  1. It might also be worth noting that the Cubs are currently playing at a pace that hasn't been achieved in the last 100 years. Obviously, we have to assume some regression, but it's sort of difficult to use any of the recent successful teams as comparisons. On another note, if you consider how many of our hitters are off to slow starts, it makes me pretty optimistic about the regression aspect.
  2. A lot of people like these self promotional flashy guys that rely on modern analytical techniques but I find them too generic for my tastes. Stone has all the ingredients of a classic analyst and even though he's not native to the area he grew up on the game locally that allows him to speak intelligently on that Cubs. I like fun people. Stone isn't fun to me. Imagine if our color guy next to Len was like the baseball equivalent of Stacey King.
  3. I honestly didn't realize Bryant was a plus defender at third. Maybe I'm just putting too much stock into the occasional ball down the line that he seems to struggle with.
  4. I was asking an honest question. Since we obviously have a few sub-par individual defenders, I am curious how this stuff is computed. First off, Bryant is a plus defender. Second, we're putting Javy there much of the time and he is even better. Bryant rates as plus in the OF, too. Heyward and Russell are amazing. Fowler has rated very highly since they started playing him deeper. Well then. Carry on.
  5. lol We're the #1 or #2 defense in baseball by most measures. I was asking an honest question. Since we obviously have a few sub-par individual defenders, I am curious how this stuff is computed.
  6. I tend to think pretty highly of Stone. I mean, how good is our team defense? We have some studs for sure, but we're also pretty mediocre in some ways. Fowler is average at best in center, Bryant and Zobrist are pretty "meh", and let's not even talk about left field. I'm not going to pretend to know/understand the metrics behind it but fangraphs had indicated that our defense has been very good. Okay, that's basically what I was asking. I was hoping someone could explain to me why he is wrong, since I don't understand advanced stats very well.
  7. I tend to think pretty highly of Stone. He's a real top shelf announcer. I would agree. He's about as good of a color guy as you'll find.
  8. Eh, Eli Manning probably has at least 10 years on that guy.
  9. I love how Stone says stuff and is so sure of himself and he's way wrong. I tend to think pretty highly of Stone. I mean, how good is our team defense? We have some studs for sure, but we're also pretty mediocre in some ways. Fowler is average at best in center, Bryant and Zobrist are pretty "meh", and let's not even talk about left field.
  10. Even if he is medically cleared, I am basically 100% sure that he's not coming back in the playoffs.
  11. Isn't it bad enough that their city's name is German for "Whale's Vagina"? That scene is one of the greatest of all time. "Agree to disagree".
  12. Ah, yes, of course. I'm sure that was your best effort. Your sig pic is more perfectly fitting than you could ever possibly know. I'm assuming that was another attempt at being polite. You're pretty bad at it.
  13. What if that 110 win team can make other teams face Jake Arrieta twice on normal rest? I was about to type basically the same thing. Not to mention, we also have Jon Lester. So, in a 7 game series, 4 of those games will be pitched by those 2 gentlemen.
  14. Are you surprised when you flip a coin 10 times and it comes up heads for 8 of them? What a mysterious question.
  15. Cubbie Swagger, who you crappin? Oh, come on. There isn't even any inconsistency there. Just different phrasing, my friend.
  16. Ah, yes, of course. I'm sure that was your best effort. Yeah, this is pretty much what I was getting at. I know the playoffs are a crap shoot, but I'm wondering how good you have to be before you start tipping the scale.
  17. You're right. It's almost exactly like that.
  18. My question is basically: when you're an actual statistical outlier like the Cubs seem to be, how much does that play into the equation? About as close to absolute zero as possible Well, then. I guess I don't have to wonder anymore.
  19. My question is basically: when you're an actual statistical outlier like the Cubs seem to be, how much does that play into the equation?
  20. I understand the whole crapshoot thing... but was it a crapshoot when the Yankees won 4 rings in 5 years? Are there exceptions? I know it's too early to really tell as far as our club is concerned, but my question is more of a general one.
  21. Yeah, I feel like we're in Golden State Warriors mode right now. The regular season actually does mean something to me this year. If we get anywhere near the wins record, it's gonna be sweet.
