  1. What makes it such a likely choice? And what evidence do we have that Theo believes he could turn Sandberg into an extension of the front office? Because Ryno wants the job, Cubs fans (most of them) want Ryno to have the job and Theo apparently likes him as a managerial material (he tried to hire him as the AAA manager)? And I used the caveat "unless he has someone in mind". Listen, I don't want to see Sandberg as manager one bit, but if I had to handicap the field, I'd put Ryno as the favorite. Not to get too far off this awesome threads track, but why is Ryno not wanted by many here? Seriously now, other than win, what's the problem?
  2. Gotta feel for Mike, though. He really was tossed into a situation where he was just a sac lamb. Now, I still think he is bad manager and he looked clearly in over his head this year. However, this has to be weighing on him, unless Ricketts has talked to him privately ala Jim Hendry.
  3. Yes, a bit. 8-) :yahoo:
  4. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.aolnews.com/media/2008/10/jim-hendry-smiling-180.jpghttp://media.trb.com/media/thumbnails/mp3file/2011-08/64231958-25075231-187105.JPG What a difference a year could make. :beg: http://mike100915.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/theo-epstein-cell.jpghttp://i.cdn.turner.com/si/2010/writers/tim_marchman/08/26/hof.managers/ryne-sandberg-ap2.jpg
  5. Multiple outlets, eh? Arguably. Listening to sports radio and it was mentioned (outlets, etc.) And yes, you could easily argue it.
  6. Mutiple outlets saying if Ricketts snags Theo and Sanberg, it will be arguably the biggest PR coup in sports history.
  7. They've done an outstanding job of drafting players since Epstein took over. They're willing to spend, plus they do a really nice job of finding diamond in the rough types. Yep. Which is exactly how Ricketts want to build this team.
  8. Rogers trying to douse our fire. Screw you, Phil. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/ct-spt-1012-rogers-gm-cubs-chicago--20111012,0,5669231.column
  9. Some of Epstein's farm gems: Lester, Pedroia, Papelbon, Youkilis, Bard and Jacoby Ellsbury. That's solid.
  10. Have these two threads reached more posts and views then the entire second half of game threads from the past 2011 season? :-s
  11. Matt Pepin @mattpep15 Boston Sports editor at Boston.com. Blockbuster on #RedSox coming tomorrow in Globe and on Boston.com and BostonGlobe.com. Don't miss it.
  12. If true, brilliant to snag Theo and brilliant of Theo to go after Ryno. The pieces are falling perfectly in place. But until it's official, no celebrating just yet.
  13. Ryne Sandberg? This can't be. He clearly is not the man for the job. Many posters on here told me so. Anyway, I am absolutely thrilled with this news. Ada boy, Tom. =D>
  14. From the Boston Herald article:
  15. And Ricketts will give him pretty much whatever he wants. If what Olney says is true, Epstein will be bleeding blue shortly.
  16. Kaplan with a ridiculous article. Geez, Kaplan, why don't you tell Theo to not even bother. http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/cubs-talk/post/Kaplan-Is-Epstein-ready-for-Chicago?blockID=575284&feedID=619
  17. As frustrating as this is, the more time that goes by, the more and more likely it is Epstein comes here. Boston brass and Epstein himself have had ample time to announce an extension or a statement that Theo is going to finish out his contract. The fact that we have heard neither can only be viewed as positive at this point from our perspective.
  18. @ScottMCBSSports Talked to two MLB execs who know Theo Epstein well. One predicts he stays and fixes #Red Sox mess. One predicts he goes to the #Cubs. Stayed tuned.
  19. I need to be more clear. When I say interesting, I mean from a standpoint that many feel that Henry will indeed want compensation and Starlin's name keeps coming up. The writer is merely suggesting if Castro were indeed traded, Reyes would be a guy that could replace him.
  20. Interesting article by NY Baseball digests Mike Silva. Purely speculative but a good read. http://nybaseballdigest.com/?p=40547&cpage=1
  21. Heyman: Epstein still the Red Sox GM, but rumors about the Cubs are swirling. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/jon_heyman/10/09/monday.scoop/
  22. MLB radio reports Esptein Contacted Jim Hendry last week to ask what it's like to work for Ricketts. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2011/10/cubs-gm-notes-a-theo-sighting-cherington-as-gm-of-the-red-sox/
  23. I still think Ricketts is going to get his man. Here is the latest from the Globe. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2011/10/uncertainty_rul.html
  24. And watch the Brewers win 4 playoff games to our 0. Man, Jim Hendry made a giant mess here.
