  1. We may find out many more in administration, not the just the athletic department, messed up.
  2. I'm not sure there's any use trying to get in Sandusky's head to figure him out. But yeah, McQueary- I want him fired because short of something like finding out he discovered a horse's severed head under his sheets means he must have chose to look away for the sake of his job and /or the program.
  3. And I think I knew that, I'm just always trying to be real careful about being inflammatory- especially given the sensitivity of this subject.
  4. Not just because of this post, but you should post more often. Thanks. I'm trying. Theo's hire brought me back to daily (hourly?) check-ins. I've let this subject draw me in for some reason.
  5. One of my favorite writers. I have a hard time seeing his side, but like you say, he's right in the middle of Penn State right now and like others he doesn't seem willing to put much on Paterno. i know this is the common thread, that everyone in state college is blinded to things that everyone else can see, but there's another side to it - maybe people who are connected to him and to the program know more. if you really respect posnanski then maybe at least take a minute to try to understand his perspective rather than just writing it off as "whelp he's under the joepa spell too." i was overzealous in my defense of paterno initially, but i still think that someone who has done 60 years of good deeds for a university deserves a proper investigation. if people want to say "he's the face of the program and the most important guy in town; if you're going to be the face of the program when things are going well then you have to be the same when things go bad," that's fine. but the "he enables child rapists and anyone who defends him whatsoever is also a child rapist enabler" attitude, i'm disappointed to see that from people i thought were better than that. (in before "i thought you were better than to enable child rape") I try to be one of the more careful posters on this board on the occasions I come here. Tell me where - "he doesn't seem willing to put much on Paterno" = "whelp he's under the joepa spell too." Posnanski's quotes in the Deadspin article come off as very pro-Paterno. He's writing a book about Paterno. I have taken way more than a minute to understand a writer that I look up to and try to emulate. I've also read Posnanski's blog post about it where he pretty much admits he can't think straight right now and needs time. I get it, it's tough. And it's not like I was some anti-Penn State dude just waiting for them to slip up. I simply read the grand jury pdf and came to the conclusion that I've come to, and that is I don't care how awesome someone is, more needed to be done when he found out his friend did that. I don't think Paterno does not deserve a proper investigation. He may have already had one and that's why he wasn't charged. But he sure needed to be fired in my opinion. And so does McQueary. I fully admit I may be wrong, but that would take an unbelievable series of revelations proving that Paterno and McQueary did all they could have / should have. As of now the only revelations appear to continually be those that further demonstrate that the coaching staff and administration covered for their friend and their program. I hope that either Posnanski soon sees enough to also come to that conclusion or that I'm proven wrong and that Paterno isn't the dirtbag I think he is. While I think the former is way more likely, it doesn't mean I'm derp derp he enables child rapists and anyone who defends him whatsoever is also a child rapist enabler.
  6. The part about the janitor bothered me. He witnessed Sandusky forcibly restraining and molesting a 8-9 year old child, told his superiors who identified the perpetrator as Sandusky and they all watched him stalking kids in the parking lot. No one went to local police or even the campus police. I read that part and I'm not sure they thought he was stalking kids. I think he had left with the victim, then came back and drove slowly through the parking lot on a couple of occasions. This was at Penn State, I think. To me, it seemed more like he figured he'd been seen by the janitor and was trying to find out if anthing was being done (police called in?) that would get him in trouble.

  8. There are two parts to this that infuriate me as a father and human being. What you mentioned above, and the brazen approach by Sandusky. It doesn't even look like he tried to hide it, almost like he thought it wasn't a bad thing. But then you read the grand jury report and he mentions that he "hates himself" for doing it and you think he knew it was wrong. Janitors were watching him stalk children in the parking lot after seeing him sexually abusing a kid in the locker room. Yet, neither they, the GA, Paterno, the AD nor the university president did anything. [expletive] sickening He probably just said he "hates himself" to make the one mom think he was remorseful and would actually not do that stuff anymore, hoping she'd accept that and not push the issue further.
  9. Old man Roth was wrong about who would end up being bigger than US Steel.
  10. Agreed, those adopted kids/people need to be protected immediately. I think one has a court-order barring her dad from unsupervised contact with his grandchilren.
  11. He has since admitted he made the first statement without knowing the background and put himself in Twitter time-out. Dumb, dumb statment to make without familiarizing yourself at least a little beforehand. EDIT- not dumb by you, jersey, dumb by Kuchar to make the statement about Paterno intially. When I re-read that it didn't sound right. I knew what you meant. I figured, but wanted to clarify since it sounded at least a little like I was the biggest Ashton Kuchar fanboy in the world.

  13. I agree, but somehow that doesn't seem to be enough. I don't think he can be brought up on charges but they need to investigate this guy at a minimum to make sure that his bank account didn't receive a single big deposit around the time this all occurred. I'm starting to think it's a big enough red flag that he has risen through the coaching ranks. I can't help but think he was motivated by his career and "protecting" the program.
  14. Oh my God.
  15. McQueary has to be fired. He has to be.
  16. There was just an ad at the bottom of my screen for Penn State clothing. I'm sure that stuff is driven by words on a screen or whatever, but still weird, considering.
  17. I can't say with certainty that I'd take immediate action either. I do hope that I could have. And you are right, seeing him for the next ten years at campus, knowing that? How in the world? I wonder if they spoke after that- some awkward interactions pretending it didn't happen? This whole story is a horror show and I can't stop thinking about it.
  18. Yesterday, when I first read about McQueary, I couldn't help but imagine the scene. And, yes, I could envision a scenario in which if I were him I'd be in shock, unable to move, scream, anything at all if I saw a man doing that to a grade schooler. But I keep coming back to the belief that eventually, after however long it would take to process the information- (5 seconds? a full minute? almost immediately?)- I would be able to yell, curse, scream for the man to stop. That I would at least be able to call the cops. That I would try to get the kid away from him. The bar doesn't have to be set at expecting McQueary to go in and disable Sandusky. But I have to agree with those who believe they would have done at least more than make eye contact with both parties in the shower and then leave to ask their father what they should do about seeing their former coach doing that, while leaving the kid there. Today, I believe McQueary did what he did because he wanted to protect his job, his football team, and his mentors.
  19. Yeah, but how much of that rage is bypassing Paterno on it's way Schultz, Spanier and Curley? Quite a bit, I'd guess. Don't forget the receivers coach/ eyewitness, who will apparently be on the sidelines Saturday.
  20. So the NCAA can penalize a program for lack of institutional control because an assistant violates some recruitment rules, but should not do so if the Athletic Department wouldn't report a rape in their locker room by a former assistant that still has an office at the school. Good God. What interests, beside those of the football team and a former assistant, was the A.D. looking out for? If I played there, I wouldn't leave for fear of pending sanctions. But I would probably leave nonetheless.
  21. I think if I was a football player there I would consider another school. Maybe the NCAA could set aside the rule where they'd have to sit out a year.
  22. Not reporting it immediately to law enforcement is reprehensible in my opinion, but I can't even fathom how much of a dirtbag he is if he covered it up. I think there's a good chance Paterno also knew of prior allegations against Sandusky at the time the G.A. reported it.
  23. bleacherREPORT lol Additionally, you can be certain that I will never sign up for a board and, in my second post, spam the place with my own garbage. I wait until my 400th post to spam a place with my own garbage. I waited until I had over a thousand posts, but I'm an overachiever.
  24. Should help hitters make the transition to the pros. And, more importantly, could keep someone from getting killed on a line drive. The bats had gotten way, way too hot.
  25. The annual post of the link for the Virtual Waiting Room would be much appreciated.
