  1. Caissie finally off the schneid with an infield single. That had to have been a rough week of hitless games for the youngster.
  2. I was wondering this as well, so I checked on a bunch of other good hitting prospects around the league. Crazy small sample size of course, but the vast majority of them came out of the gates hitting much better than the Cubs' guys. K rates look to be pretty high across the board though.
  3. As originally expected. Wonder what the holdup was? Either way, here's hoping he can light some kind of spark with that offense. They've been terrible.
  4. Bats have been underwhelming so far. Pitching has been phenomenal.
  5. I have looked all over and I don't think anyone has any idea right now. He's on the active roster so if it's an injury, it's a minor one.
  6. No PCA again tonight. Hopefully it’s just a stomach bug or something and not an injury sustained in ST.
  7. Looks like Luke Little for MB.
  8. That Tennessee team is going to be really boring to watch on non-Jensen nights if Velazquez turns back into a pumpkin. I don't see one potential big league regular on that entire squad. Pitching in MB is boring as well, but at least they have a really fun lineup to follow every day. SB has it all. As Bertz said, I don't remember a rotation like this one where there is a legit interesting SP going every night.
  9. Hmm. Now that I think about it more, wasn't there a blurb somewhere that they are completely overhauling Nwogu's swing? Maybe they thought the new swing needed a bit more work before going to full season ball. It surely wasn't a production issue in A ball last year. He was really good the last 2.5 months or so there.
  10. No Nwogu? Tough to see the logic in him going back to MB. Unless they are jumping him to Tennessee?
  11. Yeah, it makes zero sense for him not to. We already know Caissie is starting at SB. Seems like Pinango, Nwogu and Canario are likely to round out the starting OF/DH options to begin the year there. Is Pinango relegated to DH only duty while the elbow recovers?
  12. 0-4, 3 Ks. He hit a rocket line drive to the SS the other time up. BUST!
  13. Iowa faces 26 year old LHP Nick Allgeyer who gave up 15 HRs in 89 IP last year. Brennen hitting just 1 bomb today, or do we think 2?
  14. Wicks/Herz/Franklin/Bain/Palencia/Nahas have been the SPs with the SB group in Mesa, per AZ Phil, with Palencia possibly transitioning to closer. I read that Palencia comment, but according to the Cubs that’s not the case. He’s still in the starter group. Good to hear. I mean, he obviously is much more likely to be a late-inning reliever at some point than starter, but there is no need to make that move in A ball. I cannot like this enough. After supposedly being one of the teams that was giving MILBers the worst accomodations and such last year (whether true or not), this goes a long way.

  16. Why are you pointing out league average numbers for college ball and trying to paint that in a positive light? 1st round collegiate picks almost always produce well above that. It's clear that the org felt they could develop Wicks a bunch more. And that's great. But it's also understandable that many fans aren't high on Wicks until he shows that development. Because without it, he's a BOR starter.
  17. What’s so worrisome about those numbers? Yeah they’re not Prior coming out of USC but those aren’t unhealthy numbers even in a vacuum. Could they be more riveting? Sure, always can. Also why ignore the games during 2020, which he absolutely dominated? You don't see anything worrisome about a college junior giving up a hit per inning, despite having a double plus changeup? I can't think of another 1st round college LHP that gave up that many hits their draft year. Small gave up 61 in 107 innings (8 HRs). Lodolo gave up 72 in 98 innings (8 HRs). Lacy gave up 58 in his last 112 innings (6 HRs). Detmers gave up 87 in his last 135 innings (13 HRs). Wicks didn't have monster K numbers AND he gave up more hits than other 1st round collegiate LHPs. Easy to see why many aren't enthused unless the org can make some big changes to his fastball. I left out 2020 because it was literally only 4 starts. That's borderline meaningless in the grand scheme of things. I know you're smarter than to glean anything from 4 starts.
  18. I can only speak for myself, but it was the LACK of lots of quality production that alarmed me, along with watching him have a "meh" fastball. He had a really solid year in 2019 for a freshman, but it wasn't spectacular. 2020 was nixed by Covid, and then as a Junior he gave up 90 hits in 92 IP along with 9 HRs. That's worrisome. As I said when he was drafted, here's hoping the org saw something very fixable with the fastball. Being a LHP with a borderline plus plus changeup gives him a lot of leeway to being at least a potential big leaguer in some way, but that fastball (and a breaking ball of some sort) need to make some huge strides.
  19. Zero interest in McNeil with all the locker room problems he brings. Is there more than just the Lindor thing that happened last year? Because that was actually more Lindor than McNeil.
  20. Wasn't sure exactly where to put it, but I was looking at the FG IFA board and I was shocked to see the Cubs linked to Fernando Cruz, a Dominican SS that they rank as the 10th best prospect/player in the world not already in a MLB organization. Then I saw that he was a 2024 signee, so it's 2 IFA classes away. 1. How good is this kid if he is already rated the 10th best player/prospect as a 14 year old; and 2. I'm selfishly really sad that an International Draft is almost surely going to be implemented by then.
  21. Yeah, that doesn't look like the typical TJS recovery photo, does it? I don't recall seeing the hand that bandaged up before.
  22. Well damn. May be able to DH for part of the 2nd half, but he won't be catching this year.
  23. I'm only able to watch the Gameday, but his PAs just seem to be solid. He hasn't swung at one pitch outside the zone (I admittedly have no idea how accurate the zone is on AZL Gameday). He hit a bomb the first time up. Worked a full count and flew out in his second PA. He then walked on 5 pitches in his 3rd PA. Fun stuff.
  24. From Keith Law: Cubs right-hander Caleb Kilian, who was part of the return for Kris Bryant, faced seven batters Saturday night, and they all reached safely and scored, culminating in a home run for Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia (which I predicted — I have a witness). Kilian was just 91-93 with four pitches, getting hit hard, with no ability to finish his curveball and too little deception. He was followed by Cubs lefty Brendon Little, who was 93-96 but all over the place and left the game with the trainer. That velo is way down for Killian from where he was before COVID. Hopefully it's just a matter of getting the strength and conditioning back up.
  25. I’m going to need a first hand report on what he’s doing that is missing so many bats. All 5 Ks yesterday were swinging.
