  1. To be fair to the Cubs, I wouldn't necessarily call this a "misdiagnosis" because hairline fractures can be very difficult to discover. Sometimes a person doesn't even realize they have one or had one -- they just endure the pain (which can vary from moderate to severe). Nico probably started swinging the bat in light workouts and started noticing the pain from swinging in his wrist, but otherwise felt fine. This news sucks, but he should be fully healthy in like a month. Plenty of time left in the season at AA and we were never planning on calling him up this year. I also seriously doubt we'll include him in any trade package. That's the silver lining for me. Highly doubt he gets dealt for bullpen help now.
  2. He was a Rule V pick this past offseason, if memory serves me right.
  3. Fully agreed. Jones is the fastest player in the draft, and he posted videos on his Instagram with him having a vertical over 40 inches and a huge standing broad jump (couldn't make out the distance).
  4. Those ground outs, though! The velo is back up, only 1 walk and no wild pitches! There's hope for this guy yet! Now do it again... Don't do it to yourself. Albertos will break your heart.
  5. 0 HRs allowed is the biggest positive for me with Richan so far. That was his bugaboo in college. Very likely that he starts allowing them again once it heats up, but here's hoping he can keep avoiding them. ?? As a freshman sure, but he gave up 6 in his last 165+ innings at school. His knocks were not having high end velocity or stuff and being hittable (183 hits in those 165 and change innings)... 5 HRs allowed as a Junior while playing his games in the college equivalent of the FSL. That’s not good. But if you would rather I have said “hard contact allowed”, the point remains. Guys can get by with Richan’s mediocre stuff if they can induce weak contact. As one of his most outspoken critics on here, I was really skeptical that he could ever do that as a pro. So far, he’s doing an alright job.

  7. Was this posted about Nico yet? [tweet] [/tweet]
  8. .202/.304/.266/.570 in 309 PA in the Cape Cod League with the his second year being worse then the first is scary, Almost as scary as his K rate over 20% this year in college ball. Hard pass for me.
  9. I really want the high level scouts to be convinced that Greg Jones will hit, so he can be the pick. That speed would be really fun.
  10. That's exactly the vibe I got from Misner as well. His contact has absolutely cratered in SEC play.
  11. Fun with arbitrary sample sizes: Cole Roederer over his past 13 games (54 PAs) - .295/.389/.523 (158 wRC+)
  12. Zero expectations for this guy, but damn would that be fun if we was legit and made the big leagues.
  13. Maybe I should stop posting their mock drafts because I seriously doubt the Cubs (and their scouts) are targeting a HS pitcher with their 1st round pick. It doesn't fit their MO. A bunch of good hitters are still available: Shewmake, Wilson and Hoese (who I don't really like). Yeah, I see an extremely small chance of that happening. I can't make up my mind on Hoese. I've seen some video and I don't love the swing, but it's not horrendous. Wilson is my least favorite out of those 3. He doesn't make enough contact.
  14. I don't think there were any breaks or anything, which is the "not serious" part. But there still can be ample bruising and swelling, which would prevent him from resuming baseball activities. He was still in a soft cast fairly recently.
  15. Shewmake went 31 and Hoese 32 in this mock. Has anyone gotten any looks at this kid? Otherworldy stats, but Kiley said he has a really long swing and feasts against weak competition.
  16. Have we seen an IFA go straight to SS ball the following summer? I think Gleyber may have gotten a cup of coffee up there in that first summer, but I know he spent a good chuck of time in AZ.
  17. I had not realized that the PCL was treating Swarmer so poorly in his first couple starts. Ouch.
  18. Cory Abbott continues to plug away with another quality start. 6 IP, 6H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 Ks. Not as flashy as his past 2 starts, but this is his first time making it a full 6 innings.
  19. I see Shea Langeliers keeps dropping. That would be a really nice pickup, IMO.
  20. Look elsewhere for bullpen reinforcements, methinks.
  21. I'm just as impressed with the matching 12.3% BB rate in the early going for him. He didn't walk much at all in college, and I was hoping he wasn't going to be a guy like Almora who can make contact early and never takes walks. 169 wRC+ in the early going for Nico.
  22. He would be a great guy to be able to get as an overslot in the 2nd or 3rd round, but I'm sure he will be gobbled up by then.
  23. .317/.364/.439 (136 wRC+) I'm really hoping that K rate reduction is legit. Obviously not "under 10% legit", but if he could be around 15%? That would be impressive. Then the coaches just need to find a way to tap into the above average raw power.
  24. For sure. I never get too excited about pitching prospects until they are in AA, but it never hurts to have dudes in the lower minors to follow. Did anyone see any velos for Miller yesterday? I'm interested in seeing if he is still in the mid-90's, or if he's back in the lower 90's again. I don't remember him being a mid-90s guy very often unless you're referring to sitting 92-94 with the 94 part qualifying as mid-90s. Did I miss a report? I'll watch the game and see if they give any velos. Mostly semantics with the "mid-90's" stuff, but I remember reading someplace that he was sitting 92-94 and bumping 95.
  25. More of that, please. All the previous AZPhil blurbs on Franklin that I've seen have him walking a couple guys and not missing many bats. Yeah, the potential Eugene rotation of Yovanny Cruz (19), Jeremiah Estrada (20), Danis Correa (19), Kohl Franklin (19) and Yunior Perez (20) looks to be a fun one to follow. For sure.
