  1. I'd love me some McKee as our Sopel replacement.
  2. I think the problem with that is that he's owed like 90k at Rockford and 850 or so up with the big club. I know it's some ridiculous disparity that makes him too expensive this year. i was told it's 67k or 900k. in which case i understand. i like leddy, but he may be best suited for next year. he's only 19. Thanks, I knew it was something crazy. He'll need another year or so of seasoning anyways I think

  4. It feels so nice to have one team in this city where I trust that the front office knows what they are doing.
  5. I definitely see both of your points SSR/JCF. I'm possibly injecting my own person opinion in on this matter where I'd rather be the starting goalie for a cup contender at 2 million then play with another team for 2.75. Not a drastic difference in cash especially speaking with a 1 year deal. Oh well, I'm thrilled about Turco at 1.3
  6. They wanted 4 million at the hearing while the Hawks just signed a goalie with comparable (in some cases) better numbers for 1.3 million. How is that overvalue? If I had to bet, he's going to sign for less per year than 2.75 otherwise I think the Hawks would have signed and traded him at that number. Whatever teams that are interested in him have to believe they can do better than that number. The market on goalie's contracts is down.
  7. 1.3 for Turco according to http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=329318 Less than half of Niemi's deal. Such a no brainer it's not even funny. Niemi's agent hilariously overvalued him it seems.
  8. I wonder if they'd try and play him more frequently though. Turco is old, and if they are thinking beyond next year they probably want to see if Crawford is worth bringing back. Yea, I was just thinking that. Maybe pushing Crawford starts up to the 25-28 range. Here's fun food for thought, if Turco's contract really is that cheap it's possible Kyle Beach will be making more than our #1 goalie
  9. The Score reporting the hit is between 1-1.5 which would be amazing. Basically ensures Beach is a Hawk if he earns it plus gives us even a bit more wiggle room They'll count on Crawford as much as any team uses their backup. Health issues not withstanding, he'll probably get 20ish starts
  10. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=535332 Official. Niemi walking, Turco signed. Looks like 1.75 which is great. :yahoo: I wonder if Niemi will talk with San Jose now. Would be ironic since it was their offer that pushed the price up on Hammer slightly more than the Hawks wanted that ultimately contributed in us losing Niemi
  11. It's one of two options at this point 1) Sign Niemi and trade him because we can't make 2.75 work 2) Sign Turco who is rumored to already been in negotiations/verbal agreement/close to signing at 1 year 1.75 Niemi can think his agent when he's playing in Edmonton next year.
  12. I'm fully expecting that it's going to be a conference announcing Niemi's departure and the addition of either Theodore or Turco. Agreed.
  13. Wow, Garza is going to be pretty busy. Damn.
  14. That stinks, I thought it was 90%. You're right, I could see San Jose/Philly offering him at least 81% of the award should the Hawks walk away. I know the Arbitrator gets 48 hours and then the Hawks get 48 hours, but does anyone know if it's typical for the arbitrator to take that much time? This weekend's convention presents the possibility of some interesting questions. I thought about the convention before with all of this. Would make a nice McD type marketing ploy to announce Niemi resigning
  15. I think that's the number I've heard too, just not sure where. I think the arbiter is going to side with Niemi just because he is probably 'worth' (based of the Stanley Cup) closer to the 4 than the 2 the Hawks would want to pay. He's good as gone I think. I'm perfectly comfortable with Turco/Theodore next year including the additional cap space for another signing or having Beach up on the big club. Looking out over the market, I'm not sure what team Niemi or his agent thinks is going to offer him 3.5m+ per year right now.
  16. I still think we'll get Niemi for somewhere between $2.5-3.25mil and will be able to squeeze him in. Don't think this team will be carrying Beach, as some have assumed previously. That thought definitely has to be in Stan's mind. Is Niemi THAT much better than Turco/Theodore where it would outweigh the contributions Beach would bring if he makes the team(which I think he would) I lean no...
  17. Our goalies next year will be Theodore/Turco and Crawford unless Niemi is willing to take around oh, 2 million per year probably.
  18. Shocking that a team isn't going to play 20M plus for our 4th outfielder.
  19. Agreed completely. If Aramis performs up to his career averages next year, you are getting a deal at 14.6m. Take him out of this lineup for next year, where in world are your RBI's coming from? Obviously, the Cubs should speak with his agent and try to get a feel if he's going to take the option or not and act accordingly. If the team gets no signal from Aramis one way or the other then you plan to keep him going into next year with only two scenarios possible and neither one of them bad: A) He stays on next year and you get a really good player for a bit below market value or B) he opts out and that's 30m over the next two years that we don't have to play.
  20. I love Bob Brenly. "If they had a category for mental errors, the Cubs would be leading the universe." Welcome to the 2010 Cubs
  21. I can definitely see how Ryne is on the manager path considering the success he has had in the minors. Not to sound all meatball, but I just don't want one of my favorite players of all time in any sport thrown into a managers job when he has no experience and very little chance for success. If the Cubs were really serious about grooming him as a manager in waiting, he's up here next year as a Bench/3rd base coach and observes the MLB game from a coaches perspective. I'd bet (hope) he would adjust some of his opinions about Saber and Small ball.
