What happened to Ricky Romero? He's been dreadful this year and got killed tonight. He was awesome last year and had a pretty good 2010. Seems like a good buy low candidate in the offseason if he becomes available.
I agree with all of this. It seems many will be disappointed if we can't trade Garza which I can't seem to understand. We have a 28 year old TOR pitcher that we can resign and build around. I have little interest in the Dodgers system. I just don't like the pieces outside of Zach Lee. I'd much rather prefer a trade with Texas, Toronto, or Boston. I would love a Boston trade with Barnes coming this way. Texas has a ton of interesting pieces - although I am not a huge Olt fan. I am very disappointed Detroit made that trade with Miami - I still was hoping for Castellanos. I am not sure what other teams will look for pitching help, but Detroit & Atlanta are likely out of the market now.
I really like this trade assuming it goes through. At the very worst, I believe our 3, 4, 5 spots in the rotation are set for the long term. Depending on what happens with Garza we are just lacking one more top of the rotation pitcher from being pretty set. 5 - Wood 4 - Delgado 3 - Shark 2 - Garza 1 - FA? - if not this offseason - the next.
The audio on that was extremely good. Soler's HR yesterday also sounded incredible. IDK if it's something about the audio, but both of their HRs were LOUD.
I'm more out of the loop here but what's the big appeal with Lee? His numbers haven't been that great since being drafted. I'm sure there's more to it. Electric stuff although some people differ on how good it actually is. He can get it up to 98, but reports are he's sitting at 89-92.
His July numbers are just freaking stupid so far. Actually if you take out April, his numbers the last 3 months are: .399/.452/.757/1.209. That's 2/5 of a season's worth of plate appearances, so it's not some little hot streak. Plus, I have watched a lot of Pirates game the last month or so and he has almost completely stopped swinging and missing at pitches. Every AB I see from him he makes HARD contact. The homer he hit last night had a wicked sound to it. Like Hamilton-esque. Scary. His OBP is like .430! I think he's the run away MVP of the NL if the Pirates even come close to staying in this thing. He has no real help in that lineup either.
Turner is getting absolutely corn holed right now by the Angels. He may not make it out of the 2nd. He's given up 3 HRs already (Pujols, Trout, Trumbo). After Turner's rough year, how do people feel about him? There has been talk about a loss of velocity and he has sketchy numbers between both the minors and majors so far.
Castellanos, Turner, Smyly is simply not happening. Castellanos is raking, Smyly is off to a great pro start, and Turner is the most talented arm they have. I don't even think we could get Castellanos and Crosby at this point.
Even if you eat 85-90% of the deal you're likely saving money. He's getting paid one way or the other. Soriano simply doesn't fit. Why slow down this teams rebuild? Eat a lot of the $, get decent prospects in return, and continue to rebuild. If eating some of his salary means cutting into next years spending - I am totally fine with that. As long as we get a solid package in return.
I have no idea why dexter would even argue about this. It's well documented. He went on the 60 day DL to work out psych issues in the past & abruptly left a training camp for something like two months for the same reason. He has stated multiple times in the past he is surprised he decided to come back to play baseball. Even when KC put him on the trade market - they communicated with Grienke and made sure he went to a smaller market.
I think Vitters can be just as good as Pablo Sandoval in the majors. Call me super optimistic, but I see a .290 hitter who will OPS at about 870. The defense I don't know. And the base running I don't care.
