  1. Don't you remember the meeting with Congress on St Patricks Day 2005? McGwire pleaded the fifth the whole day and got completely ripped apart in the media. And when Palmeiro tested positive the media destroyed him also. Both have basically admitted guilt. Bonds keeps steadfastly denying it. He should be out there alone because no other player has as much speculation surrounding him and still denies it. Gary Sheffield may not be under the microscope as much as Bonds right now, but he should be. If I recall he testified that he took the substances and gave the same excuse as Bonds. If Bonds perjured, then Gary may have and should also be investigated, in my opinion.
  2. I was at a game this afternoon and had a Winter coat on. It was about 60 degrees, but very windy. You probably had your baseball glove, too. :D
  3. Subscription required, BP update Will Carroll said, "Wood is throwing well, rated by many who saw him this spring as “fully back.” One player who watched him throw batting practice said that his “BP curve was better than most guys' ‘A’ curve.” " He also said Prior and Miller were on about the same timetable. Sounds like they both need to build stamina, but are throwing without pain. Color me cautiously optimistic.
  4. My Insight (Kentucky) doesn't carry MLB E.I. either. I called and e-mailed and they said past interest didn't warrant carrying it again. Looks like I'm internet radio-only again this year (aside from national t.v. games, that is.)
  5. I had him starting in my 12 man league, but I don't have guys the caliber of the ones you listed that are blocking him. I don't see how you start him over those three guys, who are your others?
  6. This is good news, to me. If Walker has a really good year the top four in the order could do a lot of damage.
  7. Alright, I can invest a couple grand, who's with me?
  8. If it's supposed to be legit, then they need to investigate everybody at every level. Player's Union, Selig, and reporters, along with the players. Sure, there were some reporters asking questions before a lot of this came out, but I think there are many who are ripping MLB now that were glorifying the home run exploits of the early 2000's while they likely knew what was up. If they don't look at everyone, it's a disingenuous reaction to the "Game Of Shadows" book. I'd also like to know what they plan to do. Retroactively suspend people? Offer them a chance to repent? It's all interesting to me, but doesn't change the fact that I'll watch about 1,000 baseball games this year.
  9. I read that article. I think Sullivan just forgot to put him in there.
  10. That's what I thought when I picked him up in my fantasy league off the waiver wire last week. Just like that, he's gone.
  11. I guess the big question is if Walker gets dealt. If he is then I think Perez starts some games at 2B. But, time is running out on the Walker trade idea (hopefully).
  12. Hardball Times article No groundbreaking news in this article. Despite the predictable knocks, many of which we've made here, in summary they give the club an outside shot at the division.
  13. my entry Ortiz Dunn Pujols Delgado Bay Berkman M. Young C. Jones Helton Kearns E. Encarnacion
  14. How many games did he and Nomar play together last year? 15-20? Not saying he's great at turning DP's, but looking at those two together won't provide much, in my opinion.
  15. My thoughts are that Novoa's illness and Wuertz's struggles have locked Williamson on the Cub roster for 2006. And I'm glad because if healthy he's good.
  16. You do realize Steve Stone isn't a doctor, never gives any real solid baseball information when interviewed, usually gives vague answeres to specific questions and has a Paul Bunyan sized axe to grind with the Cubs, right? Looks like Stoney was right on this one, reguardless of any issues he has with the Cubs. I find it funny that Prior talked about how suprised he was to find out he was injured and claimed that he felt great etc. Not even the most adamant Hendry/Cubs Front office supporters buy that garbage. Why not just give it up to Carroll for delivering the scoop and move on? The Cubs and their players would be better off not taking everything so personal. I still don't buy that Carroll's report and Prior's injury are the same thing. I am of the mind that Prior is sore, but he overreacted to said soreness, and he doesn't trust the Cubs medical staff to treat or diagnose everything. The reason I still think the reports from two weeks ago were probably accurate is that the M.R.I. did show a strain. That's not overreacting to soreness in my opinion. I think there's a good chance that it hurt him coming in and he and/ or the Cubs tried to work through it first and see if it would go away. That guess would explain the easing into work, the behind closed doors sim games, the internet report, and the subsequent M.R.I. That said, I readily admit this is just a guess.
  17. Well, if we're keeping score, I loathe Clemens (but would take him on the Cubs). And, Barrett is da man!
  18. Thanks for explaining how the MRI figures in -- that was the most confusing of the initial reports. On the national (not local) ESPN radio update, they just mentioned Prior and led it off with "if the Cubs know the results of Prior's MRI, they aren't talking. ' Wow, I wonder if that means the skepticism of Cubs management is national.
  19. Please let the MRI confirm all of this. I can handle not seeing him pitch in April if it means he'll be o.k. the rest of the year.
  20. I'm not sure what this ultimately means. It's better than bad news, I guess. As far as what it means, I think it's the best news that could have possibly come out. I.E., he's hurt, but it's not structurally damaged. Hopefully as long as all the tendons and muscles are still attatched he see significant action this year.
  21. Just a couple of days ago Baker was saying "there's nothing wrong with him, nothing, nothing, NOTHING!!!" How is that not the Cubs saying he was 100%? This is just of memory, so I may be wrong.
  22. To me, this basically confirms in my mind that the cubs were lying all along. I guess the other angle is Prior knew he was hurt and asked them not to make a big deal out of it hoping it would get better as spring training went on. Or, he knew he was hurt and didn't tell the Cubs, again hoping it would just get better.
  23. Maybe this is in another thread, but Carroll has a couple of quotes in the Tribune today. story here
  24. Does that make Gail Fischer Scully? Is she in love with Todd Walker, but hiding it for the sake of their quest? The more important question is whether or not Jim Hendry is "the cigarette-smoking man".
