  1. How is this contradictory? This board endlessly discusses who should be in cf. Whether nomar should have been brought back. Whether declining to resign Alou was a good idea, etc., etc.
  2. Howry essentially replaced Farnsworth as the setup man. Both make similar money. Obviously, you don't want to three righty relievers (dempster, howry and farns) making $15 million. Just throwing out a question. It's a little boring today. I remember a lot of people being ticked when Farns was dealt. Just wondering what the consensus is now. Does Hendry have the correct righty setup man now. Maybe he did something right for a change.
  3. is Howry a pretty good replacement??
  4. 19 runs the past 2 days. Thta's nice for a change. Really good to hear this Aardsma kid throws really hard. Maybe the Cubs will get something outta Latroy Hawkins afterall.
  5. Maybe they shouldn't be our 7 and 8 hitters? How long must it take for our highest OBP guy to lead off? cedeno's ops is a lot higher batting 7th or 8th. might be best to keep him there and let him continue to build his confidence. While I don't argue that, I must hope at some point Murton moves further up the lineup. Theres no reason he shouldn't be batting 1st or 2nd. murton looks like an ideal 2 hitter at some point, but he needs to improve versus righties. his obp coming into today was .318 versus righties. pierre's at .305 versus righties. murton just absolutely kills lefties. his ops is over 1.100. right now the 5th spot might suit him best versus lefties and the 7th versus rightes.

  7. The cubs record when they hit 2 home runs has to be good. :)
  8. ok. he's waiting til the 9th to blow it. LETS GET SOME RUNS!
  9. well, this would be a new twist on losing,if eyre blows it. he's been the best reliever.
  10. start rusch or bring up williams to start. the cubs will just kill the trade value and confidence of these other guys. maybe guzman will be ready by august.
  11. I've got the starters at 5.54, bullpen at 4.05, and 4.96 overall. I only have that split for the CUBS. No way to compare it to the rest of the league. Ouch. That's awful. If you measure it from 26 April forward..... you get starters at 6.51, bullpen at 4.44 and overall 5.68. No wonder we're 6-24 over that span. wow. cubs need more off days like they had in early april, so they could skip some guys.

  13. probably on their way to last after today's disaster. The starters have to have the worse ERA in the NL considering Rusch, Williams, Hill, Guzman and Ryu have 16 or so starts. I can't find the stat for starters tho. Fred? What a disgrace, and just think how bad it would be if Marshall didn't come out of nowhere. Jmo, but the starting pitching is a bigger disappoint than the hitting. At least Lee can give the offence a big boost when he returns. Expecting anything from Prior/Wood is laughable.
  14. never heard of this ramirez guy. he'll probably own the cubs. wood will give up 3 homers and go his usual 5 innings. reds 6 cubs 1
  15. ..yep..Wood and Prior have really exposed our pitching "prospects". Hill, Guzman, and Ryu likely had some type of trade value before this season. Guzman will get better. Ryu is not that bad. I dont know what to make of hill. I just wonder what kind of deals Hendry turned down because the other teams wanted Ryu, Guzman, or the "untouchable" Hill. When Hendry was interviewed during Saturday's Fox broadcast, he mentioned that he had talked to a lot of teams and was even willing to "overpay" to get a replacement for Lee. If these three don't start showing something you can kiss their trade value goodbye. Of course teams with a real pitching coach might still see their value. It makes ya wonder. I doubt anyone is willing to give up much at this point. However, if Hendry could have had Craig Wilson for Hill, hendry really messed up.
  16. if womack outperforms hairston, perhaps hairston's shown the door. neifi's going nowhere. he could hit .100 and still remain a cub.
  17. you know things are bad when they have to bring up someone to pitch who has no business on a major league team. well prior will be back in septemeber at least.
  18. why do i even watch these guys. :x they can laugh at the cubs again on sportscenter. nice play aram.
  19. freddie.. freddie bynum left fielder without a fear. freddie.. freddie bynum faster than any deer.
