  1. I don't have a link, but this is per Boers and Bernstein on WSCR
  2. There's really no benefit to firing him immediately either. He's not hurting the team by remaining as manager right now since the season is over and there's not going to be a managerial search until the new GM is hired so his being around isn't impeding that. I agree with CCP that Ricketts is probably waiting for the new GM to fire Quade and hire someone else to give that new GM a chance to evaluate Quade along with other candidates. There is a benefit to firing him immediately. You let it be known very clearly that the manager's spot is open for the Cubs next year, to lessen the risk of letting the right guy go someplace else. There is nothing to be gained by keeping him, because he is a completely incompetent moron with absolutely no clue. You can let the new GM be the guy who fires him, but that's just a disingenuous gesture. Not to mention it burdens the new GM with an unnecessary deed. Just clean house and let him work on hiring people from day 1 instead of having some false "evaluation period". I agree with this completely
  3. Ricketts of course has the authority to fire Quade, but he's not the manager's direct boss like he is for the GM. I don't think Ricketts wants the image of being meddling unless he has a very good reason to do so. I wouldn't consider firing Quade as meddling...its the obvious thing to do. Ricketts already has the image of meddling w/ the extension of Fleita, but that's a different discussion for a differnt time.
  4. Much like all other offseason decisions, it will come down to the new GM. But what GM would keep him as manager? If you know he's not coming back next year and you know no GM would want him as manager, why delay the inevitable? Unless, Ricketts plans to let him finish out his contract. Im not saying that will happen, just speculation on my part.
  5. Does anyone wonder why Quade hasn't been fired yet? If Ricketts can fire Hendry mid season, why isn't Quade gone yet? Is it conceivable that Quade might be sticking around another year? I thought it was obvious to everyone that Quade was clearly in over his head when it came to managing.
  6. So, what is our draft position for next year? We have the same record as the Padres and Royals. Looks like we can be anywhere between 5th and 7th, depending on tie breakers
  7. Also don't forget how he blamed a loss on Castro after he lost a ball in the sun. And, how he left starting pitchers in one inning too long on numerous occasions. And, how he didn't learn to pitch around Albert Pujols during key situations. Mike Quade...good riddance and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
  8. He probably doesn't, but since he's the manager of a losing team the large assumption will lean towards the scenario that makes him look least intelligent. But, what part of his short tenure makes anyone think he is an intelligent manager?
  9. Really? I was being sarcastic. But, I wonder if Quade really thinks this.
  10. I wouldn't put it past Quade to do such a thing...got to get that last win to save his job! And why not give the Cubs a worse draft position for next year's draft, right? Will Quade play mostly veterans in the last game? Or will he mix in some rookies not named LaHair? In the words of Dusty Baker, "I can't turn my back on Holly." I think Monday was the play the kids for the last time night. It will probably be mostly the veterans tonight. If so, Im sure Quade is relieved that its over with. Certainly can't turn your back on the veterans in a meaningless game. He needs this last win to save his job and drop the Cubs' draft position next year.

  12. NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. As of a few weeks ago, they were also 12th in OBP and last in walks. Sounds like the same old "swing, swing, swing" mentality to me.
  14. When you just want the game to end, he's your guy. Isn't he the 7.5 million dollar man? Whatever he is, teams have paid better players more money to go away. Agreed. There's no point in giving him any innings from here on out...he wont be here next year and its not like Gaub could do much worse. But then again, randy bush is sleeping, so I doubt Grabow is going anywhere.
  15. Of course, Quade puts in Grabow over Gaub in extra innings...no reason to give him any experience when you can put in a crappy veteran, who wont be here next year, to give the Reds the lead. Got to keep those September callups on the bench when you are 20 games out.
  16. If this is true, it goes to show you what a pathetic organization the White Sox truly are...to base their decisions on what the Cubs might or might not do. If you like him as manager, keep him. If not, let him go and move on.
  17. Yes, and Bruce Miles and Carrie Muskat are saying he won't be called up this September. Probably for the best since he doesn't have to be rostered this offseason and there are already going to be some tough decisions this offseason. That's too bad. It makes sense based on what you are saying, but I was really hoping to have a reason to watch Cubs games the rest of this season.
  18. Last game for Iowa today? I'm too lazy to look it up. If so, does anyone think BJax will be called to the Cubs after today?
  19. What call? He would have been silent almost the entire broadcast!
  20. Not that it means anything, but today on the Score's Hit N' Run show, Matt Speigl predicted that Josh Byrnes would be the next GM of the Cubs...just a gut feeling albeit not an optimistic one.
  21. Id like Ricketts to be asked at the next press conference how extending Fleita is consistent w/ his desire to become a more statistical and technological based baseball organization, but I wont hold my breath.
  22. But, isn't the GM position more appealing if the GM is able to bring in his own guy for Fleita's position? Even Ricketts said at the Hendry firing press conference that the new GM would make the call on Fleita and Wilken.
  23. You can probably kiss the chances of bringing in Epstein, Cashman and Freidman goodbye. Ned Coletti anyone?
  24. Unbelievable...looks like both Fleita and Wilken will be forced upon the next GM. Thats not the right way to run a baseball organization. Should I assume that Sandberg will be the next manager too?
  25. Then we wouldn't want to hire them as GM now would we? I guess not. If freidman is happy in Tampa, and Epstein and Cashman already have all of the money and resources at their disposal, what would it take to get any of these guys to come to the Cubs?
