  1. It was really jarring to see a photo of Hendricks girly legs (no offense) and then Jake's manly legs in the next photo "Best shape of his life."
  2. I like the Dewees-Mills trade. I'm not terribly high on Dewees. He just doesn't hit enough for me. No power. And he's already 23. And his arm is really, really bad. He's not a guy that I'm ever going to be even slightly upset about losing. The upside isn't there. I don't know much about Mills, but I've read some nice things on him since the trade. Regardless, it isn't so much about adding him as it is about adding anyone. I think we did a nice job this off-season of adding some decent options at Iowa. Our pitching depth at the higher levels was completely barren. Iowa had nothing. And now we have a little something. It's not much, but it's something.
  3. I'm late to this. But I share what most everyone here and elsewhere have said. This is the dumbest idea. I don't understand why people care so much about the length of baseball games. I mean, sure, some games go on too long. And I'm all for cutting out stuff like Pedro Baez's existence. But, there's a point where I stop caring about the length of games, and it's somewhere well before this point. The unrelenting desire to cut games down by a minute-and-a-half or two... it just confounds me. Obviously nobody already sitting through 162 (or thereabouts) marathon games every summer cares. And the people that aren't watching games aren't going to be persuaded to give baseball a chance if the games are 3 minutes shorter. They are fighting a battle that doesn't exist.
  4. couldn't decide what was more weird...that or that she still hasn't seen the grand slam Not much time to go to Denny's when she is working double shifts at Waffle House and Chili's.
  5. We opened the gates of hell.
  6. I need more dongs in my life.
  7. I love the idea that tickets are an investment instead of tickets to a baseball game. I don't even mind that so much, with the caveat that you are right: they are just tickets to a game. But if someone sees them as an investment, then whatever. It's just... spare me the indignation when you admittedly made a ton of money on World Series tickets. In that case, you've certainly been made whole.
  8. My favorite part was evanstonian complaining about how much money he sunk into the team while they were bad and how he was entitled to now recoup off of that, when he probably made like $100 million on World Series tickets.
  9. I really like this. It's great that he has an option year left. I like the whole "former top prospect that is still pretty young" thing. And, mainly, there's the "him getting out of Coors" thing. I know his velocity is down and he sucked in the minors, too (mostly in Albuquerque, but still). But I would imagine pitching in Coors to be a daunting task. Who knows how that affected him mentally and physically? Let Bosio work his magic, and if it doesn't work, no biggie.
  10. It's equally likely that he is already hurt and is "scheduled to start throwing off flat ground again." Schrödinger's Cub.
  11. It's equally likely that he is already hurt and is "scheduled to start throwing off flat ground again."
  12. He is both stupid and crazy. And that combination makes him evil.
  13. I like it. It makes sense and it adds depth. I'm not really counting on anything, but it's a nice flyer. And on a one-year deal, I like him a lot more than Ross. I still want Monty starting, though. I want him to take a rotation spot and run with it. It would help us so much when looking forward.
  14. Friedman's gonna make the most efficient 88 win team you ever saw Forsythe is a solid player. And I don't really have a problem with this deal for them. I don't love it, but it makes sense for them. But it sure seems like Friedman puts in a lot of effort to barely improve his team -- like, he's used way too many assets (cash and prospects) to only be this good. It's fine that they are willing to pay a bunch of money to chase a half-win here and win there. But with practically unlimited funds, it seems like it would be easier to make substantial improvements. And they keep treading water.
  15. I love that he is able to adapt and improve himself. Last year it was with flattening out his swing. Now he is doing this in case teams start pitching him away more. These aren't superficial changes. He's actually looking for ways that he can improve himself, without taking away from things that he already does well. It is crazy to think that he could still get better.
  16. I swear I was thinking that exact thing before I scrolled down and read your post. I double taked and thought it had to be Miggy. I wasn't really paying attention and thought it was Miggy when I scrolled passed it. When I read the post, I scrolled back up and was sure it was Rizzo instead until the full picture loaded.
  17. That was really good. My favorite part was when he was talking about the first few years here, when we sucked. And they were spending game days up in the box following the minor league games, and how they had to "literally wipe the smiles off their faces when they went down into the clubhouse."
  18. Willson had such a big smile on his face the whole time today. I'm so happy for him. He is living the dream.
  19. It's silly, but I do enjoy being known as that. I enjoy everything that comes with winning the World Series.
  20. He should make a ten- or twenty-part series about the Cubs.
  21. The young guys are all so awesome. An extremely likable bunch. I'm most looking forward to watching Schwarber play a full season. He'll add another element of fun.
  22. One more thing that I forgot. I freaking love baseball because it is an awesome sport. I enjoy other sports but not like I do baseball, so I always miss baseball during the off-season. It can't come back soon enough.
  23. no more "same old cubs" when something even a little bad shows signs of happening. this is my favorite one. All of this. Plus we are really freaking good still. And we still have all of those awesome young players that were so fun to follow last year. And they are now World Series champions, and everyone else knows it, too. It's going to be amazing. And I can't wait.
  24. Same here. Plus a hoodie I didn't have yet. My favorite thing was the one present I didn't get. Nobody bought me Al Yellon's book.
