  1. Trevor Hoffman kinda sucks these days.
  2. I think the problem everyone has with this possibility is why is Edmonds more likely to give out advice than somebody else? Just because Edmonds is old doesn't mean he's more likely to give out good advice than someone who isn't. Lenny Harris seems to have a hitting coach job solely on the basis that he's old and played baseball for a long time, and he's out there ruining everyone's career by giving out his advice.
  3. Explanation for those following gamecast which is utterly confused right now?
  4. Cmmmon Pads pen. With Sheets facing at least 8 guys here, he's gotta be up over 110 pitches.
  5. So since they won't make the playoffs they'll just get the terrible regular season #s from him. I'm game. I think Washburn is signed for next year for way too much too. I am all about this move, get it done MO!!
  6. Kosuke Soriano Edmonds Lee Reed Johnson Worst: Theriot
  7. Because of the timing of the question, I'd bet Derrek Lee is on there.
  8. When Geo struck out like 24 times in a row against the Nationals he wasn't pressing to impress people, he just wasn't seeing the ball well, and struck out a lot against crappy pitchers. It happens.
  9. Where did I say that? Speaking of patently false. The discussion is about how their playoff experience didn't calm them in last year's playoffs. Going into last year's playoffs, they hadn't struggled. You're saying that Ramirez has struggled in the postseason is irrelevant because he hadn't struggled going in. I don't even know why I'm bothering arguing about this anyway. The sample sizes on all of these playoff numbers are way too small to carry any weight. Especially since they're in my favor. My point was that Edmonds had success both at the plate and winning the WS and it MAY have a possible good influence on the Cubs as a team in the playoffs. I've heard players mention that player X helped me with this or Player Y helped them with this, why can't it be possible that Edmonds might be able to recognize something and help another player out? Also, that said player might be more apt to listen to him since he has won before? IMO, the mental part of the game is even more important in the playoffs, especially with all the extra curricular things that go on. The point is why wasn't Ramirez a calming influence in the clubhouse last year with his postseason success? Why wasn't Lee a calming influence due to his world series ring?
  10. It seems disingenous to say Ramirez wasn't any good in the postseason and that's why he did poorly last year in the playoffs when his numbers postseason #s heading into the AZ series were ~365 OBP, ~590 SLG.
  11. But when you're only stealing at a 62% rate it's not worth the risk of running into an out when you have your power hitters coming up behind him.
  12. That's a bad SB%. His rankins in ABs and PAs just says that he's played a lot and hit quite a bit at the top of the order. That says nothing about where he should hit. I don't understand why guys want leadoff men and 2 hitters to steal when you have your power hitters coming up behind them. Steals make more sense to me when you have a singles hitter coming up behind them. Why try and steal 2nd when Ramirez woulda doubled you in from first anyway? Yes Theriot's OBP has been great this year, and he does take a walk and hit for a high average. Most seasons, he'd be a great option for us at the top of the order. This year, we're lucky enough that we have superior options who bring more than OBP to the top of the order, and lucky enough that Theriot's OBP in the 8 hole can still bring some real value to the team because we have a power hitter hitting 1st, and our #2 hitter isn't some slug who's up there to hit the ball to the right side.
  13. I don't want 2 of our lower half hitters hitting 1-2. I'm fine with how the lineup is now. It's hard to screw up a lineup as consistent as we have. What does 'lower half hitters' mean? As in not one of the best 4 hitters on our team. Riot should hit either 1 or 2. He is a single machine. Why does being a singles machine mean he should hit 1 or 2? I think he's best served to hit 8, where he can be bunted into scoring position by our bad hitting pitchers, or possibly steal a base for our pitchers that can hit when there are 2 outs. Again, the lineup doesn't matter a lot considering how good each of our hitters are, but I see no reason to give the most ABs per game to Theriot, DeRosa, or Kosuke.

  15. The Phillies weren't as bad as 7.5 games out of first after early June last year. And last year's Phillies team was better than this year's Cardinals. And this year's Cubs team is better than last year's Mets team.
  16. Uhh yeah, it was hilarious enough when people were following the Astros earlier in the year. Following them now when they're about 28 games behind us is just nonsensical. Although so is following the Cards. (4%)

  18. I hope you marry her and, several years into your marriage, the resentment from this boils over and instigates a messy, bitter divorce. We went back and I got the oreos. She didn't like them. I was expecting something a little more heavenly, but they were still good. I think her bad attitude dragged down the experience for me.
  19. I'm not sure that is still the way waiver claims are made, at least according to this: Not sure if it's right or not. I sorta retracted that later on when I read conflicting opinions on that. I'm kinda thinking it does still go by league.
  20. I'm thinking they don't want to use Marshall today in order to get him on schedule for Sunday. Probably an inning or 2 on his normal throw on the side day
  21. I think you guys are making a big deal out of it cause it's Chip. Bandwagon is a pretty general term.
  22. I get that...and I've acknowledged that risk of injury is a great reason for not sliding into first. I'm simply arguing the merits (or lack thereof) of the "you get there faster by running through the base" myth/fact. I think it'd help to stop using the word slide. It's distracting becuase sliding clearly doesn't make a guy get there faster(intense scientific studies aside) I can accept a debate over diving into the base, not sliding.
  23. Definitely. Owings alone is probably worth more than the picks.
