But the pain for Kerry seems to come after 60-70 pitches - he won't get half that in a relief appearance.

I think you gotta stick with Demp. He's been lights out, and Wood doesn't have the 'bounce-back' mentality like Demp does. Getting the ball to Demp with the lead is just as important as closing it out in the final analysis. I hope people who call Wood "soft" will notice that he's gonna pitch thru pain for the remainder of the season, is moving to the pen to help the team, and isn't taking the surgery option.

And, per the above link, he's going to the minors first, which is awesome, the right way to do it, and not how the Cubs have handled their big stars recently. If Wood can't start, and he can't hurt himself in the pen, put him in the pen. I bet he's going to be AWESOME! The guy is a gamer - he'll adapt. Add Williamson to the mix and we're going to have a great 7,8,9 combo!

- Juan Cruz is "dominating" AAA? HE'S TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OLD! His ERA in oakland this year? 8.49 Cruz is 26 actually, 27 in October, but he does in fact totally suck. That ERA is in 20+ games too, so it's continual total sucking. He's also incredibly ugly. FYI, Hee Seop Choi sucks too. Do you have a couple hours to kill, or do you just love arguing that much? I was reviewing their stats... just getting up to speed on them. Unfortunately I saw Cruz's picture. I don't see what there is to argue about with that mug.

Seems like we're all avoiding the big question: Can we do win it all this year without Kerry? Can we make it to the playoffs without him?

He said Wood would not risk further damage to the shoulder by pitching the rest of the season without the cleanup of his shoulder. "Every MRI we've done on him has been very consistent," O'Neal said. "There's no significant changes with any of them. There's nothing that's jumping out and saying, hey, here's our problem. Theoretically, if he had something significantly wrong, he would not be able to do what he's doing right now. Your body is not going to allow you to do that." This situation sucks, but the silver lining is that surgery should help a lot and Kerry should be strong to start 2006. Mabe he'll have another couple cortisone shots each month or so and he'll pitch in pain for the rest of the year. If that turns out to be a bad decision, maybe all those idiots saying Kerry is a 'wuss' who has no heart will be satisfied. :roll: I don't know which is worse on the arm, but I wish Kerry wouldn't be more open to pitching in the pen. It'd only be for this year, cuz Kerry should be fine for 2006 with surgery. But I would be totally fine if he has surgery soon, misses the rest of the year and then has max recovery time. Could be much worse.

What's funny is that people always apologize for mispronouncing it. But if I got upset every time someone messed up my name I'd be one angry foreign-named dude. I am very happy that he is recovering nicely. However, I noticed that this article is dated 7/24 for an incident that occurred on 7/9. if I were Greenberg I would stop talking about this issue. Whether or not he actually said he is "haunted by the memories" or it was added for dramatic effect, he should consider keeping his feeling about the matter to himself. The Cubs may view some of what has been reported as a negative. No doubt other teams will pitch him up and in to intimidate and push him off the plate. I hope he has the opportunity to get back in the batter's box soon so that this issue can be put behind him. I can't believe he'd have said that - my take was it was added in a case of bad journalism. I bet Greenburg is totally fine - just part of the game.
