  1. We almost certainly will be. The insane meatball side of me is wondering at what point the 2011 Braves fans started to freak out. I sometimes think about the 2014 Brewers who started out super hot and had a big lead and then stopped winning in July until the Cardinals eventually passed them. The good news is that the Cubs are better than that Brewers team. I mean, I think at least.
  2. treading water against a team way worse than us while we play 2 of the worst teams in baseball at home. this is very underwhelming good news. I know. I'm reaching so bad right now for anything.
  3. So the good news is that after tonight we will hold the same 8-game lead in the loss column as we did when the week started. I just really thought they'd do better than 1-3 against the Reds and Braves at home. And, yes, I'm counting this as a loss because I'm tired and a bit sad.
  4. This sets up shitty. Hammel bunts and Javy K seems Iike a legit possibility.
  5. At least they got a hit and now Harrell is averaging more than 10 pitches an inning. Next inning is when we strike.
  6. I think they've only won like four games since he's been up so probably not great. (I'm kidding about the four. I think).
  7. So when everybody wanted him this offseason had nobody really watched him much or is he a way different-looking hitter than 2015?
  8. My, how times have changed. Wonder if the Cubs will win their 60th before their 40th loss. :( At the time of that posting they were 24 games above .500. Now they are 20. So it isn't really that much different but it does feel that way.
  9. I'm reading that like he's being serious and not sarcastic. Given his relentless negativity, I stand by my interpretation. I'm willing to believe you then. No offense to him.
  10. Seems All-Star worthy to me How old were you when you swore your oath against having fun? I'm reading that like he's being serious and not sarcastic.
  11. Pretty sure Hammel is pitching tomorrow Arrieta, Lester, Hendricks going against Pittsburgh. Unless they switched it today, it's Lackey and not Hendricks. Also, the Cubs suck so bad right now but I still believe. If they don't make the playoffs then I will stop believing for this year and just say they sucked.
  12. well dude had thrown a ton of pitches so it's not really that weird Did not know that. I take back the weirdness of it then.
  13. Did the Reds just make a pitching change with two outs and a pitcher batting? That seems weird.
  14. Could Almora have caught that? I couldn't tell.
  15. Duke, you are good with numbers. I am not. Is an eight-game lead on July 3, playoff percentage-wise, a really sizeable lead or do the Cubs sort of have to start playing better relatively quickly?
  16. I don't see that much difference between Montero and Peralta.
  17. I wonder how it gets decided who gets the rest of the day off? I'd have thought the franchise player who has missed time with a bad back twice this season would be the first choice. Or at least the third after the two old guys.
  18. What's Soler gonna do, give everyone killer back rubs so they relax and start kicking ass again? Yeah, I don't know if I totally buy the injury excuse. The SP's and Bryzzo have been healthy. It sucks not having Schwarber, but I don't think people really include him when they reference injuries since he only played 3 games. Contreras, Javy, and probably Almora are better than Soler. So that basically just leaves Fowler. It can be little things, too. Being able to start a Lastella rather than some dude up from the minors. Being able to pinch hit a guy like Lastella rather than somebody up from the minors. I mean, we have a lot of young guys in the lineup all learning at the same time. That has to lead to some uneven play.
  19. I'm frustrated. But not worried. I'll only get worried if Fowler, Lastella and Soler are all back and we are still playing like this. Right now the bottom of our lineup is filled with a talented Triple A lineup. What's Soler gonna do, give everyone killer back rubs so they relax and start kicking ass again? You just answered your own question.
