  1. Sanders is an every other year player. He's due for a .750 ops and 80 games. Stay away from players nearing 40.
  2. This guarantees Encanarcion an ops of at least .850.
  3. Amen. Eckstein would have put up an ops of .600 w/ the Cubs and Carpenter would have been on the DL the past 2 years, if a Cub. 1 or 2 key injuries and the Cards could be a .500 team.
  4. FoxSports is not very reliable, and we are talking about a business that is very unreliable as a whole. I really doubt that FoxSports has the specifics of any trade proposal that might exist at this point. Still get a laugh out of Jack Haley's Boozer for Odom deal from last year. Fox is pretty unreliable.
  5. Yep wish they would have got Tejada too, but they did fill some holes in 04. Iirc they had about $15 million or so available in 04 & spent the money on Maddux, Hawkins & Walker. Their 5th starter in 03 was Estes. Nuff said. The pen was an arm short & Hawk was the best available setup man in 04. Unfortunately, he choked as a Cub. Walker's been quite productive and is essentially a Cub icon. ;) The available money wasn't wasted, but if Prior goes for Tejada, Hendry made a huge blunder.
  6. Hendry never makes moves for big stars, but we can't disregard getting Lee and ARam for basically nothing. These all or nothing arguments are pure overstatement.
  7. I think Hendry wants Tejada, and the owner of the Orioles is stupid enough to want "a front-line" starter rather than rebuild the team for 2008. A smart owner would want a Guzman/Hill/Bedard combo rather than Prior. Prior's the same age as Hill and has Hall of Fame potential unlike the others.
  8. Maybe Prior's being dangled to see what other teams are interested. I really hope this deal takes a while and Hendry waits around to see who else makes offers for Prior. (Yankees, Red Sox cmon). However, since this is a big move, I have a feeling Hendry will flub it. This B-/C+ GM & organization is good at second tier moves, but not first tier moves.
  9. Are you the guy who has that problem with his keyboard at work? I kind of doubt that Hendry would try to gauge the reaction that way. My guess is that either a) someone just made something up, or b) some person lower down that Hendry talks to told someone else. (much quieter) yes I am, I appologize I am just wishfully thinking Hendry is testing the waters so to speak..this trade idea makes me physically sick Quite possible. Perhaps they're trying to motivate Prior a little?? Who knows.
  10. Jones isn't an everyday guy either, but for different reasons. True, but he's solid 3/4's of the time, and I'll take a 75% RF over a 33% RF any day of the week.
  11. 2B isn't the most obvious place for him to move. SS move because of decreased range, 2B still need range. I'm thinking 3B or LF. Regardless, once you move him out of SS, the premium you pay for production at SS is more than you should pay for production at 2B. You don't trade young top 10 pitchers for a guy you might have to move in a couple years. I hate when other people post "I have a source" stuff, but I'll do it anyway. Take it with a grain of salt. I would do the same if I were in your position. I have a source I respect who tells me that Mark Prior absolutely hates everything about the Chicago Cubs organization. It's almost a 100% sure thing that he's leaving as a free agent the very instant he can. You could be looking at Tejada for four years versus Prior for three years. Obviously, I don't know this for sure. Just something to consider. What's the problem he can't going surfing in April in Chicago?? I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to head back home to SoCal. The Cubs should just move the franchise to Long Beach. :x It does seem he always wanted to play for SD...at least in my head anyway. Maybe this is just that famous Hendry propaganda machine to get us to dislike Prior like he did with Sosa. Ah. Is he from San Diego then?? I thought he grew up closer to LA. SD makes lots of sense for any pitcher given the park.
  12. Cmon Rondell White might last 50 games in the OF, if that. He's not an everyday fielder. Would have loved to have him as a platoon though.

  14. I heard on Tuesday that AZ was looking to move Glaus in the next 48 hours and Anaheim looked like the likely destination.
  15. Now they'll just lose in the playoffs 10-9 instead of 10-8. Also, the Cubs shouldn't be compared to the Yankees either. Chicago is not New York City. Not even close.
  16. On the other hand, chicks dig the long ball. Maybe the brain trust thinks everyone will be pacified by another big bat. :-k LOL. True. Too bad the opposition will be hitting more long balls too.
  17. Unless Baltimore throws a ton of players @ Chicago, I can't see Prior being dealt. Hendry's pitching obsessed, and one of the reasons we don't have Tejada now is cause he opted to sign Maddux & Hawkins in 2004. Could have moved Gonzo over to 2b I guess, but then there would have been no beloved Todd. Also, it's doubtful fan reaction will be good.
  18. They aren't even at free agency yet. Sign them to 3-year deals now. If you can give 3/15 to Jones you can give 3/30 to both of these guys. Most likely both get 5-7 years deals that possibly approach $100 million. 3 & 30 was good money 10 years ago. Um, neither one of them is a free agent. You give guys deals like this because they want that first taste of security, and it still leaves them plenty of opportunity to get that big free agent deal. Neither would come close to averaging $10m a year over the next couple years via arbitration. Ah I see. I missed the word "now." Am surprised that you're suggesting spending additional money.

  20. That's a possibility or they think Prior will continue to struggle.
  21. If Prior's dealt, he's a lock for the Hall of Fame. They better get one helluva return.
  22. I can't see pitching-obsessed Hendry making such a deal. If he does this, he's lost his mind. Most likely Fox is full of crap, as usual.
  23. 4 words. 20 million per year. Does he even want to come to Chicago?? Thought he prefers the Coasts.
