  1. what kind of contract is he expecting? i can't imagine he's likely to take one that is in line with a player in the role of "platoon/backup/DH".
  2. Hm...Fassel is a pretty interesting name I hadn't thought of.
  3. He's 6-foot-8. He has basically been used exclusively as Watford's backup. Against Illinois it probably would have been difficult to play Elston and Watford together, but that's not true most games (Illinois is pretty tall and skilled inside). I think "getting physical" was definitely the strategy. Oh, and Illinois was pretty stupid not to throw the ball down low even more than they did. If their strategy was to get physical (and I agree it was), then Elston again still seems like a wiser choice than Pritchard in that regard. I just don't get it. I'm trying to give Crean the benefit of the doubt here and assume that there is something going on in practice or whatever that's leading him to believe that Pritchard is a better choice than Elston. It's not like Pritchard has a big size advantage on Elston. They are both listed at 6-9 and Elston certainly seems to be able to use his size more effectively than Pritchard from what I've seen (even though Pritchard has about 25 lbs on him).
  4. IU fans don't really like Moore much at all. Though he did OK tonight. I hate Daniel Moore with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, but I do think many IU fans like him largely because of the things SSR said (though they wouldn't admit the last one, of course). It's probably part of why I dislike him so much. I argue with my dad about this all the time. The justification is always some garbage about how he gives them a spark followed by something stupid like: "What do you expect? He's a little white guy and a walk-on." Hmmmm...I guess I expect to not have to watch untalented (relatively) walk-ons who can do nothing but dribble around and take the occasional flop when I watch an Indiana basketball game. Call me crazy. I will acknowlege he actually wasn't terrible in this game though. Anyway, nice come back for Illinois. I didn't expect IU to win going in but it was pretty disappointing the way they folded in the second half. Why can't Elston get minutes all of the sudden? Pritchard is garbage at this point.
  5. It's hard to say. College OC is not necessarily a direct route to NFL OC. After a few years as an NFL offensive assistant and one year as a college OC, QB coach on a team desperate for somebody to develop their star QB might be the best option to be a OC within a year or two, and possibly head coach even sooner. Unless he's getting a lot of calls from other teams for OC, this might be his best option. Well, I suppose he could see it as an inroad to a future OC job with the Bears if Lovie gets removed and Martz becomes the Head Coach or something.
  6. It may be ideal, but I don't see how it's going to happen. Bates has already done the QB coach thing. I'm sure he was hoping parlay the college OC job into a NFL OC job. I'm not at all familiar with what his options were last year when he was let go from Denver, so maybe it is something he still wants to do, I guess. Just doesn't seem to make sense to me.
  7. Does Silva count? He's a veteran. I assume he'll end up in the bullpen at some point once Lilly is back (if not sooner). To answer the question, no.
  8. damnit (not that it really matters)
  9. If they put up another dud of a season offensively then the Cutler-hate should ratchet up quite nicely and we can go ahead and burn that bridge. Good time.
  10. Getting angry about the questions? WTF does he expect a damn parade? F-off, Lovie. You're teams have sucked the last few years. Stand up there and face the music and be thankful you are still coaching.
  11. They're going to hire people who agree with Lovie and who don't have much clout (because they won't worry about being lame ducks). It's not going to be pretty. Yeah, that's what i'm getting from this too. But I'm clinging to a tiny scrap of hope that this is all just talk and the actions will end up reflecting something different. Like I said, I don't have my hopes up.
  12. i'm trying not to get too upset until i see who they actually bring in, but i don't have my hopes up based on what they are saying today.
  13. hahaha...good point
  14. the wanting to stay consistant garbage is just that, garbage. they've had the same GM, head coach, offensive coordinator and essentially defensive coordinator (Lovie) the last several years. it's not like they are the raiders/browns/etc. *note, i'm not listening to the presser. this is just based on what i'm getting from your posts.
  15. Kramer has never committed a foul in his life, just ask him.
  16. Ugh, I was at that game in Detroit. Horrible. Needless to say, I will also forever remember that embarrassment. As for this game, I can't bring myself to hope for a loss and a nail in the Lovie/Turner coffin against Detroit. I just have too many friends that are Lions fans. Besides, I think even the Bears should handle Culpepper or Stanton.
  17. Yes. Without the blocked EP or Peterson's fumble in OT, we're not having this conversation and it's another big choke job by the Bears.
  18. Doesn't matter much, but Phil Rogers was on MLBTV last night claiming he expects the Cubs to go after Ellsbury and mentioning that the Cubs brass is high on him. He said something along the lines of (paraphrasing), "They think they have the prospects to get it done." Not sure I want to know what that means. He also mentioned Melky again as an option despite his trade to Atlanta. No thanks to that.
  19. wtf... i flipped over late in the game (was watching the bears) and just figured he was out because they were up big. son of a...
  20. It also shouldn't matter what Bradley thinks/says either, but for some reason it did.
  21. The most disappointing part was seeing them get outhustled in the first half. It was like we came out ready to sleep walk to a win and Loyola was clearly fired up and ready to go. I mean they did shoot lights out in the first half but we needed to at least match their intensity. The comeback in the 2nd half was awesome but to see them fall short on the missed free throws........frustrating. And oh boy remind me to just stay off IU basketball message boards. What a riot. BRING BACK ALFORD, FIRE CREAN, OMG KNIGHT WOULD NOT HAVE LOST THAT GAME. :banghead: The missed free throws are getting old and it will continue to cost them close games.
  22. I still don't know what Theriot said about Bradley.
  23. I wouldn't say he's really a "weakness" either (particularly compared with other potential in-house options), but I'd say his production is nearly replaceable with the pieces they have once defense is factored in. It's not about not liking him so much as trying to see if you can capitalize on his (perceived or real) current value to other teams. He's not likely to be an important piece to the puzzle for this team so it might make sense to see what you can get for him while he's still relatively cheap.
  24. One step forward, two steps back for IU. Not terribly surprising, but still disappointing. Eh...
