  1. Because Wood is faster and could have scored from 1st on a hit more easily. Rizzo's steals come from the pitcher completely ignoring him so he gets a running start to take advantage. And it was such a specific situation where Wood scores and Rizzo doesn't that it wasn't worth losing your best hitter. Yes? There were 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th of a 1 run game, the odds of that spot getting another plate appearance were very low. Not that it was a no-brainer decision, but I was more answering the why of your initial question, which seemed to imply Rizzo's steals meaning more for his baserunning ability than it actually is. I literally said they don't tell the whole story, but I don't think Rizzo studied under Davey Lopes this offseason and figured out how to get in pitchers' heads. My point is Rizzo isn't slow, and Wood isn't particularly fast. So you have a pitcher running the bases, hoping for the exact situation where only he would score and not Rizzo, and then going to play the bottom of the 9th+ in the field, removing your best hitter assuming 1 is all you score. Just seemed to be getting too cute. Wasn't crazy about Herrera pinch running yesterday either, but at least Montero is a catcher, and Herrera is an actual position player.

  3. Makes sense to see it fluctuate so wildly. We've played so few games, then we added 3 games against the worst team in baseball. ETA: We're now up to 10th after adding just 1 game against the best record in baseball. Basically these numbers are meaningless.
  4. I know steals don't tell the whole story, but...why did we have Travis Wood pinch run for him again?
  5. Yeah, Bulls fans are basically the epitome of terrified Chicago fans; I don't know what David is talking about. ina town with cubs fans and bears fans, i have no idea how you can say that we won 6 championships. the bulls are the only team i don't visualize the most improbable terrible things happening even in the best situations with and they're the only team i ever had the feeling of not doubting that they'd ultimately prevail. Yeah, next time the 1998 Bulls play, the fans will probably be supremely confident yeah, the history of the teams has nothing to do with what we're talking about seriously you guys are insane if you think bulls fans are somehow better examples of this nonsense than bears or cubs fans Bulls fans at the UC only aren't fatalist because they do not care at all about what's going on the court.

  7. That guy is a hero. Also: nice shorts, Cardinals' staff. Roast's fannypack looks dignified by comparison. fupapack
  8. it wouldn't kill us, but i do honestly believe it would completely cease to be fun during the games. basically they all have to be 03 nlcs games 2 and 4 for that not to be the case Big Chicago games mostly suck; the home fans always seem terrified of everything going wrong and everything is insanely nervous and tense and not fun at all. Though I can't speak for hockey fans; those animals are probably [expletive] in the seats and drinking paint thinner. except bulls Bulls fans do get terrified that they won't get to 100 so they can stuff their fat [expletive] faces with Big Macs
  9. We now have Herrera, Ross, Lake, and the pitcher spot in our lineup.
  10. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=16,a Not poopy Huh. So the bullpen woes everyone keeps complaining about are mostly just a heaping helping of BABIP variance? All of our pitchers have been BABIPed to death so far. I've never seen so many seeing eye ground balls in my life. The Arrietta start against the Reds may have been the worst. maybe maddon's positioning just [expletive] sucks Bring back Sveum
  11. Billy Beane is a wizard I'm pretty sure he's going to end up with some 7 WAR superstar out of that trade with the White Sox just because 8/24/11 It's kind of amazing what he's done. He just kinda wandered around for a few years, and now just rebuilds his team on a yearly basis. It's remarkable.
  12. The Bulls have the Heat's number!
  13. I'd say the Rays are the model on how to not ever giving up on competing even with a payroll of pennies. Now the Brewers aren't in their position, but I don't see a lot separating the current Brewers from the A's as they entered 2011.
  14. Get a load of this [expletive] guy over here You should edit the title to add "No TT's allowed" Edit: Nevermind if you read that out loud it sounds like you are banning something else that I am not in support of banning. But you let in TT Glumplich!
  15. What is half try? I wouldn't define any of those examples as franchises that "half tried" More varying degress of bad-awful management/ownership
  16. Or you could record the Cubs game and watch it as soon as the Bulls game is over. Or just flip to the Bulls game for the last 6 minutes.
  17. No team should ever need 5 years of losing in order to win again.
  18. Can't imagine getting fired after a win happens very often unless it's game 162
  19. Soto destroyed pitchers for his first 7 months in the majors so it makes sense to equate him to rookies struggling early on
  20. I thought it was May 10 or 11 May 11th is first game any of the bleachers are schedule to be open. Cubs have yet to release any tickets for them, so I'll assume they'll be rolling with just season tickets for Nights & Weekends at least. I'm curious if they'll do a general onsale for weekday games though. ETA: Nevermind, May 14th Thursday day game is now on sale. ETAA: Hmmmm Sunday, May 31st is available as well, so I wonder if there are a handful available and the others are already sold out, or if they're actually ahead of schedule?
  21. which is a tad weird you guys seem to think he's koyie hill or something. His OPS vs. righties the last 2 years was lower than Koyie's career #s.
