  1. Oh good, Terrelle Pryor is now equivalent to Shaq and Lebron.
  2. Are you talking about the Illinois game? If you are I thought that call was crap too. It's football for God's sake. Yes, and the announcers defending the call just pisses me off even more, saying the WR wasn't going for the ball as he is clearly looking and reaching for the ball that is falling from the air within a couple yards of him. He certainly wasn't going to catch it, but there's no way for the Illinois defender to know that.
  3. Pardon me for being Sulley but that is not a effing penalty. The ball was falling after the tip and the WR went to reach for it.
  4. Zook just had a really tough call to make. I think I agreed with it, but wanted to see what people thought. Illinois set up in FG formation for a 55 yarder, they quick kicked and downed the ball inside the OSU 1. OSU was flagged for a penalty on the play which would then set up a potential 50 yard FG. Illinois declined and gave OSU the ball inside the 1 instead. Now we did have the wind at our back, and our kicker had hit a 44(I think) yarder earlier with the wind fairly easily. But I'm a big fan of burying a team in their own territory. Thoughts?
  5. lol i had a higher opinion of ssr before just now Dammit. I don't have sigs or avatars and I'm watching 3 football games.
  6. I think IU fans are being a bit overzealous thinking they'll be back in the tournament next year. The recruiting class for this year was mediocre and only registerred in rankings because of the size. Next year's is pretty good, but it'll fall in rankings when the late signings come in. You have to think about how far up you're going to have to climb in the '09-'10 season. That and by '09-'10 it's going to be a much better big ten than this season with Purdue, MSU, Wisconsin, OSU, Minnesota, and Illinois all pretty safe bets to finish better. The only teams I'd feel comfortable betting on IU finishing ahead of are NU and PSU(I'm lending some credence to the Iowa people's system idea here)I think an NIT bid is a more realistic goal with eyes on the tourney in '11.
  7. oh man, i want to think you are joking Exactly what part do you think I would be joking about? that theriot, by himself, would get peavy much less both of them This is why you're not a GM. You don't know how to think like a GM. for the record, i'm with B. I know hendry doesn't want to give up our most valuable pieces, but if we're going to get value we got to give up value. id be willing to part with theriot for a difference maker I'm with B that I'd certainly give up Theriot for Peavy. I'm nowhere close to B in thinking that Theriot is a 1. Top flight SS 2. Enough to get Peavy by himself(Greene isn't important he probably has slightly negative value)
  8. Oh God, I want nothing to do with Oliver Perez. Why? He's a middle of the rotation starter with the potential to be a top of the rotation starter, espec. under Rothschild, he's the perfect fit for Larry and would become the lefty version of Matt Clement, IMO. I think he's a mediocre starter, and that's not what we should be spending money on. He hasn't had a season worth the 8 figures per year he's going to get since '04.(His much better than average ERA with the Mets came with 20 UER. I don't see Lou being a huge fan of him walking 100 guys a season either.
  9. Oh God, I want nothing to do with Oliver Perez.
  10. I feel he deserves a multi-year deal and would tell him to look for that elsewhere for his own good.
  11. i just don't see iowa being relevant in any big ten discussion. if it happens, i'll be extremely surprised. there are just other teams that have more going for themselves. I really think that it will be OSU and Illinois going for it in a few years. They are both going to be loaded. But, I also think that Purdue, Wisky, MSU, and even Minnesota will be pretty goodd again.s exciting to have the big ten getting good again. i think purdue is there to stay, i think msu is going nowhere, osu gets every single good player on earth, wisco will continue to contend with whomever they bring in and they're fairly loaded with incoming players, and minnesota is absolutely on their way back up in terms of recruiting. there just isn't any room for iowa at the table, although it would be good for the big ten. As much as I hate to say it Indiana will be back sometime in the next three years or so. Crean can recruit and a lot of players seem to be in on the rebuilding/restoring IU idea. As I told my roommates last year the Big Ten is ridiculous right now with its coaches especially recruiting wise. Tubby, Painter, Matta, Crean, Weber, Beilein, Izzo and Ryan are considered great recruiters and winning coaches. Crean has assembled a Top 10 class for 2009 thus far. I expect us to be a factor next season. I think you're aiming a bit too high/too soon to expect your '09 class to turn a last place team into a contender. IU should be shooting for a tourney bid next year, that's about it. And there's certainly no shame in that considering where you're coming from.
