  1. I agree with you to a certain extent. I'm not willing to boot someone out of the HOF because they took some speed to stay awake for the game after partying all night at the night club the previous night. I'd bet that's the biggest reason most of those guys were popping pills back then, and not that they actually believed that these pills would somehow improve their production. However, the HOF is basically a joke anyway. Why we constantly argue about this is actually rather amusing. Ron Santo is not in the HOF. That right there makes the HOF a joke all by itself. After pointing that out, and then looking at who actually votes for the people to be elected, all discussion about the validity of the HOF goes right out the window. They can vote in Roger Clemens and Mark McGuire and whoever else they want to vote in. It won't matter one bit to me. You won't see me there. this is very true...in the end it really won't matter because they will already be tagged and loved/hated for individual personal reasons
  2. no, you are implying that this is what i am saying cheating is cheating...saying a form of cheating carries a little bit more weight currently doesn't mean i condone past offenses So you want the other cheaters to get their own wing of the HOF? no...they don't need to...by the by they weren't cheating because it wasn't being enforced as such back then apparently folks here are having a hard time getting a grasp on the concept of my opinion being based upon my belief that the steroid era is the biggest black eye, if you will, for this game it is for this reason, and the performance enhancing drug usage, that i feel they should get their own separate wing in the hall...or maybe not even be put in the hall at all the other types of cheating pale in comparison you may feel like everyone needs to get in and that is that, but i don't, oh well...it happens
  3. right vance, i forgot that if someone doesn't think the way you do, they are wrong No, my point is that it's quiet intellectually dishonest to say that one form of cheating should deny someone of the highest honor and that another form of cheating should be overlooked without some empirical reason for doing so. In a previous post, you admitted to taking greenies. That makes me wonder if you don't vilify those because you have committed the same act, while you condemn ones who have taken another form of cheating. Both steroids and amphetamines can increase performance. Both also can cause health problems. It's not that you're wrong, it's that you are inconsistent. You're trying to argue degrees because it's the only way to support your position. The problem is that there is no evidence other than speculation to support your claim. So, you're welcome to your opinion. If you like having uninformed, ridiculous opinions, be my guest. I'll continue to call them out for being uninformed and ridiculous, but you are welcome to have them. i enjoy your thoughts, can i come to your class on how to think and respond appropriately?

  5. fine with cheating to a point eh? interestingly enough, i don't remember typing those words so, that proves a point how exactly? you certainly seem to be indicating that you're willing to overlook certain types of cheating because you think they don't provide as much of an advantage, no? greenies = HR record and HOF steroids = Rot in hell just like some members on this board have no problem overlooking everything and life is just do unto others as you would like and get over it right? i have taken greenies...and i didn't gain muscle mass and increased strength what has happened in the steroid era is more destructive to reputation IMO
  6. no, you are implying that this is what i am saying cheating is cheating...saying a form of cheating carries a little bit more weight currently doesn't mean i condone past offenses
  7. again, separation is different than being fine with a certain item

  9. So what is the difference between each type of cheating? when you are apart of an era of players who are demolishing records and pretty much make up almost all of the core of "superstar" talent, i think that makes a huge difference over the cheating in the past... So you're fine with cheating to a point. What's the exact cutoff point? fine with cheating to a point eh? interestingly enough, i don't remember typing those words
  10. While I'm sure there are a few addicts in the HoF (didn't fergie do coke?), I should have said users. Mike Schmidt, Willie Mays, Willie Stargell, and Ralph Kiner all took greenies with the assumption it would improve their performance. I'm sure plenty more HOFers did, too. Hank Aaron. steroids and growth hormone are more of an athletic aid than greenies Thanks doc. no, thank you for adding to the discussion

  13. I don't care if his name does come up. Bonds should be in the HOF. So should Clemens and McGwire and Sosa. We need to stop acting like sniveling children in denial and treating this game like it's some kind of pure institution that was tainted by steroids in the 90's and early 00's. sniveling children in denial? no, i prefer to look at it as men that have let many hearts down men that have spit in the face of fair competition men that were already endowed with gifts that were beyond greedy or better yet...put them in the hall...a special corner spot called "PEDS"...i could live with that The HoF is already littered with racists, drug addicts, and cheaters. Get over it. who are the drug addicts?

All the ridiculous little reasons you just listed apply to anyone who has ever bent or broken the rules over the game's history. Why only set steroids apart? you're joking right? no, i know you aren't...we have a different take on the situation, that is all

  16. Uh, yeah. "Generally" was me being generous. Corked bats and their like are actually detrimental more often than not to a hitter, especially a power hitter, since the cork inside actually allows the bat to absorb more of the energy from the ball. The only "benefit" from them is being able to swing quicker, though that could be accomplished with a legit lightened bat that won't absorb the energy from the ball and kill the distance of your hits. And argue the "unlikely" part besides using the bold function. Sammy wouldn't have had the numbers he had if he was using corked bats. no, i read about it before i bolded those things...apparently they can make the ball fly funny though...but it does cause a slightly decreased power compared to a normal wooden bat... what if i don't want to argue the "unlikely" part...what if i only wanted to point it out you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need
  17. i am not going to pretend to know diddly squat about the pirates minor league system, but i honestly hope you are exaggerating for the team's sake... that is a bloody long time to not put a decent product on the field, surely they can't be but about 5-7 years away at the most, no?
  18. Which actually doesn't help hitters. lol...which one?...because the last time i checked they both did Numerous studies have shown that corked bats generally don't improve hitting, especially in regards to power. At the most it's going to increase the speed of the swing, but it still ultimately comes down to the hitter's eye and timing so that's arguably a wash. Besides, he got caught, he served his time. Done and done, plus it's unlikely he was using them before the downward slide after the shattered helmet.

  20. 4 15 10 8 33 25 36 40 36 66 63 50 64 49 40 35 14 21 lol...yeah...i get it he probably did juice, but he also corked i absolutely can't stand sosa, and now ARoid and Manny have reached that plateau as well
  21. who cares about roids speculation, dude used a corked bat hall of fame? not worthy
  22. Personally, I hope so. Watching him play for the Indianapolis is a pretty enjoyable time. I would really like to see him be successful at the major league level, just not against the Cubs. yeah, he is on his way up as we speak...
  23. I want no part of him on the Cardinals. i think it would be fun to watch...a little duncan dust on ole tommy boy
  24. so, does this mean McCutchen will be rockin the majors soon?
