  1. Remember that poster who thought these guys were "gutless, choking dogs?" Ah, fun times.
  2. Yeah, keep this thing going. Time to be dick-swinging Theo. Pay that man his money. Let's go Round 2 with the whole crew.
  3. Well, that's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.
  4. The more I look at it, the more I love it. We are already the class of the league. And nobody else is catching up by splurging on free agents this year. Keep everything just as it was last year, with a little re-tooling here and there.
  5. Hey, it works. I went to a Peoria Chiefs game last year against South Bend to get a Javy Baez bobblehead. They get our money and we get to bask in our success. Win-win.
  6. FWIW, 2016 Jake is about a $25+M a year pitcher. He was. But we also saw how vulnerable he is, with the way he pitches and his mechanics. What is he if he isn't god-mode? Is it a mix of God-mode Jake and Bad Jake like we saw last year? Or does he eventually just become Bad Jake all the time? I think he is a really risky bet long-term at his age.
  7. Theo should get the last laugh and trade him to Toronto.
  8. Honestly, I don't care if any athletes voted for Trump. I can disagree with them. And I can think they are part of the problem. But, I get irrationally angry when people complain about athletes and celebrities voicing their political beliefs. We all have opinions and beliefs. And I would be pissed if someone told me I couldn't have them just because I played sports. So if Jake admitted he is a Trump fan, more power to him. Where I have a problem is with the rhetoric he used here. What he said was incendiary and hateful. If you are going to be a dumb, redneck meathead, then be a dumb, redneck meathead. But don't be an horsefeathers.
  9. Someone needs to Make Arrieta Great Again.
  10. I've always been high on him. But I'm really excited to see him next year. I think he proves all the doubters wrong and puts up a huge season offensively. I think he can certainly be one of the top 10 bats in the league. There are some holes he needs to fix in his swing. But I think he will. I'm drooling at thought of him being in the lineup with Bryzzo.
  11. Yeah, I'm still not down with relievers being valued like this. Look no further than at the Yankees last year. But, we are awesome and we deserve the best at every position. And we've pretty much got everything else taken care of. And, as TT says about our win curve, relievers are much more valuable in the post-season. And that's where we'll be. So let's get that taken care of in the off-season this time. It's the one thing that we can do to make me feel much better about our chances in the post-season. So I'm all in for Jansen.
  12. how the horsefeathers could just being drunk but not coke be more dangerous? That is ridiculous. Ive never done coke but know people who have. From what I understand coke can sober you up from the alcohol, focus you and end your drunken symptoms. This sounds like something a drunk cocaine user would say.
  13. B) and never look back.
  14. And I agree with others' sentiments that, obviously, it wasn't really about doing a favor for a loyal player. At least it wasn't wholly about that. But, the return for Jason Hammel wasn't going to be anything special. And being on the hook for his salary is a risk if you can't find any takers. There might be something there about building goodwill. And I'm sure that factored in. There's probably a lot of stuff that factored in. But all of these factors were of smaller significance. I think this is more a case of them not wanting to sweat the small stuff. Think big. Think really big. If we want another middle reliever -- that would have been a possible acquisition in a trade for Hammel -- there are other ways to get one. We don't need to worry about that stuff, though. Address it. Find a way to fix the minor things. But let's focus on the big things. Let's knock this off-season out of the park like we did last year. Let's not worry about the Jason Hammels of the world.
  15. As to what this means for Fowler: It means nothing. The characterization of this was that it was all about letting a loyal player pick his next adventure. They didn't want to be assholes and ship him off to Atlanta or a horsefeathers hole like Cleveland. They said nothing about costing him money or anything like that. Dex still can go wherever he pleases. He still gets to make the call. Offering him a QO isn't the same thing. Now, they could have an under-the-table agreement not to do so. But the two situations are very different.
  16. Good. Hammel sucks and we deserve better. Clearly they want better. Go make it happen. (Obviously his option was a good deal and all. But, yeah, I've seen enough of Jason Hammel. I want 117.)
  17. I was just re-reading that article from The Players' Tribune from earlier this year. http://www.theplayerstribune.com/cubs-anthony-rizzo-kris-bryant-david-ross-retirement They certainly did.
  18. All the jokes about Heyward's $200 million speech are going to be really funny when he's a 7-win player for the 118-win Cubs next year.
  19. You'd figure they would have just given Schwarber a hat after we won Game 7.
  20. If Dex leaves, Zobrist is pretty much the perfect replacement for him at lead-off. There were 24 guys with at least 350 PA batting first this year. Dex ranked first with a .393 OBP. Zobrist's .386 OBP would have been right behind him in second place. Something like CoolHandLuke's lineup is basically the same thing we've seen all year, except with Schwarber added in Zobrist's place to make our 2-3-4 insane. And then the younger guys behind them have another year of maturity and experience added.
  21. We are going to have a huge influx of cash thanks to all of this, assuming Theo doesn't spend it all on booze.
  22. Holy horsefeathers, Theo using Clark Luca Brasi-style is now my favorite thing. This finally explains how Hammel ended up on the bereavement list in August.
  23. Thankfully Rizzo gave PTR the game ball so he can auction it off and keep this team running. dammit i forgot i wanted to make this joke I wanted to make it after watching the rally but forgot. Luckily I was given another opportunity. But, really, there's never a wrong time for a PTR joke.
  24. I think it is the bootleg mascot. It looks exactly like it. And there's this from the court settlement: http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2014/10/29/7097821/cubs-billy-cub-federal-court-settlement
