  1. http://www.baseballdailydigest.com/blogs/2009/06/30/pitcher-abuse/ Another new article, the first in what will likely be at least two or three parts. Dusty Baker prominently featured...
  2. I think 'most' is pushing it. I don't see how he's been better than Cueto, Haren, Lincecum, and Johnson. I guess you could make a case for the other three though. He's still been great.
  3. bump for another new post- this one is about a former Cub that's been in the news lately- http://www.baseballdailydigest.com/blogs/2009/06/16/now-sosas-name-leaked/
  4. I was about to start a thread saying how right you were, but you beat me to it.
  5. bump for new post up at http://www.baseballdailydigest.com/
  6. Thanks. If you have any contacts that want to be interviewed, you do the same!
  7. I think it could certainly be a strategy he'd employ- he used Huston Street as a piece to get Matt just like they said they would in Moneyball- let him rack up the saves, then trade him. Thanks for bookmarking!
  8. Guys, I've got a sort of tryout writing for http://www.baseballdailydigest.com/ . I had entered a baseball prospectus contest several weeks ago and though I didn't make their final 10, they passed me on as an honorable mention to BDD, which is a site they also own. The guys there are giving me and a few other fellas a chance to write for them to see how it works out. I just wanted to reach out to fellow baseball fans and let you know the site is there to check out and it's easy to see which articles are mine (David Wade). Thanks!
  9. I vaguely remember him doing it before but possibly not actually missing any time on that occasion. Yeah, I think the time you're thinking of he turned his ankle when he hit the bag. I think he stayed in the game...
  10. The White Sox are no great shakes, but they are in a very winnable division and have a way better chance of getting to the playoffs than the Pads.
  11. Peavy had said before he didn't want to play in the A.L. I guess we have to see if playing for a decent team instead of the Pads will override that.
  12. This seems like the place for me to bring up Tim Kurkjeaianean on ESPN the other day saying "NO ONE saw the Brewer pitching staff doing well this year." Then I remembered PECOTA having most of them with decent projections and thought, well, there was somewhere where one could find decent projections for the Brewer staff.
  13. This question always reminds me of Mike and Mike talking about the now former president- he was asked this in an interview about two years ago and said Chase Utley because of the offense you get from him playing a good 2B. His pitcher to build around was Roy Halladay.
  14. That sucks badly. I just want him to return 100%. However long that takes, I'm cool with it. It wont be long before teams are begging us to take guys like Huff, Atkins, and Blalock off their hands, so I say go out an get 1 of them and let Ramirez take all the time he needs. If the Rangers start begging us to take Blalock off their hands, I'd more than happily take him off their hands for very little. He can play 1st and 3rd and will likely produce a mid .800s, low .900s OPS. He is, however, also very injury prone.
  15. I've been through exactly what Ramirez is going through (with the exception that I'm not a pro-athlete obviously) and everything Carroll is saying is everything my doctor told me. They'll use the thermal procedure if they can because that will leave him with the greatest range of motion. If the surgery has to be more invasive because the capsule is too loose for that option, then Aramis is frankly, in trouble because the older / more active you are the more likley your shoulder will continue to come out of socket if that capsule remains loose.
  16. In Philly, they boo mercilessly, so that's one place that's worse than Chicago.
  17. I knew the test ratio was a red flag- I just thought maybe he used the other drug to balance out his hormones and wasn't sure he was using it as a post-cycle drug. Pretty good article- of course it's the guys who broke Balco, so they know what they're talking about.
  18. How robotish does one have to be to believe all these versions of win shares? Any science that has Freel as one game less than Armais over 6 weeks is flawed beyond belief. I believe them, and I'm about 62% robotish. (I'm really more toward the cyborg end of the spectrum, but that's splitting hairs.)
  19. I'm hoping he can come back and finish the season. I think off-season surgery to tighten the labrum will def. happen even if he can. They have a way or two that still leaves full range of motion.
  20. No, but he did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :D No doctor, but for a living he talks to those that know these types of things so he can report on them. From personal experience, he's seems right. The more the shoulder moves out of the 'cup' the more likely it is to do so again and again. That said, Ramirez's is the non-throwing shoulder and that's the good news. How it effects the swing as the 'lead' shoulder my personal experience can't answer, as it was not that way with me.
  21. I have a hard time believing that any veteran caught now- when testing is stricter and the story is so big- is just now using. I can't help but think they've been using for years.
  22. I'll throw in my specialty (personal experience)- I'm a multi-dislocator in my right arm and from what I'm reading (especially Ramirez saying it's happened before) he probably didn't have it come all the way out and could be on the track you linked. At least I hope. It's good news that it's not his throwing arm, because his days at third would be over- I know that from experience- what I don't know is the effect of the lead arm in the swing, but again, he's had this happen before.
