pretty obvious he misinterpreted what you wrote to mean a more than 3 run lead. Are you going to take back your comment about not having a lot of close leads now that you've shown he has 11 saves with 1-2 run leads?
  12. The difference in Crawford and Soriano's plate discipline is that Soriano hits HRs. You can just tell by looking at the way Pie acts what he thinks. Like that mental midget Rich Hill.
  13. The lights thing is a myth. HFA alternated between West and East back then. I wanna say 85 was the first year they switched to best record. Not true. '84 was the East's year for HFA, but they didn't let the Cubs have it because they couldn't have any night games. '89 was still alternating, and that year was the West's turn (The Cubs finished 93-69, while the Giants finished 92-70, but the Giants got HFA). Wrong on both accounts. '82's NLCS went 2 in St. Louis, then 1 in Atlanta(setup was 2-3). '83's went 2 in LA, then 2 in Philly(again 2-3). '89 went 2 in Chicago, 3 in San Francisco(set up was 2-3-2) I can't really figure out how HFA was determine after '84 as the West had it in '85 and '86, both years with inferior overall records. Head to head maybe?

  15. Haha, most random way to start a brawl. Kudos to Torrealba and Kemp. details?
  16. Ya know I really don't want to have to get out of bed and go out and turn the TV on again.
  17. They showed a picture on the broadcast of Kasper with Brenly's mustache, and Brenly without one.(They mentioned yesterday how they'd shave/grow facial hair if they won 10 straight) The idea was brought up in (I think) yesterday's game thread.
  18. So the photoshop wasn't done by somebody on here? Disappointing.
  19. If it's a close game and you're in the bullpen, a good manager changes pitchers as often as possible by definition It's called playing the percentages. It's what good managers do. What do they do with three run leads? http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280603125_Cubs_Padres_79720996_lbig.png CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK

  21. Wuertz time. I'm always in favor of letting the pitcher hit when you're going to pull him anyway. I think we're a little short on the bench with Fukudome unavailable and 13 pitchers. Miles claims Fukudome is available, didn't he? He did. Eyre better pitch the flippin 7th.
  22. Cedeno woulda made that play walking on his hands.
  23. no kidding. i walk around like a zombie during these west coast weeks. I went with the post dinner til 10 PM nap yesterday.
