  1. We both agree that Pierre has to get on base more, but as far as Youkilis goes, he was shoved into the position of being a leadoff hitter when Crisp went down and other than striking out too often and having little speed, he's done exactly what's been asked of him. As far as Ortiz and Manny are concerned, neither of them are setting the world on fire right now. Manny has been pretty much equivalent to our own A Ramirez and although Ortiz has plenty of RBI's which is great, his average isn't where it should be either. Manny has been significantly better than Aramis thus far. I guess it's up to personal opinion as to what "significant" means. A Ram - 25 R, 9 HR, 24 RBI M Ram - 27 R, 11 HR, 29 RBI Considering one plays for a 2nd to last place team and the other plays for a 1st place team, Manny doesn't qualify as being "significantly" better in my book. Average? OBP? SLG?
  2. It's not the stats, it's the steroid suspicion. Bonds' numbers are too amazing to ignore, but some voters can probably easily look past Sheff's.
  3. Jeter is very overrated by the casual baseball community and underrated by the sabr community. I like him.
  4. what's this about prior's velocity being down? christ.
  5. the tigers suck and i can't wait until they collapse
  6. What is the "Phattie" nickname in reference to? Whatever it is, I'm sure it's lame as hell.
  7. "I'd like to thank Mr. Hendry and the Cubs for this 3 year extension."
  8. If you know math so well, you understand that 10+ stints on the DL, missed starts, etc, is a far better predicate than 2 consecutive starts (against the worst teams in the NL). It's called math, people. i don't think you get it. No, I don't. Please Explain. IT'S A JOKE. Someone a couple days ago said there's a 100% chance Prior will be injured next season, because he's been injured his first 4 or 5 seasons. That was what my post was in reference to.
  9. Yes, because Cuban would instantly bring his "talents" to Chicago which would equate in a world series. Can he keep Wood and Prior's shoulders intact and healthy? Can he fuse Lee's broken wrist back in 24 hours with no recovery time? If so, I'm all for hoping he buys the Cubs. Seriously, what would Cuban bring other than an arrogant owner with a mouth as big as his wallet? THE CUBS WOULD STILL SUCK WITH A HEALTHY LEE, PRIOR, AND WOOD.

  11. Right. Because we don't know what happens next. Are you in denial? Do you not see a patern here? If we have a patern repeat itself 5 times, isn't that a pretty good indication that it will repeat again? Since he made his last start there's a 100% chance he'll make this next start. It's called math, people.
  12. i'd do prior/jones/prospect for arod + cash.

    LMAO

I guess Maddux still sucks afterall.
  14. he's probably the greatest cub of all time
  15. Apparently you still ground out with it, vs. the high Wrigley grass.
  16. That stupid Florida short grass prevented Juan from getting a hit there.
  17. that's amazing.
  18. Badger is my new buddy. He is just cracking wise on me because of a game day thread the other nite. I assailed ARam (pre-streak), which upset the sensibilities of those present because we all must follow blindly the opinions of the group and not have ideas of our own. blahblahblah i've been watching the game forever i don't need no stats and now everyone's ganging up on me because i'm a rebel
  19. what? Z? Eyre? Dempster? Howry? what have they done to deserve you ignominy? guilt by association. barrett made me temporarily happy when he punched aj pierzynski. i hate the cubs right now. so naturally i have a strong dislike to anyone in that uniform.
  20. barrett punching aj pierzynski still makes me happy.
  21. i've said it before. the only cub i do not hate right now is michael barrett.
  22. if the rangers are already eating some salary and we could convince the yankees to eat just a little bit, it could be the steal of the century. but this is the cubs.
  23. What do you mean by "manufacture runs?" I can't tell if that was a sarcastic question or not It's not a sarcastic question. I'm with you about the lack of OBP. But it sounds like you're in favor of "manufacturing runs" instead of "Weaver-ball." Players with high OBP are usually also players who hit a lot of homeruns. It sounds to me like you want to have high OBP without relying on homeruns. That would be hard to do. Players in the top 40 in OBP last year with fewer than 15 homers: Luis Castillo, Placido Polanco, Sean Casey, Joe Mauer, and Bill Mueller. I really don't know how we could field a high-OBP team that "manufactured runs" without relying on power. I think you missed the point of his post. He meant that the Cubs have always sucked at manufacturing runs, but they could get away with that sometimes due to the fact they also hit a lot of homeruns. Now that the Cubs can't hit homeruns and we still suck at manufacturing runs, our suckiness is even more obvious. I thought he was endorsing Weaverball, if anything.
