  1. I thought flame wars were not allowed here. I got reprimanded for metioning Sandberg (Cubsl related at least) in a Theo thread but it's ok to flame in the same thread?
  2. Author Seth Mnookin says Theo will not have the public expectations here and media attention like he did in Boston. I think Seth is smoking something if he thinks that. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2011/10/14/red_sox_cubs_negotiate_compensation_for_theo_epstein/ “It’s a double-edged sword for him, working in Boston,’’ Mnookin said. “He’s the only GM in the country who can’t have a peaceful dinner out if he wants. “Chicago won’t be the same. It won’t be the same story line in Chicago as it is in Boston. He won’t be the guy who grew up a few blocks from the ballpark. “The attention, the scrutiny, it won’t be a 365-day thing for him. There won’t be the public expectations and the media expectations.’’

  4. Umm, Can we get this done?
  5. Not sure if it's been posted but Cherington has been told he is Boston's new GM. http://eye-on-baseball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/32698143
  6. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/chi-epstein-knows-all-about-going-extra-mile-20111013,0,3767078.story I Heart Theo Me, too. Seriously, I feel as if the Cubs are a different team already and Theo has not made his first move yet. Could you ever see Hendry attempting to dive off the couch and pretend to block a kick?

  8. This is the most awesome article on Epstein. Man, what a difference a good hire makes. (Oh, and a good owner)!!! :good: http://www.sacbee.com/2011/10/12/3977865/former-boss-kevin-towers-raves.html
  9. Not sure if giving up on Vitters is the best idea. I still think he has a shot to be very good.
  10. Nice article on the Cubs in the NY Times. It goes over what Theo is inheriting. Cubs shelves thin, but not bare. http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/10/13/cubs-shelves-thin-not-bare/
  11. Theo: "How do you live with a player who has only 20 HR and 70RBI when he was signed to be a 30/100 guy? It has to be disappointing, right?" It's weird that you seem to understand stuff like this and still think Sandberg would be a good manager. I was going to go further but I don't want to start an off topic argument. Because I do not feel Ryno's comments should be taken as 100% truth in how he would run things (bunting, etc). I think when he says "play the game the right way" only means he expects guys to hustle and act like pros.
  12. http://www.csnchicago.com/sportsnetChicago/search/thumbnails/cached_media/0005/0005678/0005678251/images/thumb.jpg Theo: "How do you live with a player who has only 20 HR and 70RBI when he was signed to be a 30/100 guy? It has to be disappointing, right?"
  13. Yea, total baseball hard-on after that interview. Stresses: "Our Business model"
  14. Love the comments after the interview: "Theo is a pimp. And he just slapped these two hoes"
  15. Just would like to take a minute to tell all of the morons in the media (local and national) to go [expletive] yourselves. Despite your best efforts to make it seem like Chicago is not an attractive destination because of what a horribly run organization this was and the microscope Theo would be under, you lost. Kaplan (Granted, big Cubs fan but wrote an assanine article about the GM job here) Bowden Rosenbloom Olney And that's just to name a few. Again, [expletive] off! :hello:
  16. Crawford for Soriano \:D/
  17. That's not quite what he said. According to his source, Ricketts asked each of the top 3 or 4 GM candidates they interviewed who their manager might be, and none of them mentioned Sandberg. Thanks for the clarification. I picked it up mid stream and heard something that Ryno was not in the mix according to Levine and heard not even the top four. However, obviously Theo was part of this group and not a mention of Ryno.
  18. Levine was on Waddle and Silvy about half hour ago and he said that Sandberg is not in the mix from what he is being told from several sources. In fact, he is not even in the top four choices. Again, who the heck knows.
  19. Does anyone remember that crap pile our 2002 team was? The 2003 Cubs were picked to finish 3rd or 4th that year. Is our team a mess? In spots, sure. Can one good off season make us contenders? NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!
  20. It means the Red Sox won't be getting any good players. Oh wait, it's Gammons, the last coherent thought he had was about 6 years ago. http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/petergammons_290.jpg "My sources indicate I have no idea what I am talking about"
  21. Poster on SOSH; We have been that since the end of 08.
  22. It's been 3 years since I have been this excited about the Cubs. The 2008 season was really cool and then that playoff thing happened. It's nice to FINALLY get the top guy. How many times (from Carols Beltran to Rafael Furcal and Jake Peavy) have we heard the Cubs are the leading candidates to land the big prize, only to have it blow up? This is one of the biggest moves our franchise has ever made. We are getting a guy with vision and a track record of success. Just feeling really good right now.
  23. Updated: October 12, 2011, 12:08 AM ET. Espn Boston: Epstein Likely Gone: Theo Epstein is likely to move from the Red Sox to the Cubs, a well-placed source says. http://espn.go.com/boston/
  24. David Kaplan @thekapman Just talked with a Boston source who said Epstein has no issues with Fleita and Wilken being retained. Very high on both.
