  1. The Giants have plenty enough to make a very strong offer too, if they so choose.
  2. It is an odd-looking stroke, isn't it? Kind of like a left-handed Lee Trevino golf swing.
  3. Cubs reportedly have a deal with Zagunis - 615K (100K under slot).
  4. I don't think the Cubs are even entertaining the possibility that Schwarber can be a full-time catcher. They probably like the idea that he can give them roster flexibility as a 3rd catcher or a guy who can start once a week, but full-time he's strictly a LF.
  5. The Tigers picked Matt Anderson with the #1 overall pick.
  6. It's solid. Huge upside with Medeiros. Higher than I expected him to go, but he's a definite 1st-round talent.
  7. Yes, I think the Sox will steal Rodon at 3 if Rodon slips.
  8. Don't know that much about him personally, except the usual "low 90s fastball" you hear about 90% of HS pitching prospects this time of year. MLB.com has him listed at #55 FWIW, so he could go in the second round quite easily.
  9. Yeah, Correa is definitely a bum. If you only land the 2nd best player in the draft (debatably) that's definitely a botch job.
  10. That has zero chance of happening. I think the Cubs can get one - I think they'll insist, in fact, as they'll need a guy who's close to the big leagues. One of those two, Harvery or Rodriguez (not both) and Sisco is a realistic deal, with maybe a decent A-ball prospect to pad it out. Throw them Russell or Wright as part of the deal. I still like that deal. I don't have a preference between Gausman and Bundy, but I really like Harvey over ERod. I think the Cub's could throw in Christian Villanueva also. Machado is moving to SS next year, and Villanueva would give them a cost effecient option at 3rd. (Bryant deservedly gets the bump to AAA in the scenerio too). Gausman, Harvey, Sisco, and Mike Yastrzemski for Samardzija and Christian Villanueva might get it done for me. Not that Jed and Theo take any of my calls. I'd still like the Rockies to top that. I think the basic framework here is solid, and I doubt the Cubs could do better than getting Gausman and Harvey as the centerpieces of any Shark deal. But I certainly wouldn't throw in Villanueva if Yastrzemski was the 4th piece - Villanueva is certainly the better prospect between those two.
  11. $$$ Don't have to pay him those big AAA bucks. The minute you promote Bryant to AAA, you open the door to promoting him to Chicago if he tears it up there, too.

  13. Most reports have had Nola at 90-93, with Fitt's being the only one that really pegged him consistently in the mid 90s. Throwing every five days he's likely be an 89-92 MPH guy in the majors.
  14. Law pulls [expletive] out of thin air (if you prefer that analogy) all the time. Callis is certainly connected, but Law places the priority on trying to look like a genius.
  15. It's just a classic Law asspull, saying something ridiculous on the off chance that if it turns out to be true, he looks like a genius. Never happen.
  16. I'm sanguine about Villanueva and I agree he shouldn't impact the decisions for an elite guy like Bryant, but he's a solid B prospect and to say he's been "complete garbage" is nonsense. He's OPS-ing .700 in his first month in AAA as a 22 year-old, and playing his usual excellent 3B. He's been remarkably consistent throughout his minor league career and he'll likely end up right where he usually is by the end of the season - in the high .700s, with 12-18 HRs and a ton of doubles. He's not an elite guy but he's not garbage by any means.
  17. If that's your worry, any time through 2018 is likely to be fine.
  18. I think it's maybe 40-60 one of the top three falls to the Cubs, and 80-20 it's Kolek if one does. Philosophically I agree with their preference for hitters with picks this high, but if one of the big three does drop, I think you have to risk it. There's just no one position player that stands out. I also don't get the stampede to move Jackson off C if you draft him. He might make the majors sooner as an outfielder - so what? Don't you need a catcher at some point? If Jackson can catch, that's where his peak value is. If he can't, I wouldn't even consider him at 4.
  19. Doesn't draw many walks, too many bonehead plays defensively...
  20. Very much agree. "Experts" frequently fall in love with guys who're sons of major leaguers and overrate them as a result. A few of them deserve it, but like Callis I see limited upside with Gordon.
  21. I don't see any way the Cubs take Finnegan - that strikes me as BA pretty much talking out of their backside. Personally, I still think Turner is going to be a terrific major league player and I wouldn't go by what Law says, as he's disliked Turner all along. I don't see the Cubs taking him at 4 but I think it'd be a good pick. More realistically, I'd sooner take Jackson on BPA grounds than a deep reach for the 4th-best pitcher in a three-pitcher draft.
