  1. Everyone here SO overrates our prospects. Understandable, but not being objective. You need to look at these guys from OTHER team's perspectives for once. Nolasco--low Top 10 Cub prospect. Ceiling is as a projected #4 starter. Two plus pitches, but nothing dominating. Failed miserably his first time at AAA. Good control, but if he doesn't pinpoint his spots, he can get hit hard. Pinto--borderline Top 10 Cub prospect. Electric stuff, lefty and young. But extremely wild, and has made little progress in harnessing his control. Hit very hard his first time in AAA, has not looked good in winter ball this year. Ceiling is as a projected #3 starter, but if the control doesn't improve soon, the bullpen may be his eventual home. I have no problems giving up these two for a guy that can help your big league team right now, at a time of extreme duress, at a position they desperately need filled.
  2. Danny F. Jackson!! Todd "The Turd" Hundley. Bump Wills. Ron Cey. Kevin Tapani. Henry Rodriguez. Jaime Navarro. Randy Myers. Rod Beck. Candy Maldonado. Dave Smith. Jason Bere. Flash Gordon. Benito Santiago.
  3. Ha, yeah Hendry will pull off a trade for Miggy Cabrera, you bet. Unfortunately, Hendry is busy right now salivating over Jock Jones, Joey Gathright, and several other losers while downing his third box of Krispy Kremes on the day. Talk to the sig.
  4. Hehehe, Cards lose out on their man again. Their offseason isn't going any better than ours. Unfortunately, they started out as a much better team....
  5. I suggested JWill, Hill and Roberto Novoa for Abreu over a month ago. Glad to see such a combination is at least being discussed. Lofton not being tendered is not a surprise, Philadelphia has 5 OF-ers right now as it is. Or perhaps you have forgotten that they acquired Aaron Rowand for Jim Thome. JWill, Hill, Novoa, fer cryin' out loud, DO IT!!
  6. Philly won't offer arbitration to Lofton, so there's no reason for anyone to sign him right now, doing so would simply be wasting a draft pick. Once the deadline passes, then you'll see teams start picking up some of the less desirable free agents like Lofton, Burnitz, Encarnacion and the like.
  7. link Maybe the Cubs can swoop in and give them what they want without the complication of three teams. Don't hold your breath. Most of the Cubs "prospects" are "untouchable", haven't you heard? Oh, but Hendry thinks he's going to get something of value for Fez and Welly, cool huh?
  8. I haven't been keeping up on any Sammy Sosa news, anything regarding what will become of him? Is he heading to Japan? Since 2006 is looking like a lost cause anyway, why can't the Cubs bring him back for a swan song and let him retire with some dignity. He can't be any worse than John Mabry, who as things stand today, is the Cubs starting RF.
  9. Hendry is a total moran. Hill won't pitch for the Cubs because he's not good enough to pitch over Glendon Rusch (according to the Cubs). But Hill is "untouchable" nonetheless. Despite the team having three GAPING holes in the everyday lineup. Is anyone still on the Jim Hendry bandwagon? Anyone at all??
  10. What's wrong with this picture? Deivi Cruz: $800,000. Neifi Perez: $3,000,000. Discuss.
  11. Edwin Jackson has basically lost all of his prospect status, for whatever reason. That might not be enough right there. You apparently don't know who Joel Guzman is.
  12. Zito for Bradley, Joel Guzman and Edwin Jackson is more like it.
  13. I JUST HOPE WE DON'T TRADE AWAY JOSE MACIAS, FOR GAWD'S SAKE, HE IS SO USEFUL, KEEP THE GREMLIN, HE IS THE GLUE, DUDES
  14. Mitre + Nolasco for Kearns? Absolutely, I'm on board. Mitre stinks, and while Nolasco looks good to me, he rates below Guzman and maybe Pinto, too. And, Ricky DID fail miserably at AAA the first time. Good risk/reward trade. Kearns plays better when he plays every day, I really like the idea of Murton and Kearns in the OF. And yes, I know Kearns' numbers have fallen the last couple years, but he fought a couple nagging injuries, he was yanked around with the whole Cincy surplus in the OF, etc... Do it.
