  1. What's Bob saying? How could he possibly be defending that play?
  2. How in the world did he not score? What happened?
  3. What are those numbers? 14 IP, 3H, 1R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 21 K Double for Bilbo!
  4. Yawn - another gem from Harden. 14-3-1-1-0-21 his last two starts. Wow. Too many pitches, though.
  5. That was a pretty impressive nine innings of pitching, there.
  6. 96-96-95 on those last three to Votto. That was a serious switch into overdrive there.
  7. Any idea which game Harden will start, Bruce? Selfishly, I sure hope it's the early game. WGN radio report thats Marquis will pitch the first game and Harden will go against Campillo. The pitching matchups are better that way.

  9. Anybody but the Brewers. We're better than anyone else in the league, but Milwaukee is clearly the second best team for my money. I would be thrilled (and shocked) if they don't make the playoffs.
  10. Why on Earth anyone would want Blanton is beyond me. He's terrible. Away from Oakland's pitching heaven he's always sucked, and this year he's sucked everywhere. Burnett is certainly available - there have been way, way too many sources who don't claim anonymity attesting to that. In terms of ability vs. cost in talent to get him, he's by far the best option.
  11. No way. Sabean made the commitment in the offseason to build around Lincicum and Cain, and the Giants have actually been better than most predicted this season. No reason he'll bail on the plan now.
  12. It's in between the level of the majors and the level of AAA. I agree, but I would put it closer to the major league level than AAA. The athletes are flat-out better here - bigger hitters, harder fastballs. But fundamentals ball is better there, and pitchers generally have better control and work the plater better.
  13. See, y'll just had to listen to The Deeg - I told you this 45 minutes ago. Nikkansports (and the Deeg) is never wrong!
  14. Called as in predicted or called as in "confirmed?" Somewhere in between, though my kana recognition will win no awards. It sounded pretty definitive, but I don't think it was "confirmed" in the sense of, the agent confirmed it.
  15. Can you provide the link to the nikkansports page you're alluding to. Let me see if I can translate better. Here ya go http://www.nikkansports.com/baseball/mlb/p-bb-tp2-20071212-294484.html
  16. In light of the silly talk of 5/70, let's not forget Alderson said this: We didn't make a $60 million or a $50 million offer," Alderson said. Alderson wouldn't be more specific than to say the offer is somewhere between the $30 million given to Brian Giles in December 2005 and the pending $52 million extension for Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy, which will be the biggest deal in team history. Nikkansports - supposedly reliable - has apparently called Fuku to the Cubs. The translations are awful, so I won't stand by the information.
  17. I don't believe it. No way the Pads outbid us. I just can't see that happening. I agree - but I don't think they have to, they just have to get close. It's very possible Kaz Matsui's awful experience in NY has soured his HS teammate on media-heavy, high-pressure US markets. Mind you, I don't think SD offered 5/70 - I think 4/44 is more likely - but it seems Hendry will for sure have to go 5 years and $12m per to be able to overcome the mitigating factors.
  18. According to the dudes on the Comcast Sports show a few minutes ago, Dan Plesac said earlier today that he felt Fukudome and Roberts were an "either or proposition" and that the Cubs wouldn't go after both of them. Which led to a discussion of which one would you prefer and a lot of discussion on how much Fuk's Japanese stats should be discounted. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
  19. Um... Rios is three years away from FA. And if you're going to build an offense, you have to start somewhere. I never really understood this argument - if they can't completely transform their offense now, they shouldn't try at all? You have to build one guy at a time, and it's not as if Rios is a short-term fix - he hasn't even turned 27 or reached his prime yet. Rios is exactly the sort of guy the Giants should be using to start their rebuilding process.
  20. The staff has the potential to be dominant. Zito, Cain, Lincecum, Lowry and Sanchez is the foundation for turning things around. Trade the crap players on offense at the deadline to improve the offense and make some decent FA pick ups and this team "could" be right back in the saddle in 2009. Trade the quality arms, and you have absolutely no shot of turning things around anytime soon. That makes no sense, as none of the "crap" players on offense has any trade value whatsoever. Offensively the Giants are a AAA team - and not an especially good one at that. If you want an impact guy via trade, Lincicum and Cain are pretty much the only arrows in the quiver. Now, I would rather trade Cain than Lincicum and you can certainly debate whether or not Rios is the impact guy you want - but I think he is, and I would reluctantly make this deal if I were Sabean.
  21. Sorry, but there's no way Fuku is hitting .260. He hit .294 with one arm last year, and .351 before that. He might not pop 20 HR+, but he's hitting .285 minimum.
