  1. hendry might still consider dealing hill pricey. who really knows tho. it could all be posturing by jim. i think wilson's $3.3 million salary may not be trib friendly either, and i doubt pitt would eat any of his salary.
  2. Anyone have an idea who the "different player" might be? No indication of who the Cubs might be seeking. The Dodgers do have a deep farm system fwiw. am guessing pierre. I'm guessing a lineup with Lofton, Furcal and Pierre would be overkill pierre would give them depth. lofton's old. however, after reading some more comments, it may have been hairston and they were asking for cruz or saenz.
  3. can't see the cubs going after craig wilson now. i'll bet hendry inquired and he's too pricey for the cubs' blood. wilson would cost rich hill and probably more. the next stop gap move is probably a pitcher. if they get real hot, then they may look to upgrade @ 2b, LF, SS or CF.
  4. might as well try to get wilson while they can now even if they're not going to contend. guys like wilson may not be available next year.
  5. so hendry probably asked for saenz or cruz?

  7. Lofton's age was a big concern of mine. Players are more likely to get hurt when they join the Cubs. Hopefully, Pie can solidify cf for the next 15 years.
  8. It probably took awhile to hammer out the finances on the deal.. The Cubs didn't want to spend money, which is why Conine was the first option when Lee went down. Nevin >>>> Hairston The Cubs will be better.
  9. c'ya Matty. nevin most likely plays in place of the two starters who can't hit lefties. I know. When I heard what Dusty had said about trying Nevin in the OF, I automatically assumed that that would mean sitting Jones against lefties. I can't see how anyone would think that he meant sitting Murton who hits lefties really well (.395/.477/.684). I can't speak for CubinNY, but I think some people may have just lost faith in Dusty's ability to think clearly enough to make that obvious choice. I'm sure that Nevin will see some playing time in LF just as Hairston did on May 11th and Bynum did on May 5th, but I can't find any reason besides the manager's brain not working properly to sit Murton in favor of Nevin so I don't think anyone should actually be worried about that. Now replacing Jones against lefties is another matter entirely... i'd like to see dusty put jones in cf and go w/ murton in right and nevin in lf versus lefties. sit pierre.
  10. Put Eckstein, Rodriguez, Spiezo, Luna, and Miles on the Cubs and they'd all have a sub .650 ops. I hate St. Louis and their luck.
  11. corey's biggest problem was psychological. he needed dr. phil or phil jackson.
  12. wish you could have done this last year corey. never fails. :x
  13. thanks for listening jimbo. the last thing the cubs needed was 8 second basemen. 1 needed to go.
  14. c'ya Matty. nevin most likely plays in place of the two starters who can't hit lefties.
  15. I"m trying not to get my hopes up, and crossing my fingers that he doesn't get hurt again. He'll be back on the DL by July. You're probably right. Just watch the Cubs go on a little run.. Get fans hopes up a little and then Wood gets hurt.. again.
  16. the point is you're trying to dig yourself out of the hole you dug several posts ago, and failing miserably. if Corey Patterson becomes a perennial all star, how long are we going to hear about that? Trading Dontrelle Willis is still brought up here. It was merely a hypothetical question that you misunderstood.
  17. unfortunately, rothschild will probably convince him that nibbling the plate is the way to go.
  18. ok Seriously, what are you talking about with the title of this thread? it's called trolling. and yes, i'd rather have farnsworth than novoa, flowers, and moore. I think it is funny that this is considered trolling. If, for example, someone started a thread on a Cubs board saying "Who would you rather have now, CPatt or Pierre" that is classic trolling because it is just an attempt to rile up Cubs fans. However, the general attitude on this board is now so negative toward management that trying to bring up good things (yay - we now have upgraded our right handed relief corp) is viewed as trolling. Pretty wierd. i'll be all over the first guy who brings up not signing brian giles next year. :) ok, i do that already. :) Any contract Giles signed with us would've been for more than one year, so if you make that case now then it's still applicable then. The same doesn't apply to the situation you're falling back to. That's "critical thinking". ?????? hendry could have signed farns to a long-term deal too instead of trading him.. people have recently brought up not having vlad or tejada. is farnsworth a taboo subject?

  20. baiting people to think critically??

  22. ok Seriously, what are you talking about with the title of this thread? it's called trolling. and yes, i'd rather have farnsworth than novoa, flowers, and moore. Why? Farnsworth is paid approx $5M more than Novoa and his career numbers are only slightly better than Novoa's. I agree that this thread is pretty ridiculous, because nobody in their right mind would take Farnsworth over Howry, but Farnsworth is grossly overrated due to his upper 90'S heat. If Moore turns out to be a Major League player the Cubs got the best of that deal. Farnsworth's upside is a lot higher than Howry's tho. Few guys can throw as hard as Farnsworth. It was always a matter of Farnsworth putting it together. It's quite debatable..
  23. so howry's better for the money than farns. if howry was stinking up the joint, i can guarantee there would be lots of pining for farns @ $5 million. hence the comparison makes sense. decisions made 2-3 years ago still effect this year.
  24. ok Seriously, what are you talking about with the title of this thread? it's called trolling. and yes, i'd rather have farnsworth than novoa, flowers, and moore. so you'd pay farns, howry and dempster $15 million? that's what you're saying right? i'm done connecting the dots for you after this one.
