  1. Ah. Just heat of the moment stuff. Sosa isn't notorious for dirty play, so I'll give him a pass. It's good to see him hitting a little. I'm pretty sure he was a juicer, but I don't want to see him go out in disgrace.
  2. My lineup would be: 1. 2B-Walker 2. CF-Hairston 3. 1B-Lee 4. 3B-Ramirez 5. RF-Burnitz 6. SS-Garciaparra 7. LF-Murton 8. C-Barrett Hairston/Walker and Barrett/Murton being interchangable...meaning I wouldn't mind Hairston #1 and Walker #2 (which is what would happen), either. I like that lineup, however, I highly doubt the "manager" will start Murton.
  3. Lets face it.. Murton could go 50 for his next 50 and Stubborn Dusty Baker won't start him. In Dusty's "mind" Encarnacion's proven, and actually Encarnacion's having a solid year. With Cincy and Tampa Bay seemingly impossible to deal with, perhaps the Cubs can get Encarnacion on the cheap. He's a definite upgrade over Hollandsworth w/ his .364 ops and .854 ops. I'm guessing Encarnacion's stats come out better when adjusting for park. Altogether, he's 150 points above the awful Hollandworth, who should never get another start.
  4. Yep, they need another pitcher, with Escobar out. Perhaps Chicago, Florida and Anaheim can work something out.
  5. Should Nomar bat 2nd or 6th?? I'd rather go w/ Walker batting 2nd for a while and let Nomar work the kinks out at the 6th spot. It's not like he could do much worse than Hollandworth.
  6. Anaheim's loaded w/ prospects, but I can't really think of any everyday players who may be available and could help the Cubs... Now throw a third team in there wanting prospects and a deal could work. Perhaps they could help the Cubs work out a deal w/ SF for Schmidt.
  7. 1) Fixed it for you 2) Giles is not the hitter he once was, and is on the downswing. No thanks.[/b] 1. Maybe the Cubs can force Wood out by making him a reliever. 2. Giles would be a great 2 hitter. His obp is .433. The only hurdle is the manager. Get Giles out of the grand canyon in SD and his power numbers may go up some.
  8. Haven't they placed Manny on waivers a few times the past couple of years?? 1. Since Manny makes so much, the market will be pretty thin. 2. A team like Boston can afford to take a chance on Wood.
  9. Trade them Wood (for salary reasons), Patterson and Murton for Manny. Then go out and sign Giles. Lineup: CF. Hairston RF. Giles LF. Manny 1B. Lee 3B. ARam 2b. Walker C. Barrett SS. Cedeno
  10. I'm sitting behind my desk and wasn't able to watch the game today. Describe the hit he had today that drove in the tying run, por favor. The rf lost it in the sun. It still would have scored the run from 3rd if caught though. Murton did what he needed to do. Holla would have K'd for the 4th time.
  11. Holla has to be leading the league in LOB or it sure seems like it. I really hope Nomar's back soon so can either put him at #6 or move Walker there. Lee and ARam are getting stranded alot of late.
  12. If Murton was 27 for 27, he still wouldn't be starating. He just doesn't have Holla's experience w/ leaving men stranded on base.
  13. 7/27 ~ Macias leading off. Just fold the tent Dusty. :x
  14. Fixing the bullpen huh? Give Baker a $140 mil roster and he could possibly win it all. You must be a big Billy Beane fan then, huh? Seriously, though, exactly how do you believe RC overvalues the walk? (And I'd prefer a quantative explaination w/respect to the RC formula to the generic "walks don't drive in runs" variety.) This isn't a trick question as RC really isn't a theoretically sound model for run production. In actual practice, however, it has proven to be a decent measure of overall production in 95% of all cases. (This would include a comparison of Soriano to Walker...) You think a walk and single should have equal value?? Also, since a home run is a sure run, it's value should be more than 4. I like haveing some guys who can take walks, but I'm sick of the obsession w/ the walk. If the Cubs had a budget of 250 million, perhaps they could find 8 guys who can walk and hit for power. A walk is a lot more valuable than a ball put into play. Just as a win for a pitcher is subject to actions outside of his control so is a hit (unless it is a home run). A home run's a ball in play. Hate to break this but single > walk.
  15. Here's a few quantative example and hopefully my understanding of RC = OBP * TB is correct... If runners are on second and third, and Walker walks, but Soriano gets a single and drives in both players, doesn't James rate this as equal run creation?? However, Soriano creates 2 runs, whereas Walker leaves it to someone else and he may just get stranded.