  12. Filing for free agency doesn't mean he wasn't willing to come back here. He's allowed to at least keep his options open as a fallback just in case. Filing for free agency doesn't mean he HAD to negotiate with anyone but the Cubs. It was just that the option was there for him in case the Cubs didn't want him. My point is that if Kerry really means that he'd have done anything to stay here, he shouldn't have filed. After sitting on his comments all day long, something about them just doesn't feel right to me. We'll see. I'd say there's about a 99.9% chance the Cubs offer arby. If Wood really means it, he'll accept. I somewhat agree, but there is a "we don't want you here" factor involved. When somebody tells you flat out that you're not wanted, do you really want to come back there? I'll definitely soften my stance towards Hendry if he offers arb and Woody declines, but I'm not going to absolve him from all guilt for the way he handled it. One could argue that this was part of the reasoning for telling Wood to look elsewhere to make sure he wouldn't accept the arb. We've seen arbitration tomfoolery in the past going the other way when Grace told the Cubs flat out he would accept whatever they offered him; Lynch didn't offer and after king of the douchebags signed with Arizona he said he only said it so his new team wouldn't lose a pick. It's sports, it's a dirty business, and I see no reason why I'm supposed to take Jim Hendry at his word over Kerry Wood.
  13. C'mon this is unreasonable. If we really want to extend this to its literal meaning we would say that Kerry would gladly pay Jim Hendry 1M out of his own pocket if he was truly willing to "do anything." I think it's pretty obvious that he's saying he'd do plenty within reason to come back to the Cubs and for whatever reason Hendry rebuffed him.
  14. LAWL at Billy Clyde.
  15. VMI up 7 with 33 seconds left.
  16. Matt Gatens in a 20 minute sample is as good as advertised by the Iowa fans here.
  17. Oh, and Iowa's team is whiter than rice.
  18. VMI was just up like 17 on Kentucky, and now it's 6. Wonder if the game being in Lexington has anything to do with that. Oh well, woulda been fun. This bigtennetwork.com stream is awful btw. They better upgrade this sh soon.
  19. With the way Lou is, I just can't imagine him sticking with gregg as the closer as he's walking guys non-stop. I know Marmol walks a lot of guy's too, but he has the K's and the ability to not give up hits to make up for it. I could see Gregg walking 2 guys and then serving up a 3 run bomb in a save opp in ST and Lou saying "that's it, Marmol is closing" I can't wait til Lou's "I'm screaming about Will Ohman walking a couple guys, but I'm making it sound general" rant about Kevin Gregg. This should be next year's prediction contest tiebreaker. (Like I'll need to win on a tie. Again.)
  20. What was lost in doing that? Respect. He basically said to every other GM out there that he can be jerked around for months and you won't lose him Do you really think Hendry lost respect among other GM's because he has not satisfied your media obligation in telling you everything that is going on? Wait, what did I ever say about him not tleling us stuff? All I'm saying is that it's not a good example to set that you can be haggled for 5 months and not walk away Well part of the reason that all of us(except for David) are freaking out right now is because he refused to haggle and walked away prematurely. I'd rather a GM stay in a conversation too long than walk away too soon. I'm pretty sure he wasn't in danger of walking away too soon when they were still discussing Roberts into spring training Anyways, what Wren said doesn't automatically mean he's walking away So if you don't think Wren is walking away, what is he doing differently than Hendry other than announcing to the media that he will look at other pitchers. It's already been reported that Hendry is doing the same. And if everyone could stop making me defend Hendry on the day this quote from Wood came out that would be aces.
  21. If the Cubs had Wood on a 1 year deal, they should trade Gregg for whatever. Don't compound the stupid trade to get him, by keeping him around to play an unimportant role for 5M.
  22. What was lost in doing that? Respect. 23. Jim Hendry(or possibly Lou) think Kerry's a health risk and are throwing a tantrum about the 3 weeks he was on the DL this season. Because of this they didn't want him back under most any circumstances. This is my out of my ass theory. Basically they're playing the role of the moron Cub fans who want to get over Prior/Wood. If that was true then they wouldn't have re-signed him after 2007 True, I don't have an effin clue.
  24. What was lost in doing that? Respect. He basically said to every other GM out there that he can be jerked around for months and you won't lose him Like how Beane jerked him around over Harden? Or did Jim just bowl him over with his exorbitant offer that Beane had to say yes? And Beinfest's puppet in Florida?
