  1. I would hope this is a lesson for Theo and he doesn’t mention Rizzo’s contract at the Bryce Harper press conference.
  2. he did. so? So why didn't people have a problem with it then like they do now?
  3. Also, although I could be wrong, I'm pretty sure Theo talked about Q's great contract when we traded for him, too.
  4. Look, I know a lot of you think being a baseball robot is the thing that all the cool kids do, but it's more than a little odd to be talking about how you could afford the guy you just signed because the guy you traded for the year before is on a VERY team-friendly deal. Like, everyone knows it's true and he's right, but it just seems like one of those things where you don't talk it up to the press. What's the point? I'm surprised people that are a bit upset about the Q thing aren't mentioning Theo saying essentially that Yu's World Series meltdown gave the Cubs an opportunity to be a contender for Yu because they would be able to get him at a better price.
  5. Finally, somebody said it.
  6. Theo never wanted Arrieta. He is just trying to drive the price up on the Brewers. Theo is 10 steps ahead of every GM.
  7. I trust Theo so by the time to research that he was tipping and it’s fixable. I too am gonna miss Jake, Yu is better and I take him over Jake ever time but hope Jake goes to a non-Brewer team like the Twins or Angels or whatever so I don’t need to root against him. If Yu wasn’t tipping then we should somehow be worried about our offense, because he dominated it.
  8. I just......what did people think he was signing for, $15 per??? I thought he was getting $25 to $28 when the offseason started.
  9. That’s the best part. There are some who are saying six years is too long, which I agree with. Oh, except when you realize he got the total money he was supposed to get for five.
  10. I can believe there are opt outs. I mean, we got the dude for much less than Lester and that was three years ago. (Lester was a bit younger but still).
  11. I can’t believe he came at only $21 AAV.
  12. David and everybody were right. Great job. And to see it at $150 and then at the same time see $126 made it so much better.
  13. Theo basically said they were done with pen after Duensing, so I don't think they're going to sign anymore guaranteed big-league-contract guys. I think it's NRI or nothing. Not sure who's left or who would be willing to sign NRI deals at this point. But yeah, if Romo or other decent guy or two was willing, I'd be pretty interested. The last spot is basically between Grimm, Butler, and Maples. Maples has probably the most electric stuff of those three, but he's got options. So I think he'd need to dramatically out-impress the other two to win that job. Anything even remotely comparable, may as well save him at Iowa for options yo-yo. AzPhil had a nice article this week detailing how Grimm's arb deal is NOT guaranteed, so it's not like the Cubs would be out $2.2 if they chose Romo of Butler and cut Grimm. Phil also suggested there was pretty good chance Cubs could get Grimm to Iowa (If nobody else claimed him for their 25, and if he didn't immediately declare FA.) So, if you had Butler and Romo and/or somebody else NRI, it really could be a true open competition. I admit I'd like to see another name or two, whether Romo or somebody else, added to that competition if possible. Romo signed a one-year deal with Tampa this week.
  14. Not faking. Just not nearly interested enough to give Yu market value. I think they got more involved when it looked like they could get him a lot cheaper than what the market suggested, but it's going to be on their terms. If they really wanted him that bad, they would have him by now and wouldn't competing against the Twins and Brewers for him. I've thought all along we are still getting Cobb when somebody else finally gives Yu a contract more in line with expectations. ETA: Plus, they are signing Bryce Harper next year and I still think they are going to be somewhat responsible with the other contracts they give out during this time. they just know they have leverage if their only real competition are those teams right now and are using it the only "somewhat responsible" that i'd expect guns blazing theo epstein to be is being cognizant of the tax implications...i don't see any reason they wouldn't (essentially) max out what they can spend with regard to the tax I like it. Let's get it done.
  15. why would you think, with the amount of money the cubs have to spend and the one obvious area for improvement, that they would merely be faking interest in the best available solution to fill that spot? Not faking. Just not nearly interested enough to give Yu market value. I think they got more involved when it looked like they could get him a lot cheaper than what the market suggested, but it's going to be on their terms. If they really wanted him that bad, they would have him by now and wouldn't competing against the Twins and Brewers for him. 16. Great points by David and Bertz. I was right, though, as I did say my thoughts might be stupid.
  17. They are the C-list movie star trying to be relevant again by picking a public fight with the A-lister. It's kind of annoying that we are acknowledging them at all, although it was pretty entertaining.
  18. Sorry for bumping without an update. If the Brewers have the best offer out to Yu, doesn't that mean our offer is one in which the Cubs don't at all plan to get him but wanted to make sure they did their due diligence? I can't imagine the Brewers offer is THAT high, and if we are even lower, I can't see the Cubs raising their offer by a single year or tens of millions just to get it done. Although maybe these thoughts are stupid of me, too.
  19. but i'm giving him the attention he wants, so really the joke's on me He clearly doesn’t follow Kato.
  20. Haha. True that. Although I promised I would never publicly go there ever again, and I won’t. In the new economy, lurking is not “going there.” Just don’t post. Yu are right.
  21. Well, that’s not great. Yeah I would feel really bad for Archer. Finally gets traded and it's to another horsefeathers team. Even worse for him, he will now get beat down by the Cubs a lot more.
  22. Hey, I appreciate you guys relaying the info. I refuse to go on their message board due to my irrational hatred. your hatred of the brewers is not irrational, your fear is Haha. True that. Although I promised I would never publicly go there ever again, and I won’t.
