  1. Im just pointing out that coaching a player to an MVP 10+ years ago isnt a great indicator of success as a Bears coach.
  2. And Martz' offensive players won 3 straight MVPs. Two of thsoe by a QB that bagged groceries or something the year before.
  3. If we have determined that a 10-6 season is not good enough and 10 years of a mean record of 9-7, 10+ wins 4 times and less than 8 wins 3 times. As a fan ive been engaged for 16 or 17 weeks every year since his first year. Granted our postseason success has not been great, but (and i like Jay) teams that have had more success than the bears over the last 10 years have generally had a long term fanchise QB better than Jay. If you are going to replace a coach that has given you results that Lovie has, he better be a sure-fire winner with an indisputable ability to do the job. Let the Jags hire trestman. Also this new OC was the line coach for Trestman's oakland offense. Im not happy recreating the 2003 oakland staff (which interestingly Jim Harbaugh was on).
  4. But this just isnt true. He was the OC for both the 49ers and Raiders transition from Glory to Joke and then OC'd a horrendous NC State team. Who knows whats been going on in the CFL, the only CFL I have ever seen is when they show it during beer or tv commercials because they cant get NFL rights.
  5. So we hired an HC and OC who collectively haven’t called an offensive play in the NFL since 2002 (im not sure if Bill Callahan wasn’t the playcaller for OAK so we might have to go back to the ‘96 niners). Hes good with quarterbacks? Our most meaningful player feedback is coming from guys who appear in techmo superbowl.
  6. I refuse to give anybody but peyton manning credit for peyton mannings success.
  7. Why would Trestman have this unparalleled upside potential? And Bruce Ariens was pretty much a head coach this past year.
  8. I personally hope that Emery is not influenced by fan, media or even peer reaction and hires the best candidate he thinks is available. I hope there is more than one voice at the table on this one.
  9. Hopefully emery got enough bad feedback after a scare that we hired a CFL coach that he moves forward with the other dozen candidates.
  10. Why cant we just hire him as QB coach?
  11. there was that one guy that a few games into the year they "took play calling duties" away and then like a game later fired him. I forget who it was but there is a precedent to almost firing a guy before you fire him.
  12. What is this about Emery's processes that have been so impressive?
  13. Bulls fans in 90 thought we should never hire the CBA coach too. PJ was on the Bulls staff for years before he was made head coach. Completely different.
  14. This is a joke. If this is true Emery is a chump. This guy hasnt been in the NFL since 04. Hes list job in US football was NC state's OC job and NC State sucks. We hired a guy who last coached in the united states under Chuck Amato? For the last 5 years this guy has been coaching at a completely different level of play. 12 men on the field, 3 downs, a 20 yrd deep endzone. Its a very gifferent game for a coach. Notwithstanding him boning up on actual football, you know on the side, hes missed the innovations in the nfl game for the last 5 years. This is the worst hire i have ever seen.
  15. A heisman campaign elevates a players stature and marketability. It provides a big lift for a program in recruiting, helps the team get more coverage, and probably in some capacity influences the preseason rankings (which has a pretty big impact). In the draft I do believe the players popularity/noteriety influences things somewhat. For example if tyrann mathieu gets selected with a pick of any value its due to the exposure he got last year. And obviosuly Tebow doesnt get taken in the first round if he played in the sun belt.
  16. case keenum wasn't drafted. i don't see the point, here. Hes short and slight, had a low release and played for a mid-major. Comparison was made as evidence of Sumlin’s style favoring a QB statistically. Manziel is already a huge star and will likely continue to put of massive numbers in the SEC and possibly contend for a national title and another Heisman. This will push up his draft stock. Assuming his production remains somewhat consistent he will be a top ten pick. Christian Ponder was taken 12th overall and is a success story.
  17. Hes already a cultural phenomenon which definately impacts the draft. Considering Sumlin had Case Keenum obliterate the major passing records, I dont see why manziel cant be a heisman candidate 2-3 more times. Fanbases will riot when franchises pass on him. He wont go #1 overal but baring injury or a deviation from his likely career path, he will be picked early in the 1rst round. Looking at this years QB stock, he might go top first half of the first round if eligable. Luke joeckel will be a better pro but a&m is not losing their best player. Any college coach would swap a future all-pro tackle for a world class college playmaker with bad pro projections.
  18. Huge sums on South Carolina, fsu, Clemson, and ksu I think south Carolina would beat down nd and would favor fsu, Clemson (who was a seen pt favorite vs gamecocks in rivalry week) and ksu would probably also would be more likely to win on a neutral field.
  19. Which of those teams would you take even money odds nd would be beat on a neutral field?
  20. I would say in no order bama, Oregon, a&m, USC, Georgia, fsu, lsu, Clemson, florida and ksu would all be favored in a neutral field game against nd or osu. Based on the way rankings are made, of course nd and osu both deserve to be top 5 teams but in actual terms there are 8 or 9 teams I'd take over both. Possibly Stanford as well despite nd's heads up home ot win. Nd had great year and obviously did a lot to help current and future hauls. I'm not saying they aren't a good team I'm just saying there are a lot of teams who could either beat bama or give them a game and it's obvious nd was never going to do either. If osu was eligible they would have played nd for the national championship.
  21. OU? I'd put them right in that second tier with a bunch of schools. They played several good teams but only 1 great defense, got shut down, and basically played to a stalemate (and ultimately lost). Seems to me it's Bama and then a bunch of teams behind them that are harder to separate. I don't know that you can put any one of them definitively ahead of the pack. I dont know. Clemson moved it better and dominated the 4rth quarter but it took massive coaching blunders from les, a 4th and 25 conversion and a fg at th buzzer to win. I agree on the second tier mess but put Oregon in it and have 4 sec teams in it and a few other teams probably not Ohio state or nd. I also think that second tier could all beat Nama if they played a great game or bama laid a steamer.
  22. Florida and LSU getting wins against A&M make them better than Alabama using your transitive property. And I would still call LSU better than Clemson after having seen them play each other. But I would imagine that LSU, Florida, Georgia, and Oregon would each lay a few points against ND. I pick those four because had lsu beaten bama they would have been the four most likely to be #2.
  23. The Saban "more time to prepare" argument is ridiculous. Saban is not some game prep mastermind that you cant beat him given extra time. He had two weeks to prep for Cam Newton and lost, and pretty sure him and les both had two weeks to prep before the 2010 and 2011 games that LSU won, and Saban could have spent every day of the season prepping for LSU this year (they played trash between Mich and LSU) and they made Zach Mettenberger look like Tom Brady. If it weren’t for a 45 second drive vs LSU it wouldn’t have been bama, it’d have been LSU/Georgia/Oregon/Florida vs ND and ND would have probably gotten beaten by those teams as well. Saban isn’t some mastermind and bama is not unbeatable. They got to the title game by playing 3 top teams, a home loss and two comeback wins. They just look great now because they played a weak national championship opponent.
  24. I assumed butch would take the ND job after Kelly leaves to coach the dallas cowboys.
  25. The one guy in this thread should stop making comparisons between manziel's candidacy and cam newtons.