  15. I agree. I've cooled on him. At this point, outside of Dunn or Abreu, I don't know who I want. The Trot Nixons/Kevin Menchs/Aubrey Huffs of the world just don't seem like nearly enough. A Mench/Nixon platoon would be awesome. Their splits cry out for a platoon. Combined, I could easily see them posting a 900+ OPS.
  16. Were you planning on including a link to the article you are referencing but forgot? Go to http://www.dailyherald.com, it's not that tough to figure out....
  17. I thought it interesting in the article that Hendry implies he does plan on keeping Hairston, it looks like he might be planning for a Hairston/Neifi platoon at 2B. Which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world so long as they're hitting 8th. My read was that the SS job is Cedeno's if they don't trade for Lugo. Good. Hendry doesn't come right out and say Patterson is finished here, but there's not much doubt from the tone. Ditto for Walker and Nomar. The disturbing thing to me is that Hendry never learns his lesson; he is yet AGAIN putting all his eggs in one basket, this time Juan Pierre. And no idea what the plan is for RF, Aubrey Huff, say it ain't so! Overall, things are looking pretty bleak, I hate to say.
  18. He IS a White Sox fan, you know this, yes, Yoda asks?
  19. Actually, I think Rogers is on target for once. Hendry bungled the Furcal and Pierre matters by not closing the deal early, when he had the chance. The Dodgers were a complete non-factor until 6 short days ago. He should have signed Furcal right after the infamous "dinner date." As for Pierre, Hendry could have closed that deal before Florida began their fire sale, Pierre wasn't in high demand then and Hendry simply would have parted with his precious, "untouchable" Rich Hill, he'd have Pierre in the bag. Too late now for Donut Boy. His tenure, along with the Dust Unit, can now be measured in months. The gloves are off, the natives are angry, and we will be second-rate yet again in 2006. But hey, at least we got Neifi signed early!! Goodness knows there was high demand for an all-star like that.
  20. 1. Takes value to get value. 2. Aramis helps even out the money--leaving plenty of cash for Hendry to still get the starting pitcher he covets. It depends on whether or not the Phillies are looking to save money. Considering that Blalock was locked up to a fairly cheap deal and could still manage a good degree of production in that extremely hitter-friendly park, I think the Phillies would most likely have interest in him. Also, A-Ram's second year opt-out might be problematic if the Phillies have interest in retaining Ramirez. But Abreu is signed for just two more years. Hey, I'd be more than willing to use Blalock instead, but I think it would now take more than that to net Abreu and the player cost might get too high. Doesn't really matter though, we all know Hendry won't do anything creative here. He'll trade for a couple mediocre players, sign one of the marginal FA pitchers like Jarrod Washburn, and call it an offseason. Ugh. Honestly, Hendry and Baker can't leave soon enough for me at this point. Time for a change.

  22. Yes, he has a NTC, but he can waive it. He might to Texas. Just a crazy idea here that would certainly shake things up-- Wood to Texas for Hank Blalock and a prospect Aramis Ramirez and a reliever (eg, Novoa) to Philly for Bobby Abreu I can't take credit for this trade idea, I read it on "another site", but I really like it. Philly has been looking for a 3B for years. I also like how the money would balance out some for us, Aramis 10MM vs. Abreu 14.5MM. And I still like Blalock, he's young and had a tough 2005, but he's better than that. You could even expand the deal some, maybe offer Jerome Williams and Todd Walker if Texas includes Soriano? That would help THEM balance out the $$ since Wood makes 11MM. And yes, I know Walker is probably better than Soriano, but Hendry apparently likes him, I'm just trying to figure scenarios that he might explore. Comments?
  23. If I'm Jim Hendry, I do NOT give up on trading for Bobby Abreu until the door is slammed in my face. Pie, Hill, Guzman, who do you want, Pat?? Wilkerson is a CF option for me, not RF. I don't want Bradley in RF, he's not nearly as valuable there. Must. Get. Abreu. Repeat after me.
  24. Rotoworld via WaPost speculates it was once Cedeno for Wilkerson, pre-Furcal signing, now it might be Williams for Wilkerson. I'd do that.
