  1. J.R., you were right. They finally announced on-line the 11 game package option. The first 3 games of the package are the first three games of the year against the Cubs, so I'm probably going to do it this way. If you don't get your opening day tickets from the Reds this way, you enter through reds.com for individual tickets. Instead of the virtual waiting room, you enter sometime during a 24 hour period and then "winners" are drawn at random and notified via e-mail that they have a certain amount of time to buy their tickets. Sounds too hit or miss for me to mess around with. Me and dad-in-law had to shell out a couple hundred for tickets to last year's opener from ebay. I may as well get 11 games for the same price even if I can't go to all other 8.
  2. ME TOO! He's one of my all-time favorite baseball players. I was 7-8 years old and living in Michigan when he was a rookie.
  3. I follow the Tigers as well as the Cubs and your scenario often played out with Joel Zumaya coming into a dicey situation and leaving the closer Todd Jones for the ninth with no one on. Zumaya is a far better pitcher than Jones and many think there will be a switch before the year is over in Detroit, but as you've layed it out above it can be advantageous to have those "setup" guys as good or better than your "closer" guy.
  4. If you ain't first, you're last. Oh hell, Son, I was high that day. That doesn't make any sense at all, you can be second, third, fourth... hell you can even be fifth.
  5. The thing is, he's not late unless he doesn't check in today. He'll just be the last player to check in and, jeez, somebody has to be last or else they all tied for first.
  6. Good. Maybe we won't see some of the things we saw under Dusty, like- Bunting for the last out of a game Lee sacrificing (I don't care the circumstance) Often sacrificing in the first inning I'm not a staunch anti-bunter, it has it's place, but by and large I'm not a fan.
  7. I gave my yacht away so I could avoid senseless injuries such as these.
  8. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v177/Navinda/kerry.jpg If that's real, he looks awful.
  9. Was it opening day that Neifi did that wierd little ball in the glove thing to end the game? Not to be confused with that really cool bunt he did to end one of the games. That may have been the Wrigley opener. It was a pop up behind first and he ran it down and put some serious mustard on the hot dog, that much I know for sure.
  10. I'm looking forward to all the pictures without Neifi Perez and Jose Macias.
  11. Is he the first person from another planet to get U.S. citizenship?
  12. Thanks for the update. I'll check into the 11 gamer.
  13. Bumpity-Bump. I just read on reds.com that Cincy has offered Eddie Guardado a spring training invite with incentives if he makes the team. Anybody know what position he plays?
  14. Hey, I was right, they split the difference! I fear Zambrano won't be so easy, but as others have said, Hendry has repeatedly signed guys heading into their last year of arby a one year deal with the idea of extending before the season.
  15. Well, this will mean no potentially cantankerous hearing. I'll bet they pretty much split the middle on each one's numbers. Damn I hope he's healthy this year.
  16. By the sounds of it, it's Texas or the highway. How has Sammy done Spring Training wise in his career? Well, back when he was good he would miss the first few days.
  17. I think how he starts the year could set the tone. He used to be a slow starter, but '05 and even '06 before he got hurt he came out with a higher average to go with his always good discipline.
  18. I wonder if they'll have to eat the money or if he's unable to play and insurance will pick it up.
  19. Agreed, although i think the decrease in WGN Games has a lot more to do with WGN going to a "network" affiliation and choosing not to broadcast all the Cubs games...someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that's a MLB call. The days of kids across the country becoming Cubs fans because it was the only thing on in the afternoons are long gone. The only way this would bite them is if they lost current fans (doubtful), or lost enough potential fans to offset the financial gain. I don't think that will happen. Unless their father's are already Cubs fans, kids in other states aren't hanging out watching the Cubs on summer afternoons and falling in love. i wonder if the braves have a big nationwide following given their superstation and recent success? they didnt have a harry caray to listen too, though. I know some people around here (Kentucky) that are Braves fans because they saw games on TBS.
  20. I might would do a seven game package. But, do you remember about what weekend it was for general sales last year? I thought it was sometime in February, but someone guessed March.
  21. Anybody have an educated guess for the day single-game tickets will go on sale for the Reds? Last year it was the weekend before the Cubs, if that helps jog anyone's memory. My pappy-in-law is coming down from Chi-town come hell or high water, so I've got to make good on some tix and would prefer the non-eBay cost me much money option that I was forced to use last year. Right now they have season ticket packages that guarantee opening day, but there's no way I could hit enough games to make it worthwhile.
  22. I didn't know he could pitch out of the bullpen.
  23. At least they didn't have to give up two starting position players this time.
  24. Golfing never hurt my shoulder after I screwed it up pitching. BTW - my mechanics stunk at both sports. I think you'd have to have pretty bad golf mechanics to tax your right shoulder in a right handed golf swing!
