  1. What did you want in CF and RF instead? Lets be realistic too and not throw out sign Giles for 3 years or get Abreu for a few prospects and Williams.
  2. I bet there's no platoon.
  3. Nice theory, but it's not like there was a long list of good RF's available. The pickings were thin. RF's not an easy position to fill nowadays.
  4. Now this is a guy I'd be worried about playing over Murton. Dusty might like his "grittiness" or something.
  5. That's a valid concern given Baker's vet fetish, but considering White's poor durability, I don't think he'll eat up much of Murton's time unless Murton really struggles.
  6. Woah, woah, woah... I think JJ sucks. The Cubs 06 are just highly underrated on here right now. I agree that Jones sucks, and I also agree that people are being ridiculously pessimistic. I am not a blue Kool-aid drinker, but a lot of people here are reminding me of lemmings right now. Four keys for the Cubs in 06: 1) Prior pitches atleast 180 innings 2) DLee has a .950ish OPS 3) Demp is still a solid closer. 4) They keep Walker If those 3 things happen the Cubs will be very very good. If all those things don't happen? They will still be pretty solid. Well, if Prior's average again, the season's over. If Prior & Wood return to 2003 form, the 2 year reign of the Cards is over. Was Prior average last year? I'd say he was above average but didn't get enough starts and innings. Anyway, without good pitching this team is toast. I had a problem w/ how he could never go deep into games, but I can agree w/ a little above average.
  7. I'm pretty sure it was White who some member here got to chat it up with on a cruise. IIRC, he loved Chicago. White would be a great pickup at this juncture. Sounds good. Would love to see him coming in late as a pinch hitter. Beats the heck out Macias.

  9. If defense is irrelevant, he's a good pickup, as his ops was over .900 versus lefties last year and his ops was over .800 against lefties from 02-04. About all I remember from his previous stint w/ the Cubs was that he was hurt alot, but he could sure hit when healthy. His arm was brutal though. And I can't remember if he liked it in Chicago??? Is he a good platoon/pinch hit pickup for 2 years and 4-5 million?
  10. I'm not sure about the award, but they gave up a good pospect. I also heard something about Coletti not wanting to deal with the Cubs. Why not? I'm sure he could have gotten a king's ransom from Hendry. If so, he would have. Cmon.
  11. XZero it sounds like Coletti didn't want to deal with the Cubs, and if they did get Bradley they would have had to give up a good prospect. Didn't Oakland give up their minor league position player of the year?
  12. a team w/ a 100 mil payroll shouldn't need platoon buddies for their corner OFer's. Good in theory, but what RF was out there that's far superior? Unfortunately, Giles & Abreu were pipedreams. Bring on Rondell White.
  13. Well, Hendry better either get Tejada and a good platoon man for RF or hope the Cubs have lots of luck in the health department this season. Question: Do the Cubs have any good right handed RF's @ Iowa?? Whatever happened to Kelton??
  14. Bring back Sosa to platoon w/ Jones. ;) Sosa's 2005 vs lefties - .288 .370 .471 2004 - .253 .393 .442 2002-2004 - .293 .402 .497 (probably irrelevent since he's fallen off the cliff). Jones at $5m and Sosa at $1m could give you 825-875 OPS at relatively fair cost. But of course, that couldn't happen given the messy divorce and baggage. There are good options out there...craig monroe, Xavier Nady, Ro White if he cant find a starting job, etc. Ro White there's a name from the past. I wish Randall Simon batted right handed and played right. That guy was awesome!

Of course, Baker would probably start the vet over Jones. ;)
  16. I think they'd be wise to at least throw a semi-decent offer out there. If Philly rejects it, that forces Houston to up its' offer. Even if we don't land him and don't expect to, I think it would be wise to make Houston pay as much as it can if they land him. If Lidge really is on the table I don't think the Cubs can match the Astros. Agree cause there's no way Hendry gives up Prior or Z.

Even if we don't land him and don't expect to, I think it would be wise to make Houston pay as much as it can if they land him. My guess is that they have, but Philly wants a better pitcher. If Williams had another solid year under his belt perhaps a deal could be made.
  18. Year, I'm just going by past rumors, as I think the Cubs don't have the right package of players for Philly & Abreu, so they're moving on.
  19. Daily Herald Even Rotoworldpoints to the suntimes article Good work listing all the various links, but I bet this goes through in the next few days, and then Hendry starts focusing on Tejada and a starting pitcher.
  20. The pitching isn't the problem. Good pitching can take a team a long way. Do you see Williams as a solid #3 next year?
  21. I have faith in him, but I think his value is as a starter, and I'm afraid they signed Glendon for that role. Didn't Dusty favor Williams over Rusch as a starter last year?? Can't see anything that would change that.
  22. Good to see there's lots of faith in JWill. Guess this team isn't so horrible afterall. Hawk for JWill = another steal
  23. Without a doubt. Considering his recent health, I wouldn't be surprised to see him take a 2 year extension and run. Could be a wise business decision. Washington is a team without an owner and as such is in no position to be offering contract extensions like this. This "deal" is not in the realm of possibility. Is there any chance Kerry will get dealt to another team this offseason? do you really honestly care if there's any return on him or are you just so eager to get rid of him that you'd take a much lesser player, a player likely to get no important innings, pay all of wood's salary just to be rid of him? i honestly don't understand the hate for wood at all. If he's dealt, they better get a good return. Would be nice to have more money freed up tho.
