  1. He last pitched on the 28th. Bain is supposedly going today. A reasonable bet says he starts tomorrow and then again 5 days after that.
  2. Hit a 2nd bomb and has taken 2 BBs as well. He's really turned it up this month. His August, before the 2 HR, 2 BB, 0 K day today, was: .283/.391/.509 These were his first pro homers not against the Cubs. Always a plus. Final August numbers: .298/.414/.614

  4. Tennessee postponed again today and tomorrow due to COVID.
  5. Interesting that Made has been getting the starts at SS over Howard lately.
  6. Pinango up to SB? That's a really aggressive promotion. I think I like it.
  7. Goodness. Canario does not hit cheapies.
  8. Struck out swinging 1st AB Against a rehabbing Luke Weaver. Rough draw for a pro debut for the 18 year old.
  9. Howard is probably the best defensive SS in the system, but that bat just has so far to go. People were talking about him "starting to figure it out", but he's still hitting at a disastrous .181/.238/.245 clip over the past month (101 PAs). With that said, it's not like Made has been tearing the cover off the ball, either. He needs to have much more than an empty .293 average over the past month with a 29.5% K rate to get near Howard for me.
  10. Please be a blister or something. [tweet] [/tweet]
  11. The return is looking promising, but I'm still pissed that the FO had their hand forced into trading Yu simply because the Ricketts wanted to shed payroll. The circumstances definitely suck, but it's starting to look like a really strong return and with Darvish starting to trend down I don't think we'd get as much value anymore. I didn't anticipate that Yu would have been so affected by the sticky stuff ban. His spin rates are way down across the board and he's giving up a bunch of HRs. I would love to say that the FO knew the ban was coming and that they deftly traded Yu before he was impacted, but I really can't place any other reason for the Yu trade other than the Ricketts cutting off the funds.

  13. Lots of money compared to slot. A Billy Swoope endorsement. And some ungodly high school stats. Leads to high expectations. The elite prep hitters always have video game numbers as Seniors, but I honestly don't remember seeing a player strike out 0 times the entire season before. I'm sure it's happened, but I cannot remember it.
  14. Caissie's 10-game OBP is .587. 14 walks in ten games helps. So does a BABIP over .550! Fun with small samples. But sure is fun to have somebody getting off to a blazing start. And a bunch of his K's seem to be of the looking variety. I'm a broken record at this point, but I can't be any more pissed off at the cheap ass owners and their decision to do away with SS A ball.
  15. It would be great if the ailing pitchers started trickling back into the system this month.
  16. Caissie reached base 6 times yesterday. Given that this is just a continuation of his offensive onslaught from EXST, he probably isn’t going to be in Mesa much longer.
  17. Christian Olivo took an international flight yesterday and toured the facility in Mesa this morning. He'll sign shortly. If it isn't our good friend, Yags!
  18. Getting to see a couple of these guys in the 2nd half is definitely a silver lining in the inevitable sell-off of the entire big league bullpen.
  19. So I’m a long time follower of Cub’s drafts because let’s face it, hope for the future defines Cub fandom. I can remember drafts with Oscar Gamble, Peter LaCock, etc. But a couple questions on this discussion. Is Triantos really that much of an overslot pick? He appears to have been chosen about where he was ranked by most experts. Would he have reclassified from 2022 to 2021 if he wasn’t serious about playing professionally and soon. If he doesn’t reclassify he’s still going to be eligible to get drafted at age 21 after two years at UNC. Isn’t Glenn Cunningham an ideal candidate to sign? He’s committed to the University of Chicago and if you look at their conference it’s not a who’s who of college baseball. If the Cubs can offer college scholarship money is there a reason not to take it and play baseball at a level that affords him a decent opportunity at being a professional? Not that logic always plays. Christian Olivo from PR is going the JUCOs route. I don’t see him foregoing a little extra bonus He may be. He was a bit of a late riser due to the reclassification, and there was talk of him sneaking in at the end of the 1st round. But we'll find out soon enough. Obviously we all hope he isn't.
  20. I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if Triantos eats almost all of that up and takes $2 million.
  21. horsefeathering Pirates. They are destroying this draft so far.