  17. Just make them eat Kerry's deal for next year. If dugout dollars is correct, the difference in Manny and Kerry's pay is $7 million for 2006. Also, since Boston has been waiving Manny, I bet they'd roll the dice and give Wood an extension. Throw the Red Sox Dopriak and perhaps another prospect. The Cubs would owe Manny $38 in 2007 and 2008. Not bad considering his production. Also, w/ the Cubs brininging in fans by the millions, they'll most likely be raising revenue, so there shouldn't be a budget problem. If the Red Sox wanted a injury prone pitcher that's never won 15 games, why not just take A.J. Burnett - at least he's healthy now. Kerry Wood is damaged goods that no team would touch, let alone give an extension to. Cause Florida wouldn't take Manny.

  19. The problem with that is nobody is going to want Wood that bad this offseason until he proves he can do something without injuring himself. And he has a fairly sizeable contract as well. And why would Boston want Maddux at his age? They will have Schilling coming back at full strength and would not have a need for Maddux really. To get Manny we would have to give them a lot more than an injured wood. It would take something more like Hill, Dopirak, Wood and maybe even more, they aren't just going to give away someone who is still putting up some of the best offensive numbers in baseball. On the downside Manny's defensive and hustle makes ARam's hustle on the basepaths look incredible. Manny dog's every everything and he is largely aided by the green monster with his defense. Seeing as though it is a short porch and gives pretty consistent bounces unlike Wrigley I would do whatever we could to get Manny without totally giving up on all our prospects. You think they would take Neifi or Macias off our hands? Maybe Nomar sign and trade back to Boston? Boston may be pretty happy to see Manny's monster contract gone. Didn't they place him on waivers a few years ago?? This is kind of reminiscent of the Sosa fiasco where the two sides just could not coexist any longer, however, Manny's still quite productive. There shouldn't be too big of market for Manny as only the big market teams can afford him. Perhaps Dopriak would need to be thrown in, but not him and Hill. As for throwing in Maddux, that's just wishful thinking. Hence the :) If Wood looks strong in spring training hopefully that's enough to make such a deal work.
  20. Sure. Trade them Wood, Maddux and a filler in the offseason. Lee, Manny and ARam >> Edmonds, Pujols and Rolen. I know there's a slim chance of Maddux and Wood both accepting a trade, but can always hope. :) The chances are probably better w/ dealing off Wood cause Boston may give him a 1 yr. extension. At this point, I'd rather see Williams and Hill starting next year, with the Cubs picking up an FA for 06. Maybe Schmidt.
  21. The Cubs offense needs a 6th hitter, with a good slugging %, and if Nomar comes back then they have a #2 hitter. One last thing about Walker there's probably a good reason why he's paid $2.5 million. Maybe Bill James would give him $5 million, but I don't see anyone hiring him to be gm. They can't because he's too busy helping Theo Epstein on the World Champion Red Sox. Fixing the bullpen huh? Give Baker a $140 mil roster and he could possibly win it all.

  23. Are the Giants looking to dump Durham's salary?? Perhaps that could help ease the number of prospects needed. Durham's obp is 27 points higher than Walker's. Just send SF Walker & Remlinger to ease some of the financial burden.
  24. yeah, he keeps getting hurt because he's not mentally willing his labrum not to fray. that's definitely it. matter of fact, the coaching staff told him a way to throw that would make him 100% healthy and the most dominating pitcher in mlb, but he said, 'no way, suckers. you guys are stupid, and i'll do things how i want.' that was right after the cubs told patterson how to turn into willie mays, but he ignored them and then went out to not sign autographs for little kids and swing at high fastballs. Very clever. I keep reading that his mechanics are a problem.
